Your right, nothing available to show how to play this.tried to figure out by ear, an just couldn't get this.always wondered how to play this since 1975 when it came out.didnt play guitar in 75,but always wondered how to play it.now gotta figure solo out.i know its a cool delay doubled type part. Sounds great. Slide the whole thing down one fret.This eliminates the bad sounding high E string. Also makes the song easier to sing. Or capo first fret if you want to stay in key with the recording.

Wow, thanks so much for this info. I've been looking for how to play this for years. I danced to this song so many times back in the 70's gonna ask the guys to add it to my band Cyrus K Band dottt commm. I'm gonna email you for the pdf... I don't know if you read where Elton John reportedly praised Paul Carrack's voice saying he could sing the Phone Book and it would sound great. Someone posted they heard him play it last week at an Eric Clapton concert in the SW !!!

That's an F up there on the 7th fret with its root on the 5th string/7th fret. It's not an Fmin if you're barring the 9th with your ring finger. LOL. I've gotten guitar-brain fart too. Great lesson as usual!
