Yeah, the Nanowebs BLOW DOG! They just fall apart. Not worth buying. It's best to just get them on eBay via someone who will ship internationally. I honestly know that Gore Industries (Elixir) are going to end up hanging themselves soon. They are only putting the Nanowebs in the stores and the Polywebs have been discontinued in so many areas, especially the bass strings. All Polywebs are long gone. I have a few cases of them, so I have great strings. lol I love the BALLSACK thing. lol

You are definitely 100% right about the Polywebs, Iv been using them also for years and years now!! Hardly ever changed them and they still sound fucking great dude!! Im curious Scott to know if you have tried any other coated strings at all my friend??? Anything else that competes with the Elixers??? Great video again Mr Groovy!!! Much thanks! Ben Weightman

So, what would your opinions be on the various offerings from Thomastik Infield (Vienna) - e.g hex cores, 'softer' steels silk inner wraps, flat and semi-flat windings. I've found their Blues Sliders exceptionally long lasting, rich (not bright), Would also like to see a video on pros and cons of string gauge(s) for electrics.

Have you tried the D'Addario EXP strings? Given that the company who manufactures the same strings but use a different coating, i think they last a pretty decent amount of time on my acoustic.Still sort of pricey though.

Hi Scott, I have followed your channel for years now. My question is that I have a CF Martin D41 acoustic. My problem is that I have tried the polyweb acoustic and electric strings and D'addario strings for acoustic and I get a very dull sound out of my Martin no matter what I use and this Martin I have had since 1995. So it's got a lot of age on it but for some reason this guitar just doesn't ring the way some Martins do. I must say though that for electric guitar, you are right on about the nice brightness of these electric strings. Trouble is yiu can't find these polyweb strings anymore and the nanoweb and some of the other brand names are good but very expensive especially for myself. I live in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 so the exchange on the U.S. dollar is like almost 30 cents on the dollar because the Canadian dollar isn't worth a shite. So say if these strings cost $13.00 USD then that's 30 cents tacked onto every dollar plus the outrageous cost of shipping in U.S. dollars. What a shame you can't get them anymore and the price now is through the roof. Thanks mate. Cheers

You're suggesting to take the "string scrape" out of Rock 'n Roll?! Blasphemy!! LOL
@SunAndMirror10 жыл бұрын
Very useful information. At around 28 minutes you say the composition of the guitar does not change the sound, and pickups only care about magnetic waves. I think the rest of the guitar, not just the strings, will affect the final tone via resonance which has a subtle effect on string vibration. Since the pickups are sensing string vibration, if the vibration of the strings respond harmonically due to body resonance, why do you think the sound wouldn't change?
@groovydjs10 жыл бұрын
This is easy to prove my friend. Enjoy: Does wood affect the sound or tone of an electric guitar? the basic physics behind the answer.
@SunAndMirror10 жыл бұрын
Interesting, so a guitar made of plywood, with equivalent shape and remaining components, would sound the same as any top-tier guitar?
@VintageSG10 жыл бұрын
groovydjs I don't mind the tonewood lot. The tonewood guitars seem well constructed and very pretty. Then you get to the Brian May blockboard guitar, or the Danelectro hardboard specials. I've had comments about the amazing sound of my guitars. One of which is a Danelectro, the other, a mahogany SG. Screw tonewoods for me, give me something that sings like a rock'n'roller, not a freakin' diva and for me, low output pickups, controls on 10, grin on face gives the best sound.

Hey Scott, are you familiar with Brian May’s guitar that he built and played in queen, that guitar had a roller bridge, straight headstock, and straight string pull, I’ve heard that his has excellent tuning stability, and I’ve played replica models from his guitar company that I thought were pretty good guitars.

great vid long but informative also what you were telling us about the older ibenez guitars that are made in japan they are kind of like Japanese cars? so most of time not super expensive and whenever you need to change a part (which in most cases is rare) it will be expensive but it will last and you can taking care of them or not you will still get probably not have to many problems (i am a car nut and my father only has ever bought japenese cars ever since h started driving in the 80s) but i am guessing that ibanez didnt make many lefties in those days correct

What is your opinion of Martin SP Lifespan? I have the same thing has you with the sweaty fingers and the strings only last me about a 3 weeks and then start to rust. Also the Elixir Strings are still selling the polyweb.
@jrodecpf10 жыл бұрын
I have a question about a video you posted on different woods not affecting sound electrically. You yourself said that ACOUSTICALLY the different types of wood on electric guitars DO affect the sound produced. Now it is to my understanding that the your ear and a guitar pickup function in essentially the same manner. If two different electric guitars produce two different sounds acoustically, then that means the strings are vibrating a different frequencies which will in turn produce different sounds. Our ears, like pickups, collect the different vibrations and then send ELECTRIC signals to the brain which will in turn produce the sound intended. A pickup does exactly the same thing so if a guitar produces a certain sound according to the type of wood on a guitar then the strings are in fact vibrating in a certain frequency. By your logic, the pickups then must also be picking up different frequencies on different guitars. What's your say on this?
@groovydjs10 жыл бұрын
See, you are just making stuff up. The strings won't be vibrating at different frequencies. A low A string is giving off 110hz NO MATTER WHAT. So, NOTHING IN THE WORLD will change that. There you go, thanks for playing.
@jrodecpf10 жыл бұрын
So your saying our ears can pick up different sounds acoustically and guitar pickups cannot correct?
@groovydjs10 жыл бұрын
jrodecpf Yep, that is part of the way it works. The pickups only send a signal containing the information that were generated by transverse waves. Concussion waves (probably everything you are thinking about....the waves that make acoustic sounds that your ears can actually hear) are not sent to the amplifier. So, if you were to fart into a properly potted pickup, it will not be amplified. Sounds replicated via ferrous materials are. It starts and stops right there. Cheers.
@JoeBaermann4 ай бұрын
@@jrodecpfIt can pickup a difference in sustain, but that is more based on how strong the wood is and not which type of wood. Attach a string to a steel construction H-bar and you will have all the sustain a string can have. There are some harmonic resonances, but the idiots who love them don’t use in-ears or crank their amps up to where they can’t hear the acoustics of the guitar itself, speaker missplacement is also a common failure, sometimes one might think people have ears on their arse. 😂

"If bone is so great for your nut then why do you want your nut to sound different than your frets? Good question. I had already considered that point about the nut and frets, but somehow the saddle question, -- although I had considered different kinds of saddles, hadn't really thought about it (the material used) in terms of how it matched the nut or the frets, but just how it differed in general. Something interesting to experiment with, though. I wish more people would perform those kinds of scientifically conducted experiments in order to strike away any false myths and assumptions, with demonstrable recorded results, and post them.

good common sense advice thank you ! .. i learned a lot .. and yeah i feel stupid a little and i 100% agree polywebs rule ... had a set on an acoustic for 6 years now still sound like new !! i use 99% ethanol to dip my bass strings in for 20 mins off the bass coiled ...get in there with a toothbrush ..gets me around 3 cleans before they go. i will now try just soaking them in it on the bass and bouncing them ... should save me a lot of hassle ... thx dude ... liked , subscribed , lit candle , sacrificed chicken also sooo true about built in obsolescence ... not a conspiracy ... question is how do we convince elixir ?

***** Nope, I've done many pro tours and no need to change them. That would be like buying a new guitar for each show. You only replace things that need to be replaced.
