Blues, more so than any other genre is about feel more than rules - and this mindset around patterns helps so much about ignoring the rules that can make playing sound too scaley and build your own patterns. And this isn't just great for blues guitar, but any musical style and any instrument and build your own playing styles, rhythms and riffs that show your own musical personality. But you need to have the knowledge, skills and techniques that come with learning all the rules so you can instead build your own rules and patterns. Beethoven's 5th with the da da da daaaas are a great example of patterns in music and when the listener starts to recognise your patterns and be surprised by changes to the pattern they didn't predict is something studies have shown that listeners really positively respond to That's why this video is so good for budding musicians and songwriters
