Ben is without a doubt the best teacher out there. He dives deep into topics...and hit the mental..,. Which is better than learning the intro of a song or a quick lick

I feel this. I knew when I bought into your courses that I wanted to learn to shred, sweep, tap and whammy bar stuff. I felt overwhelmed because I wanted to learn it all all at the same time and decided I needed to just work on alternate picking, economy picking and legato. Licks related to that. So I created a work out specifically for those things so that I could get into playing and learning new licks that I wanted to be able to do. You had an older video that really inspired me that was just about keeping things musical and learning songs and solos that you like instead of just drilling exercises. You also said something that spoke to me about things that are flashy or technical but you felt like it wasn't saying anything. I see what looks like guitar gymnastics but not necessarily interesting to me. To each their own though. . anywho... don't want to ramble on but I really like what you offer. I'm sold on you as a teacher and your products. You have changed my playing and makes the journey brand new again. I wish you would teach something on learning songs or solos by ear. All of my heroes did that but in a day in age where I can KZbin everything I feel like I've always relied on that instead of woodshedding. It's a skill I'd like to acquire or work more on. Anywho, looking forward to next weeks assignment and the round table when that comes up :) Also... I picked up guitar when I was 12 because my brother started on it and had to do everything he did :) I'm 38 now and it's just as magical now as it was then.

Sometimes a guy just don't want anymore instructions...but to listen to Ben talk about the mental blocks, loss of inspiration etc. Really helps. It's not as though it's new news but more a comformation of what many of us go through...it's called life!!! Keep it up Ben, your right on point.....Thank you. Ps....hello Mrs Ben.

I like it cause ben changed my life ffs, the best youtube guitar teacher ever, the rest are just garbage. I made huge progress in short time cause of Ben. Love to you both! 🤘🖤 Edit: the reason i picked the guitar was always to being able to play all the stuff i listen to from my fave bands and maybe creating my own music while be able to running around the fretboard without limitations, it'd give me the feel of Immortality.

I like Ben’s videos after my last big lightbulb moment he shared about 3 note per string scales he shared years ago. It’s a long story but I know God used him to give me clarity in a particular area of my playing. I started when I about 12yrs old after seeing a talent show at school. The last act was fellow students that got together and played Talk Dirty To Me by Poison and the girls rushed the stage. I looked around and all I seen setting around me on the bleachers was all dudes. Even the pretty boy jocks were part of the sausage party of nobody’s left in the bleachers. All the chicks were gathered together singing along, jumping up and down an loving it. I said myself I can do this and I never stopped. I’m almost 50yrs now and still learning. I can honestly say now I can melt a guitar with understanding and Ben an a few others over the years helped me get here. I have no regrets

I started playing keyboard at first then at 9 started playing guitar because my friends band needed another guitarist so I learned the guitar but after 40yrs of playing it is easy to get stuck. I love your videos are good a simplifying the problems and help me get back on track keep up the great work both of you🤘🤘

Good stuff as always! I liked the video because it features, as always, Lord Higgy giving excellent advice in a clear, concise, and no bulls@*t manner. More specifically I liked the point about narrowing your focus, because in the past I'd try to squeeze four or five different areas that need to be addressed into the hour I might have left after a day at work. I got the legato gym course and it has really helped me to make some improvements in my playing. I picked up the guitar way back when because I heard "Diary of a Madman" by Ozzy Osbourne and decided that I wanted to play guitar.

Interesting questions! I like Ben's manner, and I like geeky discussions about guitar practice, so that's what I like about the vid. And, well, you can sing and play guitar at once - can't do that with a trumpet. Also most of my favorite music is made with guitars. Finally, I saw Song Remains the Same when I was about 18 years old, and it blew me away. So that's about why I picked up the guitar.

Hi! 1. I picked the guitar because a shreddy 80s lick was the coolest thing I ever heard! 2. I liked the video because as usual Lord Higgy takes all the bulsh*** away and delivers what we need to progress! 3. Just hit the “Super Thanks” or the “obrigado” from where I came from. Let me know if it worked. It was a “€1,99 Super Thanks” at the end! ⚔️🛡

I liked the video , the bit about the amount of time was very interesting, when I’m in top practice mode 2 hours is my sweet spot . I’ve got stuck in a procrastination rut the past 6 months after a year of regular timed practice & achieving some goals I set. I had a break for Xmas but never recovered afterwards. Although it did show me I can achieve if I practice regularly ,what I thought was beyond me. It’s just getting back in the habit again ,once I’m in the habit I don’t wanna break it and enjoy ticking off the days and my progress . I started playing the guitar because of people like EVH ,Slash ,Vai ,Malmsteen , Joe Perry , W.a.S.p . I lacked self confidence though to progress , now I found out some things are possible (we’ll probably not the malmsteen vai stuff so much ) that I can play a lot of what I want ,procrastination has got me , it’s harder to get into good habits when bad habits are so easy . Even though my practice regimen has not yet returned to the heights of last year,I’m still having small breakthroughs in what most would call simple stuff , and it does make me feel good . Having mental health problems doesn’t help , and meds can make you tired . I did well last year when I got to bed earlier ,listened to self help tapes, hypnosis etc to form good habits ,so I do look forward to starting again . Enjoyed Mrs Higgins interjections and input . This video definitely Gee’d me up Also great help from ben’s speed picking video which I watched last night and have added tremolo picking to my daily bit of fun , am going to need it if I want to trem pick like Eddie . Eddie’s sound has always foxed me . I know about his use of sus 4 type chord partials, those symmetrical runs , which bring a bit of outside the scale sound , his use of arpeggios etc , but I still cannot figure how he can sound so different even playing slower stuff , his note choices seem to fit but not fit . Eg not just the technical stuff but his choice of notes and arpeggios sound like no one else . Thanks for a great video

I like this video wich says don’t work too hard... and don’t expect too fast. The good sense. So it could be a solution to play one day, and pratice the next... why I pick up th guitar ? Now to find my own voice, sound, lines... Thanks lord and lady !

I've been in a rut for years. I think the reason is that I stopped learning songs that I wanted to play and instead just played drills and licks. I've been playing for 20 years and I was at my best after around 2-3 years and I think that's because I learned all my techniques by learning Hendrix, Metallica and Guns 'N' Roses songs. I think I need to start learning songs again instead of focusing too much on licks and techniques.

Yup - guitar playing is pure joy. Whether I'm just sitting on the sofa "exercising my fingers" or actually working on writing something. Little licks and riffs and song fragments often come out of those noodling sessions and I quickly record them into my phone, then when I get nice chunks of studio time I have something that I really want to work on. If I didn't enjoy it I wouldn't do it. # I picked it up 'cos I was 13 and Nirvana had just released In Utero - Its still brilliant. I probably have a slight advantage over some of your watchers in that I'm not really into playing speed/shred stuff. I mainly play/write and record sort of metal tinged alternative punk stuff. I'm better than I need to be for the style of music I play. I do occasionally overdo it playing/recording bass. That's 'cos I never practice bass. So I tend to write the basslines as I'm sitting down to record them. I don't like just hammering away on root notes, and I have to get my hands used to the increased pressure and longer stretches for bass runs. My left forearm is actually aching a bit today 'cos I did a good couple of hours of bass recording yesterday - take after take.

Hi, I liked the video because Ben is a great player and I think his words will mean a lot to newer players (I can say for sure because I've only been playing for 4 months, and have been in a rut already) and I know his words are true. It's all about having fun. As for the reason why I picked up the guitar, well there are two but truly they are one and the same: 1. I wanted to live life like I wanted to and make it my own, cause I had to do a lot of stuff I hated lately. 2. I've wanted to be like my guitar heroes for a long time, just took a long time to finally get there and start. The song that really pushed me to pick up the guitar is my all time favorite - "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" by Megadeth.

I always do what you asked for Miss. It is mostly because of you indeed, but please don't tell Ben. The reason I do is because the content is true. Mind you we know it is a marketing strategy to sell courses, and that is more than fair. And it works. The courses do sell. I am a livivng proof. When Ben talks about focus, it resonates. Ben always cover the most important illusions that stop us from gaining progress. May this answer suit your answer Miss and have a Fantastic day. Also please send my Salutations to the Maestro Mr Higgins. Edit;: You added another question Miss. . . . The reason I first picked it up at age 12 was to be able to create music, create sounds, and it is still the same today, and the piano & recorders weren't the kind of sounds I wanted in my creativity then. MTV has corrupt my young teen brain to worship the sound of guitar. . Thank you.

You got my number boy … I always seem to take on way too much ! Instead of mastering the passage or lick . Another video pops up and I start messing with that . The absolute worst time I did this is when I was doing a triplet run than heard a lick on tv. I dropped everything and wasted half my day trying to play that lick … it was from a damn BREAD .. ThAnks Higgs . Mrs sounds amazing

I liked the video because it explained the rut we get into. finding it hard to progress by playing the same stuff we have become so used to for so long which makes us stop progressing by sheer habit. I started playing guitar when I first heard Apache by the Shadows on a factory Tannoy in the early days. I progressed from that to Chuck Berry, Stones, Clapton in the Blues era & now find myself cemented in all I've learned over the years & tend to play now without learning new tricks. Can an old dog be inspired to change his habits?....Hmmmm? 🙄

Been playing for a few years. Never got faster at scales, and 3 notes per string, so I spent the last couple of years trying to improve it, but I never get any better. I have improved a little, but still can't play them smoothely. I watch your videos partly for the advice, and partly for the entertainment LOL.

I like your twist on guitar videos. No nonsense and it's great that you involved your wife, a refreshing change from a scene that is dominated by just dudes and some girls that are typically more worried about looking sexy on camera than about how they play. Here's hoping you don't end up going the clickbait route of pouring water into guitars and claiming it sounds inanse ;) And yes, tendinitis is a legitimate risk if you practice for hours at a time, something that's rarely adressed. Please take a step back when you notice the first signs because worst case scenario it can ruin your favorite hobby.

I like the video, same reason as #19 and I can add that I like most of the videos that ben puts out because they're relevant to my guitar playing errors and what I need to do to get better. Ben has some amazing insights and it's like he's reading my mail. And I like Miss higgy cuz I like her voice she sounds like Sharon Osborn , I know she's a lot younger but she sounds just like her. Plus it's kind of cool having a different perspective besides you know just Ben's. And it cracks me the fuck up when you'll start talking about balls and the way I'll say balls lol have a great day oh. One more thing I don't even listen to metal I don't even really like a lot of metal stuff but I do see the playing is the main point here not the style or genre you know picking his picking in my opinion thank you
