You see, the high school "cool guy," portrayed by Shane Gillis, didn't realize how immensely successful Forrest Gump had been in his life after high school. He asked, in an incredulous fashion, "Forrest? What's he been up to?" The response, "Actually, a lot," was funny, if you're familiar with the fictional character, Forrest Gump. Forrest had acomplished a tremendous amount after high school, beyond most folks' dreams, therefore the joke lands perfectly.

@@tjn7608 also not every medal of honor recipient received a Purple Heart, To be awarded a Purple Heart an individual needs injured in combat. I.E Dr. Mary Edwards Walker she’s the only female to ever receive the medal of honor, and technically wasn’t even commissioned. But they let it slide.

Nobody claimed it was real, mudge002able just pointed out that the character got another award for his service in the movie. Most people don't require reminders to distinguish between fiction and reality, but glad to know you think it's an accomplishment when you manage to pull it off!

When SGT Forrest Gump receives his LOD (Letter of Discharge), he is only wearing five ribbons - Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Medal, but is missing the ribbon device for the Medal of Honor for which he was awarded by President. He was injured in Vietnam in the film so he got a Purple Heart.

Do you mean snl finally admitted that it's okay to be racist towards Asians and everyone as long as its for comedy purposes, or alternatively they finally realized that nobody is watching their unfunny show, so they had to get a real comedian to spice it up???? Honest question here I'm just sort of offended that shane did a skit starring an r worded person and never said the r word once. We all know he wanted to so bad. The 1985 Costume Props is totally ON POINT! Including the 90’s movie referencing all the big moments of the GenX Boomer Parents- it’s nice to see SNL not just for “ZeeBee”’s & the twinkle parade kids of today’s SM. 🎉❤🎉

This guy is so fixed on the cue it's distracting. In most of his skits he seems like he's reading them for the first time - I think SNL dodged a bullet not casting him.
