George had - hate to mention him in the past tense - one of the best vocals of anyone who ever sang a note. Amen. I saw him 11 times live and he was always better than the records he made, and that is in itself amazing. @NailHeavenAshford

Rock n roll hall of fame is not just for rock singers. They represent a diverse group of artists. Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists' contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. Maybe go into their website and learn about them. George covered many styles of music. He sang blue eyed soul and won some prestigious awards which got other singers backs up because he wasn’t black, he sang love songs, he sang disco, he did sing some rock, he did plenty of covers from Stevie Wonder, Seal, The Beatles to Queen, Adamski and The Police. He wrote a song that he performed with Paul McCartney. He was so incredibly diverse. There are many artists that have stated he influenced them. George Michael was his own genre. That’s why he got his nomination and that’s why he deserves it. These days they recognise DJ’s, musicians, record label executives, songwriters, record producers, Dolly Parton was nominated and didn’t think she deserved it because she wasn’t rock and roll. Although Parton had asked to be removed from the ballot because she did not think of herself as a rock artist, the Hall responded that "From its inception, rock and roll has had deep roots in rhythm & blues and country music. It is not defined by any one genre, rather a sound that moves youth culture. Dolly Parton's music impacted a generation of young fans and influenced countless artists that followed. Her nomination to be considered for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists who have been considered." So maybe learn a little about the Hall of Fame and don’t say someone who worked so hard and had such amazing talent shouldn’t be considered for induction. Quite frankly it should have happened before he died.

There has never been a voice that has resonated with my soul the way that George Michael's voice does. It's like it reaches directly into my heart and covers me with goosebumps. The clarity of his voice and the way in which I can hear every lyric expressed is impressive in itself. Then, we have the passion in which he performs that invites the audience in to each performance. I could go on and on about the genius of this artist, yet I gather that many will feel the same as what I do as well. @@krisushi1You probably know this but George always said He always wanted to be famous, but It was the celebrity that he just couldn't handle. In my opinion that is what made him human! He just wanted to live his life w/o everyone thinking they own him. 🕯😇🎶🎶🎶💖
@krisushi1
@krisushi1 Жыл бұрын
@@bk4062 Yes, I have heard George state many times that he had wished to be famous but more so for his songwriting talent. He also said that performing live and touring was the greatest ego stroker but he never required this. He said that if he could create an album and stay home whilst watching it rise in the charts without having to promote would be a dream come true. He hated the celebrity aspect of the industry. I like the line he wrote in 'Star People' where he sings - "I don't count myself among you". Again, he stated that anything that you wished to know about him would always be written in his lyrics. It's how I feel that I've come to understand him better. As one who despises celebrity myself, as I believe we are all equal and having a talent that thrusts one into the limelight does not make them a better person than you or I, I cannot see George living this type of life. It can be fun occasionally, but not full-time. All he wished for is to build upon his talent privately, perform occasionally as he was a natural performer and live in peace. I still can't understand why the media kept harassing him to such a ridiculous extent, despite admitting to being gay. Elton John was never given this much attention and it was a more difficult time for him. As much as I dearly miss George, I can't say that I would rather him still being here under the constant pressure he endured. I believe that he is finally at peace, yet we are left with those wonderful gifts he gifted us to continue on his memory.💖

George Michael was one of the most underrated singers, musicians and songwriters in history - despite being a global star. He was so incredibly talented and most people don't realise how he wrote all his own songs and music and essentially played all the instruments. He is not on a par with other global pop stars who have teams of writers and musicians creating work for them and all sorts of digital equipment to make their voice sound good. He was also a wonderful master of the stage. Anyway. George, it turned out was a friend of a friend i used to go on tour with back around this time DJing between bands. Had no idea. When he died he posted a tribute. George recorded some stuff at his studio too. He'd call him up, "Hey man its George the Greek!" I love how he tried hard to keep his feet on the ground and not service the ego. Kept quiet about his charity work rather than seek publicity. I loved that he smoked pot, though drugs were maybe not his friend at times. And I hated that the media felt they had to hound him to somehow keep us happy. Bastards. Nice one Fil.

I had the pleasure of growing up in the 80s and George Michael has always been my absolute favorite. His voice always sounded like perfection and I believe you’ve proved it with your analysis of this performance. He did a cover of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” that literally brings tears.

What an amazing analysis of George's incredible vocal genius. Everything you say is so accurate and I love the way you smile and show pleasure at his singing. I love your description of the air that he breathes into a note. He managed to breathe pathos, beauty and depth of emotion into every single lyric. He felt the words he sang. He is so missed. His music was the background to my youth. RIP George.

This is one of my favourite TV appearances of George on Parki, it's so beautiful just a shame he did so few live performances in the 90's. I saw him so many times live just adored him & still can't believe he's no longer with us.

Thank you so much for this one...George Michael giving a transcendent performance of (IMO) his best song. Usually when I tell someone that this is my favourite GM song, they don't get it. It's probably one of his shortest songs, and so deceptively simple sounding (because he's got the voice that makes it sound effortless) that they can't recognize it for the perfect little gem of a song that it is. 💎💎 I was a fan since way back in the Wham days, and hearing one of his songs always makes me feel meloncholy...we lost him far too soon, and in such a heartbreaking way. He made music that just made people happy...I wish he could have found that happiness for himself. 💔

George Michael was very under-appreciated while he was alive. He was a musical genius. The world lost when he died. We are lucky to have so much media on his performances to remember and feel it over and over again. Gone 2 soon. :(

Color commentator here ☺️. Very nice, Fil, actually excellent analysis! How can George Michael know all this without taking any music lessons? Innate? Great ear I guess. He hit the exact note at the same sound every single time and I guess that's what set him apart and made him so awesome. Anyway, CARELESS WHISPER, he wasn't so fond of apparently. He was a little chubby, had big frizzy hair and was a nerd. I guess his girlfriend didn't think he was attractive, so he cheated on her. She never knew the reason until someone told her years later. He also wore a hat in the video because his hair would blow up on the humidity. He paid out of pocket, a boat load of money for a hair stylist to style his hair every few minutes to keep it under control. It was HUMONGOUS AND REALLY BIG LIKE NOTHING I'VE EVER SEEN BEFORE. I WAS AMAZED AT A PICTURE OF HIM WITH THIS GIGANTIC HAIR. I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE HIM!! Plus, he was a profectionst. He interviewed 10 saxophonists for the song and chose the last one. I heard the last and another and they sounded VERY SIMILAR. YOU REALLY COULDN'T TELL A DIFFERENCE. George could tell a big difference. I also heard straight from his mouth in an interview that when he was 17 his mother shared an extremely painful story with him. On the day he was born. Within 24 hours of his birth, his uncle, from his mother's side, committed suicide. Apparently his uncle and he looked exactly alike and was gay. Can you imagine the turmoil his mother had gone through all those years? No wonder they were so close and her death devastated him. He endured so much pain, but what a musical genius. He and Andrew remained life long friends and Andrew said he'd be his friend when George came to his school. Apparently Andrew and his brother were trouble makers. 🙄. Can't believe it now.
