Sublime has been my favorite band for as long as I have memories. I remember seeing Jakob as a newborn lying on the bed while Bradley played guitar to him on the artwork for one of their albums. Bradley died when I was 5, so I have long accepted the fact that I would never get to see my favorite band live. That is until last night. I saw Sublime playing in the AZ Diamondbacks stadium and I was blown away at how much Jakob is exactly his dad. The mannerisms, the voice, even the changes from how the vocals are on the album to how he does it live.. it’s not just a cover or a cheap copy. It’s exactly how Bradley did it in live performances but organically. I can’t even explain the emotions I felt experiencing something that I thought was impossible. I was literally tearing up. I am so happy for Jakob, Bud and Eric. I can’t imagine how proud those two are to see the spirit of their best friend reincarnated. Jakob several times in between songs let out the most sincere “this is so cool” It was the greatest moment I’ve ever experienced. They managed to full an entire 70k capacity stadium with sound and still managed to sound like they were playing in a small bar in Long Beach. Jakob is experiencing what his dad always wanted but never got to. It’s such a beautiful thing.

people talking about rome apparently dont realize that Sublime was in Brad's estate. Bud and Eric couldnt use the name carrying on without him. Bud quit after the first album. Jakes not perfect, but neither was Bradley live. Even when he wasnt in active addiction he'd still be really loose on stage, and have fun with it. As a long time fan of the band; I love seeing him up there playing his Dad's guitar, and going for it. Sublime is, NOWELL, Bud, and Eric. I'm very surprised though that Miguel isnt playing lead guitar. He plays in Long Beach Dub All Stars, and as the 4th member of sublime, recorded Brads solos when he wasnt feeling well, and sang on Scarlett.

They're all new again, getting back into this. Jakob is extremely talented, he slips a bit on guitar, but he'll get it rock solid, and it'll sound incredible. I Its easy to either sing, or play a song on guitar alone. But it's a real challenge tying it all together singing and playing guitar at the same time. It's a muscle memory thing, and memory thing. Think of it like this. Your not only having to remember and recall allllll of the lyrics, but you also have to remember what frets your fingers are supposed to be on. It can be 3 simple notes on guitar that's easy to play alone, but you also don't want to sing a wrong word while trying to find the guitar note at the same time. When I'm learning a song, I always end up hitting the right note with my voice, but the wrong note on guitar a few times. Then im like. How did I mess that up? Haha. For me, I focus too much on the difficult parts, then I mess up the easiest parts that I was super confident at. More practice live with the band is the best way to iron out those little kinks. And making sure your key word is at the same time as the right note on that part of the riff. Sometimes lyrics have a few words before the down beat, and sometimes the guitar had a few notes before the down beat. Getting those 2 things lined up on the down beat makes all the difference!

Huge sublime fan here, I think Bradley was one of the most soulful singers ever, sure he got sloppy when he played live, but his voice was just special. Jakob has a voice really similar to his dad’s. This was their first big gig (they played an HR tribute show back in December). So imagine the pressure. If you listen to the second weekend at Coachella, you’ll hear a big improvement in his voice (and he let Trey take the Santeria solo that time haha). Then listen to their recent show at Brightside festival in Orlando, and they sound even better. So it seems he’s taking constructive criticism and applying it to the shows. I think they’ll keep getting better and better with time, and you can’t go wrong with Bud and Eric as your rhythm section.

Bradley was a beautiful mess on stage, but his genius mixed wjth charisma was the magic. Jakob was nervous naturally in front of that huge Coachella audience. He is not a great guitar player, obviously but like the original Sublime, its all about vibe and the rhythm section of Bud and Eric allowing the vox to soar... Jakob relinquished the lead guitar parts to the 2nd guitarist on Weekend 2 of Coachella, which was a FAR better performance from the whole band, especially Jakob.
