Profoundly grateful for this tutorial Sandra. Not into jazz but wanted to expand my theory knowledge. Arguably the best, easy - to follow lesson on the Diminished scale which was always enshrouded in mystery to me, until I trolled upon your tutorial. Other lessons just confused me, entrenching the notion that these scales are for the gifted musicians. Absolutely easy to follow. Will help me get out of my guitar rut of so-called normal scales.

@jzgtr100 Жыл бұрын
Same here. I use the idea of using the arpeggio on the 3rd, 5th, 7th and b9 of dominant 7 chords and run between these tones chromatically, also. It gives me great freedom, especially on minor 2-5-1s, but was really missing the beauty of the diminished scale ideas, using the connecting notes. Part of my problem was using the 5th and 6th strings. Hard to come up with an economical and memorable fingering pattern. Nicely lies on the top four strings and gives me a sound that has been missing from my soloing.

Sandra, I am still somewhat confused when you introduce the pattern, the pattern demonstrates the consistency of half step, the whole steps for the strings starting on the pinky on the D string, Do you apply the same sequence for the low E A strings? I am referring to your first example, starting with your pinky. Thank you!
@GuitarversumSandraSherman9 күн бұрын
No, this works only from D string to high e-string, so the highest 4 strings. Below that it gets vusually asymmetrical. Tonaly the scale will always be symmetrical though. It's just a visual thing.

Dear Sandra, Which Realbook standard would you advice to apply these motives ? (The simplest)
@GuitarversumSandraSherman2 жыл бұрын
Latin standards (Bossa Nova) have plenty of diminished chords, that function as passing chords. Like "Once I Loved", Corcovado, Wave. But you can use the diminished concept over altered chords too. To know which diminished fits over which alt chord, please check out my video "Dimnished over Dominant chords".
@terpentoon2 жыл бұрын
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Danke dir herzlich. Bossa Nova ist mein Lieblingsgenre. :)

Diminished arps often are a life saver for me 😊
@oneeyemonster32622 жыл бұрын
The trick is you could stack MAJOR, min, DOMINANT or dim chords every b3 intervals too...if you use the FULL dim H/W. It just depends how you want to learn it...or build on what you already know. Harmonic min b5 and Melodic min b5 = full dim W/H dor b2, #4 and lyd b2, b7 = full dim H/W 2, 4, b6, 7 chord degree...No matter if you count from TONIC or relative if you use C harmonic MAJOR = D, F, Ab. B ................A harmonic min = B, D, F, G# in a Nutshell.....G7.....Bb.......Db......E7 ( Bb and Db are N6 chords) Some people call them tritone SUBS. But you could also vamp it over the TONIC or relative minor. The magic is when you apply playing minor chords every b3 intervals From F MAJOR/Dmin D min Ab min B min F dim A7 into D min Eb maj7 A min Gb min C7 into F Maj Bb min G7 C# dim C7 into F
