Guitar Unboxing and Review | BEST Metal Guitar Purchase in YEARS!!!!

Guitar unboxing and review/first impressions of possibly the best metal guitar that I've purchased, played, and heard in years!!! The Washburn Solar V Ola Englund Signature. I was considering checking one of these out years ago, but it just didn't happen. After browsing google over and over for many hours of the night, I came across this bad boy. The seller had the Seymour Duncan Mick Thomson Blackouts in it, and right then and there I had the chance to check both the pickups out and the guitar itself. BEST guitar purchase that I've made in many years because this thing is a metal player's dream! Here are the specs on this monster of a guitar:

I will be doing another video on this guitar once it is set up to my tuning and intonation. I have so many great things to say about this guitar, and after owning it for 5 hours, 4.5 of those hours were spent playing it because I just could not put it down!!! I've owned a TON of guitars throughout the years and this was by far one of the best purchases that I've made on an instrument, especially at this price point! It touches on the main qualities of owning a guitar: playability, feel, build quality, and the biggest of all...SOUND. Besides the minor little issue with whatever is going on with the selector switch, this axe has done more than enough to win me over and then some!!! I can almost guarantee you that it's cutting out because of the switch. Those switches have a pretty high fail rate. Could be as easy as opening it up and gently bending the connection on the switch so that it makes full contact when it's switched to either side. If that doesn't work, just buy a new switch. They're like $6.

That guitar IS sick! It SPANKS a Gibson! Just sprung for a custom Equinox custom made. Very much like yours. My deal is with bigger hands. So I got it made with a wider neck. And will be sportin' 11-60 strings. What's worse, I'm a lefty, too. Choices for me, with my likes and/or specs. is SEVERELY restricted! you can't understand because you obviously haven't been playing for very long. I have a 2 strats, I have minor isssues with fret 22 because I have relatively smallish hands. I have no problems with my SGs or my Ibanez RGs, my Ibanez Atrist Active is amazing all the way up to fret 24. My Les paul is a joy to play all over the fretboard, one would think that it would be different but no,,, I can get by happily with the fret 22 issue, it's called "adapting to your situatiion". Maybe you should try it out some day!

I had a 1986 Washburn AF-40 V that I bought in ‘87. 24 frets, Washburn Wonderbar tremolo, nice beefy thick neck, stayed in tune, beautiful finish. What did I do? Like an idiot, I sold it. I can’t get it back but noticed the Parallaxe guitars are pretty close. The tuners are the same, the nut looks the same. I might get one to make up for my stupidity. Enjoy the guitar! Kevin, on the switch not having enough power when you switch to the neck pickup. Take some electrical contact cleaner, and spray some down in the switch in each position, then toggle it back and forth a few times and that should take care of your prob. As long as the switch isn't bad or a loose connection isn't present. Sometimes dust can get down on there and the switch won't work properly. If that don't work and all wiring looks good. Replace the 9 volt battery. Active pickups will lose power when battery is about to die. Hope you can sort it out and congrats on the killer axe!

My mom used to have a Washburn. She got it from an old pawn shop in Dunlap, Tn. It was pretty and sounded great. I miss listening to her play on it. She had to sell it years ago. Around 1999 I think. She also had a few Strats over the years, a Gibson, and her baby was a Takamine acoustic/electric 12 string.

You *never* fix battle scars like that. It's what gives the guitar it's uniqueness and character. Add your own (from playing, not relicing) and when you're done with it, pass it on to the next metal monger. That is how it's done. \m/ O_o \m/

That little bow is part of a good setup. It is called relief. When you pluck. slap pick or bite your string it rolls around the long axis of the string. If you look at it from the side under a strobe light, it looks like a magnifying lens seen from the side. A point at the string saddle and at the nut or the fret you are holding. At the center between the 2 ends the string looks like the thickest part of the lens. Without the "little bow the string will hit the frets. and you will either have to raise the action or play very very softly. The standard Tune-O-matic bridge set up also requires you to cut the string saddle slots to provide the correct string height for each string. There are varieties that let you turn screws in the saddle to set the string height. The mfg of the guitar should be able to tell all of the specs for your model and how to make these adjustments. Check out Dave's World of Fun Stuff here on KZbin. Learn everything there is to know about setting up ANY type of guitar.

The problem could just be a wire dangling from solder, or a dry solder. If you can't see it, maybe a multimeter might help. Then just clean off the old shite and redo it. The pickup wires would be the first thing to check, not being stock parts, and all. Good vid dude. Made me wanna jam. And that guitar! it's awesome!

Hey man, I really enjoyed your video on this guitar. I have the lefty 7-string version of this model and I love absolutely everything about it. The Duncan Solar pickups really are a notch above a lot of the other pickups I have tried. I've tried Blackouts but I've never tried the Mick Thomson signature set before, they sounded good too, perhaps a bit more "aggressive." Also something of note, my 7-string Washburn Solar V still has a 25.5" scale length, as where I believe all of the new Solar branded 7-string models have adopted the 26.5" scale length. I have come to really prefer 25.5" over the 26.5" on 7-string guitars. The rear jack placement on these V models is a nice innovation too I must say. These are great finds if you are able to track them down. Again, cool video!

The neck pickup could be cutting out due to low battery at the back side of the guitar (you might have to unscrew the plate at the back to find the battery if a battery does actually exist on a Washburn)
