I’m actually more concerned that she “was” trying to pull the trigger. I can picture after the first no fire taking the revolver and looking down the barrel. I’m not joking. I really think she would have shot herself is she knew of the trigger. That’s god’s grace looking out for us when we need it most. Worst part is I’m sure this happens more often then we think to men or woman. Thank you Barry for helping her be safer.

I personally believe that gun ownership is a GOD Given Right, with that being said, some people can't even tie their own shoes! The level of ignorance of gun operation, (ignoring gun safety) in my mind's eye, to me says that some of these RIDICULOUS gun laws may be pertinent to our time. The gun is a simple machine meant to do one thing, and if people can't figure out how to operate it, then maybe most gun laws should be more stringent. Or, conversely, we need better education as far as gun operation. People are stupid. Make gun classes MANDATORY in states that allow guns, and allow the people that are smart enough own and operate guns as freely as law enforcement.

I may get flak for this, but this is exactly the reason why there needs to be a licensing system for fire arms. People should go to a class, take a test, and PROVE that they understand and are capable of using a firearm. Like what we do with cars. Believe me I'm no firearm hating anti gunner, I love guns and I support the 2nd amendment (I'm Canadian btw) I just think that in some places its way too easy to get a gun, allowing uninformed and stupid people access to things that can end up causing trouble in the wrong hands.

It makes sense to not sell guns to people who don't know what they're dealing with so they don't shoot themselves or others. Accidents that arise from foolish, untrained, first time gun buyers in itself is very tragic, but then the anti gun types would use those instances to paint a picture of all firearms owners as irresponsible because of one idiot who was sold a gun who shouldn't have had it in the first place. Imagine if we just sold cars to people without licenses?
@scotthelm5577
@scotthelm5577 8 жыл бұрын
If you are stupid enough to not understand the trigger fired the weapon, I don't want you in a car or anywhere near my children at all. That's an extreme case of a dumbass on earth. No test will help that kind of stupidity. As I said, your car analogy is bogus, for many reasons. We take exams and pass road test for our license. They still kill more people per capita than anything else. We learn about DUI laws, yet, people still die at an alarming rate anyway. I don't believe taking an exam to drive a car deters deaths on the road at all. Also, in America, driving a car is a PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT. Owning Firearms is a RIGHT, and the government cannot impede on it. 95% of Legal gun owners know how to fire the weapon and operate it. We are not going to bend the constitution because there are a few idiots who can't pee standing up without hitting their feet. In Canada, you don't have God given rights. You don't have a constitution. You are properties of the state. We don't want that here, and we arent going to allow the government the right to chip away at us.
@bryanjr5745
@bryanjr5745 8 жыл бұрын
A test obviously wouldn't serve to teach anyone about firearms, it would only be used to certify or prove that a person is capable of owning/operating a firearm. A course is what would teach a person how to properly use them, and again, the test would be to prove that they are capable. As for Canada not having a constitution, that couldn't be further from the truth, but i won't argue with you about our government being because I would agree our politicians can't tell their asses from their elbows. I also have to give it to you; you are very right in that owning a firearm is a right and not a privilege so my idea wouldn't be appropriate in the US, but i would hope that more and more people continue to practice gun safety because no one wants the examples of the people in the videos to be owning firearms.

As Ron White says "you can't fix stupid." either way one shouldn't have to take a cource (i.e. asking the govt's permission) to exercise a god-given right. that is only a vehicle for disarmament, D.C. is the perfect example.

AirForceAce3571 That is a very flawed assumption. Training is not a bad thing and should not account to control. Maybe the gun shops down there can take it upon themselves to have a mandatory hour training course before they can walk out with the gun? This way no government control but they still get some sort of training? In Canada we have to pass the training course(s) which is not hard and undergo a criminal record check. Problem with our system is that its considered a privilege not a right to own a firearm and the RCMP take their sweet ass time issuing it. This is where its harder here. But training in of itself is not bad. Maybe like I said gun shops take more action on their own and no government regulations/restrictions will be needed? Just a thought.

That goes with anything! I have operator manuals on the 3 units of the power plant I start up, run and shut down! And these are not small units! It takes at least 6 hours to start each one up on a fast day. Sometimes they are on for such a long time one has to go thru the written procedures just to know how to properly shut them down safely. There are amendments to these procedures along the way, but the instruction manuals are worth their weight in-- well you get it. Between the ears!

I just figure they didn't have a daddy. My dad bought me a .22 rifle when I was 13. By the time I was 14 I knew the difference between .22 short, .22 long, .22 long rifle, and how semi-automatic rifles worked, and that the ammo is dangerous out to maybe a mile, and that the bullets point toward the muzzle (and what a muzzle was), and that a dirty gun jams. I don't ever recall having to be told that I needed to pull back on the trigger though. That one's a classic.

Your story about the lady who didn't pull the trigger reminded me of a summer job I had in a Miami department store. A lady wants to buy a large floor fan. After looking at the different types, she decides to get a 20" box fan. Next day she comes in wanting to return it. I asked, "What's the problem with the fan? She replies, "It's defective." I probe further. "What exactly is it doing or not doing?" She yells back, "It's blowing hot air. Yesterday when I tried it out in the store, it blew cold air."

I miss seeing Ol' Barry on the videos... He was always trying to be 110% SERIOUS, but damn it, that man was FUNNY!.... Sometimes when he talked about the dumb stuff he'd say people did, you can tell it just would completely BLOW HIS MIND!... He seemed like he was very knowledgeable and a decent fella....

My favorite was a trip to the range where a gun-noob was trying to load his revolver front to back in the cylinder instead of from the back of the cylinder forward. Couldn't get the cylinder closed...obviously. Made him feel a little stupid, but showed him the right way, and gave him a little lesson in firearms safety as well as knowing your firearm before considering taking it to the range. Hopefully he will learn how to operate his next one BEFORE taking it to the range.

I've been around firearms for 55+ years, I'm planning on purchasing a new gun soon and immediately after taking it out of the box my plan is to read the manual although I've read hundreds of others before. This was one of the scariest videos I've ever seen. I guess you just can't fix stupid, even with duct tape.

Thanks for your video. Here in western Washington state we have had THREE tragic accidental shootings of young children in the last 30 days. Two were fatal, and both resulted from adults leaving (legally carried) loaded handguns AND their young kids unattended in their cars. One of those two adults was a local LEO !

This video is soooo true! I have taken friends to the range... I always watch the newcomers like a hawk because I am the biggest safety nazi around... It is INSANE how often people will try and load bullets in the wrong direction. People who are familiar with guns get so comfortable thinking that stuff is basic knowledge... when people ask me ask me which way to load bullets, I just ask them if they prefer if they fire towards the target or towards themselves lol...

KZbin is sometimes more helpful than the gun manuals. Some manuals are very vague or say that things should take very little force to come out. The tolerances for some new guns are so tight that certain pins need a punch to remove. Doesn't take much force, but like hell you can just push it out with your finger. Another example the S&W MP9, the tool in the grip 100% had to be pried out on mine. No way was it possible to pull out by hand. Makes me nervous when dealing with that and youtube definitely helps seeing someone else do it and say "oh, that needs to get broken in before it can pop out sometimes". THANKS...

Here's one that went the right way: i was in a gun shop talkin with the gunsmith when a guy comes in with a Glock 23 plainly marked .40 on the slide and on the mag, but not on the barrel. He explains that he can't get .40 s&w to chamber. James (the gunsmith) takes it apart and can't find any markings on the barrel and verifies that .40 won't chamber. I asked James if he was thinking what I was. He said 357 Sig? I said try it and it fit like a glove. All barrels should be stamped with the caliber

We had work to do on the Cooling Tower deck about 75' from ground level. We have to install our own partial working deck to access the gearbox and fan blades. We wear fall protection to perform maintenance. This is a must. In my instructions I mentioned that we have a procedure that allows us not to wear fall protection if we are 6' away from the edge. A volunteer walked on the working deak without fall protection. My heart stopped. I realized my instructions confused the volunteer. Be specific

Here in South Africa you have to obtain a competency certificate from a registered firearm instructor before your can own a firearm. The certificate requires you to write an exam on the laws applicable to firearm ownership and you do a practical exam on the safe operation of the specific type of firearm that you intend to purchase.

Here is one for you. I worked with a woman that asked for advice regarding buying a gun for the home, her first. She did not buy exactly what I recommended, she did buy a pump 12 gauge shotgun. During the following year, I would inquire, "Have you shot your gun yet." The answer was repeatedly, "No." Surprisingly, one day she said she did shoot it, but it would only fire one round at a time. Can you guess why it would not repeat? "Did you read the manual?" Can you guess the answer? She had no idea that you had to load the gun's magazine tube!

Imagine how that would hold up in court if she accidentally shot somebody. " I just didn't know you had to pull the trigger". Nobody on planet earth would believe this. Watch any single action movie ever made. In states that required permits, I think it should be mandatory you take a safety test to get a gun, even if it's a small 1 min test at the clerks desk OR have a waiver signed by references saying that you have experience. Nobody with 0 experience should be shooting alone

You aren't even kidding about people loading magazines backwards. Twice in the last year I have assisted new, frustrated gun owners with this very issue at my local range. New glocks bought just that day, both times. After showing them correct way to load their magazine, I suggested that they immediately take the gun home (unloaded) read their manual thoroughly, then look into taking a basic pistol safety course before doing anything else with it. At-least one of the two did just that. TFTV!

This is why (shockingly) I actually SUPPORT some of Canada's gun laws. And yes I am a Canadian gun owner. Up here we must take a course on safe firearm handling, where they show you each different type of action and how to load, unload, and discharge it safely. And I don't mind...because I don't want someone beside me at the range who doesn't know where the trigger is!

I never shot gun in my entire life til a month ago. Even then I was fully capable of operating the firearm effectively. Just from watching movies and playing video games I understood all the basics of loading, chamber, and firing the two semi-auto handgun I shot. the only issue I had was with not pushing the mag in far enough with the 1911 I shot.

Don't even get me started on the guy who couldn't open a box of ammunition. What's worse is they probably weren't even embarrassed after asking these questions. Impressive

I cocked this revolver 2 hours ago and nothing! LOL. Loading backwards! We had an experienced armored car guard do it on the requalify range. 10 years experience, you have to requalify twice a year and he still didn't have it figured out! It's a good thing he never had to use his gun on the job. LOL. If you are buying a gun and never used it before, keep it in the box, go to a range that does classes and sign up. If the classes cost too much, find an experienced friend to teach you the basics before you hurt yourself or somebody else.
