In this Here Without You guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this beautiful song from 3 Doors Down in its entirety.
The tuning is Eb standard tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. Or if your tuner displays chromatic notes as sharps, those notes will be D# G# C# F# A# D#.
There are only three sections to cover here, the verse, chorus and bridge. The intro is simply the second half of the verse so I am not considering it as a separate section.
I will take you through each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording. Some of these guitar parts can be quite the challenge. Not only is there some barre chord work (which can be difficult for some players, especially on acoustic guitar), but the arpeggiated picking requires a good amount of accuracy as well.
But, any challenges you come up against while learning this song are well worth it since it is such a beautiful song to play once you have it down.

A little trick I was taught when I was first learning how to play chords is using your arm and the fretting hand as a weight on the strings when you're pushing down. Basically you relax your shoulder/upper arm, and apply pressure 50% pushing your thumb on the neck and 50% pressing your fingers down. I'm guessing he's using a similar technique.

Carl I love what's hanging on the wall behind you. I don't enjoy mentioning the unbelievable crazy rare medical stuff that escalated 2022, not anything I'd mention if it weren't crippling, usually fatal and throw in that I've been n dismissed, ignored undiagnosed, misdiagnosed misunderstood,judged with prejudice. In 1990 I severed the median nerve in my left wrist. I turned 22 a week before...stopped me for 2 years, permanent nerve damage, numbness thumb, pointer, middle finger. Persisted...can't pop pinch harmonics like I used to, and I'd probably be at a similar level to yourself if not for the injury.. Anyway my ear developed and I enjoy playing. If I survive, I'm dying to own guitars again. I got very ill lost apartment, landlords made sure to not be around when I could move stuff .Not an easy thing without wheels, job..storage and little help 3rd floor I enjoy your videos, it inspires me to hang on I checked this video cuz I thought I remembered the chords for this, I did. Ty again, when I'm able I'll sign up, you're the best instructor I've found on YT over the years. I'm 55 with grandchildren, no one including myself ever expected anything like rare parasitic ( non contagious) blood, liver infections to be the way I'm finished. Sorry do long if its even read . I'm not offended I get your busy, ty
