I bought one from Sweetwater. Absolutely love it. The tone variety is amazing. Solid construction, great neck, pick ups are awesome. Just a pleasure to play. Well worth every cent.

For a guitar in the $450 ( US ) range I like it a lot. Good looking & comfortable shape, nice sounding pickups in HSS , an old school "C" shape carve with the 1.653" nut width. Normally in that price range they need upgrades, but this one stands on it's own imho. No wiggle stick on a surf guitar is a bit weird to some, but I like a hard-tail.

You still liking your Surfliner? I’m more of an acoustic player, but I want a bit of a knockaround electric for occasional recording and messing around.
@Russell_Optics2 жыл бұрын
@@goosegaskins It's ok, but I rarely play it. I prefer lighter semi-hollow guitars. Currently my go-to guitars are the PRS Vela semi-hollow and the new Harmony Comet. Both are less than 7 pounds and very comfortable to play with a wide range of tone.

I have only 1 Guild guitar, it's a 'cheapish' electro acoustic, but the build quality is superb, I'm not a natural acoustic player so If I'm happy with that then this must be 'Fab!'

It's named after a California costal railroad - which also lacks a trem.

@@bobaldo2339 Ah, the age-old connection between the offset electric guitar and... the railroad. I remember those timeless 60's bands like "The Train Boys" and "The Railfaris" that popularized California train culture. Truly, if the California Coastal Railroad was the inspiration for the name, that's even more confounding than the trem omission...

My big issue with the surfliner is the 2 or 3 piece body and the way the colour stain is a different colour dye to poor matching of the wood grain. It just make the guitar look totally cheap. The sage is least affected by this but I'd prefer solid paint rather than transparent stain.

You have the guitar there and you aren't going to measure the pickups or weigh it or even talk about frets? Are these ALNICO's? One of my issue with HSS guitars is the 500k pots can make the neck and middle pickup too bright if they are vintage 5.8k singles. But these pickups 'look' like they are more powerful - the larger pole pieces, the chrome cover. Could be nothing, I suppose. And what exactly is up with the 23 frets? Is the neck pickup on the 24th, or is pushed back like the SG?

That's a terrible place to put a scarf joint. Gretsch does that too.

I agree with you, but he said it's the best place to put it, for strength.
@mickeyjohnson11372 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyclegg1511 It's not the best place for strength if the fretboard needs removing. Also, after years of playing, a divot will form where the joint is glued.
@anthonyclegg15112 жыл бұрын
@@mickeyjohnson1137 ok, thanks mickey, I'm thinking of getting a gretsch, at the moment I play a squire tele and strat, you've kinda put me off the idea. Are all Gretsch made the same way, with the scarf joint.? Thanks.
@mickeyjohnson11372 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyclegg1511 I believe the higher-end Gretsches have the scarf joints at the traditional location where the neck meets the headstock. I worked at Gibson Guitars years ago. Gibson considered it a screwup to do what Gretsch does with a scarf joint, but lots of Gibsons break at the scarf joint. I own two Gretsches, an Electromatic and Streamliner. I'm happy with them both. Don't let the location of the scarf joint put you off on buying one. I think Gretsch makes quality low-end guitars. Repairs that call for removing the fretboard aren't that common, and it takes lots of time to wear out a neck on the backside by playing the instrument. I don't think you will be disappointed if you buy a Gretsch. Go for it. If you are thinking of buying a Streamliner, check out the G2627t. It is a limited edition exclusive that you can find on line or at Guitar Center. It plays better than other Streamliners. It has a very nice feeling neck.
