I had a brass in 44mag. Nice rifle. I have a blued steel in 357. Henry makes beautiful firearms.
@dukenukem694 ай бұрын
Why'd you get rid of the brass? Just got this very rifle that he's reviewing. Smooth as can be. The pawn had the brass and your steel in 357 the only two 357s levers I've seen in a pawn shop in Henry/marlin/Winchesters. It was a tough choice and I went back between the two before I chose the brass, the main reason being the octagonal barrel. That Henry steel side gate felt really nice too, definitely more of a work horse and not as as classy as the brass, but I'd rather have the steel in the woods

I am new to lever-actions and bought a 20" Winchester in .357 a few months back. I know that more barrel length almost always means more velocity, but was not aware of how much more velocity the longer barrel gives this caliber until I shot one of my steel targets. Holy crap! I had to move back because it was basically no longer a handgun round but more of a rifle round. I was damaging the steel because it's not rated for rifle rounds, lol. I was using Underwood ammo and by my calculations, I think the bullet may have been getting close to 2,000 fps.

You can indeed get a 125 gr bullet .357 Magnum up around 2000 fps in a rifle length barrel. For perspective, that’s quite similar to the velocity of supersonic .300 Blackout in that same bullet weight. As Boge said, the .357 Mag cartridge is a whole different proposition in a long gun compared to a handgun. Yet you can also load a rifle like this up with mild .38 Special for plinking, introducing new shooters, or quiet vermin disposal. Makes a .357 lever gun super versatile and handy.

Absolutely love Henry. My sons first rifle was a 22lr Henry for his 12th birthday/jr high graduation present. Qe shot that thing all the time and he learned how tonbreakbit down and clean it. He wanted the fiber optic front sight so i installed it. He's not 23, playing his final year of D2 football while studying to be a vet. I don't see him much aside from football season. Needless to say, he still wants to shoot that Henry when he comes home to visit. Range days are important for a father son connection. I'm definitely installing a skinner peep sight as a surprise for his next visit

Speaking of hunting big game, I've read on ammo review pages (Grizzly and others) where people have taken elk with a .357magnum in the heavy load, 180gr and 200gr with lever gun. I guess why not? No one would question a .35 caliber rifle.

I've heard the 16in for 357/38 is the best length, since once you get to 18in & beyond the bullet actually slows down precipitously due to friction and lack of powder in a pistol cartridge..
@FMDad-dm5qo5 ай бұрын
Greatly depends on the load and propellant you’re using. A typical high-end .357 Mag load using a slow, long legged powder like H110 or 296 is not much different from a small-case rifle cartridge, and is certainly not going to decline “precipitously” in velocity from 16” to 20”. That said, I’d still prefer a 16” for simple handiness.
@EroticOnion235 ай бұрын
@@FMDad-dm5qo I mean, a bunch of people did tests and the 20in dropped like 200fps compared to the 16in so…

Apparently it's bronze+zinc, just polished to look like brass. Bronze alloy is much heavier than steel or brass (+ the octagonal barrel), it was used in old-school cannons like the 12lb-er Napoleons used by the Confederates...bronze doesn't rust like steel and should be more resistant to the elements.

that Henry revolver would be a lot better if it was made locking out Scofield Smith & Wesson top break I mean even if it could be double action still but just be top breaks that be awesome some kind of weird hybrid that kind of looks like a old west gun and but a modern gun too I don't I don't know about that and the brass is okay but hell for the money I want the brass hammer and a brass trigger too or I want it made like an old Schofield and it'll all be brass the whole thing bee brass plated will that be f****** awesome possum right there
@FMDad-dm5qo5 ай бұрын
Have never liked the brass receiver Henrys - looks toylike. But otherwise I really enjoy their centerfire lever rifles. Give me the low-key black/blued receiver or, better yet, the All Weather finish.
@thehillbillygamer21832 ай бұрын
they look too modern they should have made them you know single Colt single action or even you know old Schofield top break
