Gun Restoration : Still loaded 1880 Bulldog Revolver - Fire test

Restoration of a 1880 Bulldog revolver loader 150 years ago !
These small pocket revolvers in calibre 320 were mainly used in Europe to defend oneself in the street and against stray dogs.
This one was forgotten for more than 150 years and found totally blocked, with minutions from that time inside.
The restoration process includes several steps:
- unlocking the cylinder
- disassemble the revolver
- remove the rust with an electrolysis
- copper plating the frame
- nickel plating the frame
- reassemble the revolver
- test with a blank ammunition
This video is only a restoration of an historical object and in no way about the apology of weapons.

Hello bro !

Getting the ammunition out of a jammed barrel is risky. When the ammunition did not come out directly, we pierced the first warheads (that's why they are broken, with a non-sparking tool of course) to drown the black powder with water and of course do not hit the primer side. The wet black powder is then no longer a risk. The primer is still a minor risk, so keep your head and fingers away from the barrel

Especially when the ammo is this old - up until the start of the 20th century the use of mercury fulminate in primers was common. Although fairly stable when originally manufactured this can react with the copper in the brass case and yield a product that's significantly more shock sensitive than the original priming agent.

I used electrolysis a lot in the 90's cleaning ancient coins and Spanish Galleon pieces of 8, etc.. I recently restored the H&R version of your Bulldog "Saturday Night Special." The 1888 Young American .32 cal. I shoot it and it works great. I test in a vice first. Great video.

Rien ne dit qu'il fonctionne, une munition à blanc par essence n'a pas de balle et ne fait que détonner avec une charge moins importante, rien ne dit que les chambres et le canon puissent supporter une véritable munition. Un simple marteau suffit à faire détonner une balle. Après en vrai je pinaille, je pense qu'en effet il est toujours pleinement fonctionnel juste encore moins précis qu'à l'époque !

Hey my Dad found a British Bull when he was a boy. Found it in the woods in Nova Scotia. Fires a shortened 45. It turns out to have been used in a mutiny and has killed sailors. It's still shiny and new(ish) looking. It's mounted on a plaque and has been rendered safe. Our RCMP inspected it and agreed it was safe to own. Yours is only the 2nd 1 I've ever seen.

@ Decades ago when he found it and cleaned it he and his brother found a bullet, shortened it. They then secured the gun attached a wire to the trigger pulled the wire and it fired. They were amazed.
