@@RobertKeeleyTVHey Robert, I've been deep diving Rotary pedals for a couple months now and was super stoked to see you dropped a new one after the "I Get Around" project. When I went on your webpage and saw Trey was using Rotary and Zoma I was sold on both, but they are currently sold out (Rotary). Hope you restock soon I'm snagging them ASAP to complete a new board after a foray into the digital realm for a year!

Mr Palmisano!! I love watching your reactions to the phish from VT. I’ve been seeing this band for over 20 years now, (which is not very long compared to some fans hahaha), and it just makes me so very happy to watch your different expressions as the soundtrack to my life washes over you, in a way it has over me countless times over most of my life. Thanks for doing this one. I appreciate the love you give to Jon fishman. If you’re unfamiliar with their early years, you may be fascinated to listen to some interviews or read some books that cover the listening exercises they used to practice learning and knowing one another. What we are hearing every night when they take the stage are four men coming together as 1, four men that have put so much blood, sweat, tears, joy, pain…all of it, into their craft together for over forty years. You are hearing their lives. And they take the stage and invite us in every night. And it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever been a part of. Thanks brother. Hope to see you at a show.

Hey Michael, it’s Conner. I sent the first recommend you took for Phish years ago (Free). Super happy you made another video and enjoyed the NYE shows. They sounded great this run. Also amazing to hear you really start to understand the commitment / patience level required of the astute listener and how that “texture of sound” develops and evolves together through collective listening. It’s truly wizardry. Cheers Michael!

For those that may not know, Harry Hood was the mascot of the Hood Dairy company. Hence the line 'Where do you go when the lights go out' referencing the refrigerator light. Also 'You can feel good, good about Hood' was their catchphrase back in the day. Great reaction!

Was there too brother. So much fun. Phish on NYE beats anything. Ive had "Ahhhhh, ah ah THUNDER" stuck in my head all week. What about that Whats the Use and First Tube. So much energy and excitement from Trey. Just a wonderful night. Also this Hood was fantastic. So glad the phish is still doing it all these years later at such a high level. FYI the jam started after the Thank You Mr Hood vocal when it got quiet. The Hood jam is always beautiful but never exactly the same. You talked about them listening to each other which is exactly what Trey says. He said you should never hear or listen to yourself on stage. Always be listening to the other guys because someone always has a musical idea.

Love your comments about the maturity, and how the band and the audience allow them to play this way... like you said, so much of music is about the next note and the next riff. Phish asks us to be present and enjoy the moment, and wait for that next note until it's ready to be played. (btw, you almost killed me when you paused right there, lol 🤣)

Michael dips his toes back into PH world… I’m tempted to say something snide (as we persnickety Phishheads are want to do online), but it’s actually heartening to hear you went to NYE! Maybe you’ve finally found that nice balanced middle ground with the PH and us Phishhead trolls. I was here for all the videos and the turmoil a few years ago now. I still hate that you pulled them all down because those were such good times (and reaction videos) until it all blew up. Appreciate the video, Mike...even if you did pause it at all the wrong times lol! I’m still not convinced you fully get it but keep going to shows, and maybe one day it will click. I am a fan of your work. Happy 2025 to you and yours, Michael…

It's so difficult to say "the" quintessential because there are a few I'd say. However, I always use it as the clearest and best example to showcase a Phish song and what they do. It's the best example (IMO) of how they play with the structure of a song, they do it to most of course, but Hood is loose so every one is truly different and unique. Yet the song remains the same.

Phish songs are like stories with all their different parts. The stories are always different and it varies on how long it can take to get to the parts, but it’s so much fun listening to what they do as they progress through the parts until the end. Some people are turned off cause the songs are too long but when you know the different parts and what they are doing to get there, it’s awesome.

@@oliverchapman51177 Yup. Just did it and forgot I was at this show! Thanks for inspiring so many memories. This run was one of the serious peaks in their musicality, my opinion anyway. They were really hitting their stride. We'll, their 2nd or 3rd stride...So many epics on this run. I seem to remember a Halley's Comet that just blew everyone's face off. Trey was all about that looper, too. Was so good seeing them at the mother ship. Oh the fuzzy memories. Hampton was a home and having seen them in clubs and kind of growing up with them, it was a proud type of feeling witnessing them blow the roof off of Hampton. A real " they made it moment" at every Hampton show. And you're absolutely right. Life changing indeed. Thanks for the nudge to listen, my friend.

Phish is amazing ( & my favorite) artists! If ever you get lost within Phish, Fishman will lead you home. The key is listening! I appreciate your listening skills. They listen to each other, and move/share the "lead" energy across the stage. It may be the "sustainiac" tool that keeps those Trey notes going?.... Page McConnell, Mike Gordon, Jon Fishman, Trey Anastasio have colluded to make our lives infinitely more enjoyable.

With the infinite sustain, the hollow body guitar allows feedback to carry the note. I can accomplish something similar on my fred instruments replica, in my home office with just studio monitors and playing through line 6 pod go (amp sim) .... So there are some bands that I recognize as just other-worldly like The Grateful Dead, Umphry's McGee, The Tedeschi Trucks Band and Phish as another. But there are some songs and some versions of them that I just can't stick with for more than 5 minutes or so. I'm not saying these bands aren't fantastic - they are. I think my brain (via my ears) has some sort of limiters that make me reach for the dial after a while. This being said, when Trey Anastasio is in the pocket and running I am always just blown away. He's one of those players that goes somewhere else to play while he is standing right in front of you on stage. Great video as always Michael, thank you!

I see them at least twice every YEMSG run and caught 28 and 29 this time around. The 28th had a few good ones but the 29th was fantastic. Of course Hood is ALWAYS good. This one probably better than most with the build. He usually holds one note for a long time - and when I saw them a few years ago, I timed him holding that note for a full two minutes! This song is such a wonderful uplifting peak that it is just about impossible not to feel good while listening!
