Gonna play devils advocate here. I think Joe believes that shotguns have some very wide spread (they really don't) and don't need to be aimed well to hit their mark, so firing both barrels from said shotgun would end any threat as far as home invasion goes. Now, back to reality, shotguns are ok for home defense, but a rifle with as much ammo as you can physically fit in the magazine without compromising the weapon is better because why fire two barrels when you can fire one barrel dozens of times and still have ammo left to accidentally kill the neighbors dog that barks to much at 1am.

Rightfully so. All the politicians talk about "assault weapons" while we know exactly what they mean is that the gun looks scary to them because it is associated with military use and war. What they fail to realize is that rifles of all types count for only 340-380 deaths annually while over 3,400 Americans drown each year making water 10x deadlier than rifles in this country. When that's explained to people it either clicks or it doesn't when you tell them that 32,000-40,000 deaths by guns is also a misrepresentation and only 12,000-14,000 of those deaths are homicides which includes accidents. The rest are self-inflicted. That smaller number also includes self-defense cases, and deaths of armed or dangerous individuals that are shot by police. And when you bring those numbers up to people on the other side they deny it up and down and tell you you have the wrong sources. But before you should ask if they would trust the raw numbers and if they would trust the CDC and FBI to give accurate numbers. Saying yes will mean they have already stated the sources are trusted to be accurate and reliable. The numbers aren't gard to find and they even have east to read charts. Its always fun to educate people if they are willing to learn and have a conversation. Sadly, most of them do not want to learn anything and will remain willfully ignorant.

Missed a critical point on the pistol brace topic: SBRs, SBSs & AOWs were included in the NFA as a loophole filler because the original intent of the NFA was to effectively ban handguns... but handguns where stripped from the NFA, and the other short weapons were left in...

The problem with assuming "regulated" means regulated by the government, is the moment a militia has to obey the government, it ceases to be a militia. A militia is a civilian fighting force. Forces that answer to and are beholden to the government are not civilian forces, they are government forces. So the very use of the word "militia" means "regulated," by context, is referring to being functional. Like keeping your bowels regular. To be in good working condition. Obviously, if a civilian fighting force is to be in working order, capable of resisting tyranny, the people must have the right to keep/own and bear armaments that will make them capable of going toe-to-toe with tyrants, be those tyrants foreign or domestic. This is really simple shit; the founding fathers intentionally worded the Bill of Rights to be read AND UNDERSTOOD by the layman. There is no nuance to it, it says exactly what it means, especially given the historical context in which it was written.

LWC research team, look into the militia act of 1790 (ish) , it was code created defining what the "well-regulated" part of the militia means, including REQUIRING private ownership of "military grade " weapons, also the government can't grant us "permission" to keep and bear arms, the second amendment and the bill of rights as a whole AFFIRMS the god given right to be a free human, and its purpose is to limit the powers of government to infringe on those rights, which are deemed "inalienable". A lot of people in the county I live in, in Texas have cannons. They are out in the county areas and use them periodically to keep unwanted animals away. I know this because I used to be a county dispatcher and every time one was set off we would explain to the caller what it was and why and they were always understanding.

An important note when using figures like "average number of home invaders" is that it is not completely relevant for deciding how many rounds you should have; do you want to protect yourself from the average number of home invaders, or all of them?
