@@scottbauerbelow thank you! We are in New Orleans and one of our videos will be screened at the San Diego Undersea Film Exhibition so we will be going there in early October. Was not sure if you attended these things but I thought I would let you know in case you were heading there.

On Decommissioning Only Its Topside - the part of the platform above the waterline - is lifted out of the sea and shipped to a specialist decommissions Area . Everything Below the Waterline , Remains , as you see it here .

Not necessarily, if it is accepted into the rigs to reefs program (which takes a lot of funding) the bottom part will remain. However it will be cut off at a depth of 70-90 feet…if it is not reefed the whole structure will be removed

Wow, that was beautiful. Do you know the reason why the structures are removed? Couldn't they just remove the top portion down to as deep as where it's not a threat to ships? Whatever the reason, we need more artificial reefs since so many species are being overfished. Especially our reefs are dying due to climate change. Though Hawaii is in the middle of the deepest oceans on the planet, our reefs are dying. And where there was a city of inhabitants, it's practically an underwater ghost town.

Thank you! I am not sore but from what I understand they are removed because they pose a navigational hazard to ships, they can cut them off like you mentioned but that will depend on whether or not the oil company is able and willing to artificially reef them…
