Man!! You're a genius. I don't own a Kia, but I'm sure someone will benefit from this most informative video.

Thank you for posting this video. Initially, I had a difficult time getting the airbag off because I did not understand the mechanism. You explained and showed it well. I used your instruction to remove airbag and then go further to remove the clock spring. Thanks a bunch!!

Same thing just happened on my Optima on BOTH sides at the same time, not sure why, they do not seem connected, but before I found this video, I did notice the broken plastic that holds switches in place. I found a complete replacement assembly on line, but if it can be fixed like you did, why not save $40. Thanks for this much needed video. My Optima is a 2012, but same exact steering wheel. And yes, it’s been an awesome car, bought it new. Once factory tires went bald by 28k miles, high quality replacements made it quieter and a little more sporty handling. It certainly is not a sports car, but it’s been very reliable, any problems I have had have involved trim items, like these buttons, and clear coat starting to peel just a little in a few minor spots just after warranty ended. Not a single mechanical issue. Still love the car.

I added a little piece of ridged foam behind the switch for added reinforcement. Thanks for the great video!!!!

So my 2013 Kia optima EX had the same issue with most of the control buttons on the steering wheel not functioning properly including the horn.. i remember when at one point my horn was working fine then it started to fade away each use until it completely gave out.. I recently replaced each and every fuse.. that didnt fix it. Now i probably have to replace the horn relay to see if it's that if not then i might just go ahead and buy the clock spring.. I'll definitely be coming back to this video and hopefully I wont have trouble finding the fix to the controls and horn!

Did you get an airbag light on the dash after you did this? I did my girlfriends and she just told me the airbag light is on.

Well done on the repair. The third wire is for grounding the horn circuit. There is a mystery surrounding the air bags. With care as you have done enables the removal and installation without setting it off. Should you set it off it will go BANG, but you are used to noises like that with the guns. I do enjoy all the gun clips you put up. Cheers from NZ.

I had to rebuild the tilt steering column on my 77’ C10 square body and it was by far the most difficult thing, mechanically speaking that I have ever done. I completely rebuilt an iPhone once and that was still easier.

Thanks for this video. I have the same issue on my 2013 SX-L, but on the opposite side. Now I can easily fix it and get rid of this POS automobile once and for all. Nothing but nagging little problems like this since I've owned it. Also, more recalls on this car than all other vehicles I've owned combined

Nice to see a do it yourself job. Though I can't imagine the hassle it would be to try and get a replacement part. Always need to be able to improvise and adapt.

I stumbled on this video by a coincidense when scrolling through your gun related videos. I have a different car, a Renault Clio and god knows you need a good portion of elbow grease and a sixth sense when it comes to finding good DIY videos to keep that excuse for a car rolling.. Of all the DIY vids I have seen for the Clio, no one beats this one for crisp, clear and easily understandable information necessary to pull the work off. You haven't thought of work as an editor for Haynes? :-)

Would you happen to know how to remove the air bag for 2016, 4th gen model? It only has one hole for the bottom push pin, but not the other two.

Gunblue 490, please do a video of your opinion of carrying a pistol for protection with a round in the chamber and not having one loaded. I have a concealed permit and carry a weapon to be prepared for the day it is needed (hopefully never). It is my believe that not having a round in the chamber is safer. I carry my pistol daily and not having a round ready to fire will never have the chance of going off accidently. The way that I carry has my pistol pointing in the area of my femoral artery and if it were to go off the results would be critical. It is a trade off of not being able to pull my gun out and shoot instantly. I don't live in a war zone and the time it takes to make my pistol ready would take a second longer I feel that my decision is a good one. I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks

Has anyone had a clunking noise coming from steering wheel when turning in your Kia?
@GunBlue4905 жыл бұрын
You should never hear a clunking noise. That's a serious issue that could lock up or fail some day and get you into an accident. Have it checked by KIA.
@abelgamino4 жыл бұрын
Yes. I have. There’s videos on how to repair it yourself but it is A LOT of work. I had this happen to me on my Kia. There was a notice on it so Kia fixed it for free.

What's the sectional density of the airbag when it hits your face? Ha Just kidding. Are air bags boat tailed? Ha Can't help it. I'll be 69 on Monday and I have to kid someone else now as I've kidded myself too long.

Matt Not nearly as strongly (I have many years experience with cyanoacrilate glues of all kinds... it's one of the best fingerprint lifters for detectives, too), and a single drip into the buttons would not be good.

I need to replace the clock spring in my fiancees 2013 kia optima hybrid. Her steering wheel configuration looks identical to yours. One question, I would have to completely remove the steering wheel to get to the clockspring correct? By undoing the large center nut holding the steering wheel on? Thankfully i found this video, I feel 100x more confident going into my clock spring fix now. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!.

did you manage to replace the clock spring? tips to share? any major problems I should be aware of before diving into it? Thanks
