Always was a follower of Gun Blast with detailed demonstration of each firearm with history. We own 6 of these rifles and hunt with .350 Legend having taken several deer with single shot, dropping where hit. The same results with .357 rifle shots between 85 and 120 yards. All animals dropped where hit in high shoulder 180 gr XTP and 180 Gr. Black Talon. As I reiterate always great testing complete with history and In the case Henry’s Rock!!!

I bought this rifle shortly after they came out in 223/5.56 NATO, had to wait about six months for it to come in, it is in the steel frame. It was recalled about a year ago as some possibly had a defect that could allow the hammer to fall without trigger pull. Henry sent me a shipping box prepaid, made the repair and sent it back to me. It is a very nice rifle, simple in design and function with not much to go wrong.

Nice, I want one. I sure do wish Henry would add the 45LC to their single shot line-up. That would be a handy companion to a single action revolver chambered in 45LC. God bless, Rob

Never really had much interest in single shot rifles but lately due to numerous hunting restrictions, straight walled cartridges and the like, I'm taking a liking to them.
@RequisiteFunction4 ай бұрын
My personal opinion, break open singles seem expensive for what they are. It's not that I wouldn't spend $600 on a gun. I just don't want to spend $600 on a gun that looks and works like a polished $200 gun. If this thing was $350, I'd have already bought one. For under $200, you can put an 18" .357-chambered sub-cal sleeve into an old break-action 12g or 20g shotgun. This allows you to shoot .38, .357, and whatever shells the shotgun was originally chambered in. You could put two of those inserts in a double barrel shotgun, and have a cheap double rifle for less than the price of a new Henry single shot rifle. A falling block, like the Ruger #1, makes for a much nicer single-shot rifle, if you can get your hands on one. One of the advantages to the falling block is not swinging the scope around while loading, and less overall room required for loading. Falling blocks are more expensive, but their actions are ridiculously strong. But they'd never be confused with a 1970s 12g single-shot from Sears.

Single shot rifles and shotguns are my favorite long guns especially for how easy they are to use and to clean and how they seldom malfunction

Reloaders can finesse .38 Special rifle loads to make them pretty quiet. The recipe amounts to: heavy for caliber, lead bullets, with smallish charges of fast burning pistol powder. Ed Harris has an article discussing this. I have had the best luck with soft bullet lubes in this caliber.

You did not mention what I think is the best thing about single shots guns and that is They are quiet to load and unload. Very important while deer hunting I think. Thanks

LOVE that arrangement of "Battle Cry Of Freedom!" Oh, an the review and the rifle's not bad either! Nothing I can add except back in the Trapdoor Springfield days US Army personnel did exactly what you suggested be done wiht this rifle for rapid shots, the soldiers held several cartridges between the fingers of their supporting hands. I did that several times with a .50-70 trapdoor and it works once you get the "rythym," although since those were handloads I didn't want to blow through 'em TOO fast! Thanks for posting!

That is a handy rifle for anyone who has some acreage. I like the extractor so you don't have to chase the empty or get hit in the nose with a hot brass. Probably about 90 percent of the time something like this would be a go to rifle because of the flexibility of different ammo available. Pop in some snake shot for danger noodles, or a slow wadcutter for small varmints, or jacket for deer. Nice review as always. Thank you and keep them coming

Since there's no magazine to worry about chain fires or cylinder to worry about overall length some pointy 358 bullets can be swaged down and hand loaded for some really special ammo... Something like a Barnes TSX tipped 180gr should get a little more speed, range, and accuracy. Just be sure to keep them away from tubular magazines. 😉

You bought a brand new rifle and cut it down? To each their own. But I have to wonder if it isn't much cheaper to just get an old Stevens 107b or Savage 94 shotgun, and have it fitted with the 16", .357 barrel insert. You'd have a .357 rifle, but still have a shotgun. This reciever is basically a clone of the ambidextrous-toggle-tang Stevens model. I see those guns all the time at gun shows. They're usually cheaper than the HRs. Even tho the HR is not as good as the old Stevens platform, it has a more recent following than the Stevens.

I like that the make ones in 357 mag and 44 mag, but they really should make one in 300 blk. Yes, I know they make ones in other calibers like 350 Legend, 360 Buckhammer, 450 Bushmaster and many of the other more common calibers like 308 win and 223 rem, but for whatever reason they don't make one in 300 blk. H&R used to make a single shot in 300 blk with a 16" barrel. I bet they could sell a lot if they sold something like that with a threaded barrel and iron sights.

@Prepare2Survive4 ай бұрын
@@Darthdoodoo "swellrod" ?? What's that supposed to mean? Are you trying to say 300 blk is a pointless caliber compared to the others offered in the Henry single shot?As an ammo handloader 300 blk has a lot of advantages. If you don't handload your own ammo then you're probably better off with something else. When handloading 300 blk you have a much wider selection of 30 cal projectiles to choose from. Anything from 90 grain up to 230 grain. Plus you also can easily use cheap homemade cast lead bullets because the velocity is under 2300 fps and you have access to free brass at any public range in the form of 223/556 brass that's easy to convert into 300 blk brass and the gun powders used are easier and cheaper to find. Not to mention the AR platform compatibility with just a barrel swap and being a great caliber to suppress making hearing protection less important.
