You’re correct! John Myung was a big fan of Billy Sheehan then. The DT boys would go see Talas in the local clubs in NY back then. There is a good version of YTSE Jam later with better production if you’ll be digging into the live albums as well. YTSE Jam comes from “Majesty” spelled backwards. That was their band name before Dream Theater but there was another Majesty band so they ended up changing it but keeping the Majesty logo. I’m excited you’re continuing the DT journey. There’s so much to encounter. There are some technical pieces and long songs with progressive passages but you’ll find so much more than that as you go along. There are some great B-sides that I think you’ll want to include as well but I’ll mention them to you as you go along!

Bro! Dream theater is riddled with gems... you should find them and pick them out!....You will find more!... check out instrumental versions of their songs (bridges in the sky)..... this band is the most giving out of all the bands but people write them off! .....Lost not forgotten, pale blue dot, glassy eyed zombies, Bombay vindaloo live at marquette...great music! (it's kinda creepy) just the tip of the iceberg .... I mean c'mon ..... m.fing legendary!

Lol it’s just their original name MAJESTY backwards. I think Petrucci is so different because he is mainly self taught.

Talent is obvious, so it comes down to how guitar players support the song and the emotion it bares. Complicated and technically difficult should not be the only standard on how to rank or appreciate guitarists. For instance, when I listen to ''Bark at the moon'' I hear the perfect balance or musicianship and musicality (RIP Randy Rhodes). Players like Alex Lifeson where not only focus on their chops but also the overall effect that their playing brings to the actual song. That's where a lot of extremely talented musician fall short for me. If a guitar solo doesn't add anything emotionally or doesn't push the intended feel of a song further....then it's just a bunch of notes jammed together and played really fast isn't it ?? David Gilmour kinda illustrates this point. Love your reviews man!!

He's got all that. ❤️

A lot of players can play some insane things but cannot compose as well as they play. Petrucci can do it and for that he is the greatest in my opinon. He does both of these things better than anyone, again in my opinion.

I don't know if you're doing live DT albums in this series but if not you should at least listen to Bombay Vindaloo on 'Live at the Marquee' before moving to 'Images and Words' .
