Glad to listen to this magnificent ghazal -- originally sung by the great Mehdi Hassan Saab so soulfully -- now in the voice of Ma'am Pratibha Singh Baghel all over again for the very first time ! I happened to listen to the original sung by the great Mehdi Hassan Saab time without numbers ! That was an altogether different experience owing to his magical voice and inimitable style of gayiki ! I have a humble advice to Ma'am Pratibha Singh Baghel, as l have already done a couple of times before ! She has beautiful voice quality, coupled with clarity of pronunciation, depth and range, which is eminently suitable for ghazal gayiki ! I have a very firm and profound belief that with a little effort, she can be able to develop a style of her own ! Therefore, there is no absolute need to copy the style of gayiki of the likes of Ma'am Farida Khanum, Ma'am NoorJehan, Ashajee, or the great Mehdi Hassan Saab, to name afew ! Because, copycats don't last long ! After the sad demise of the great Muhammad Rafi Saab, scores of singers had tried to emulate him but to no avail and all such attempts have ended in fiasco ! Perhaps, the names of Abdul Aziz, Shabbir Kumar, and Anwar, to name a few, are still fresh in public memory ! To be very true, there is no shortcut to success ! The great Muhammad Rafi Saab had scaled the Height Of Excellence through sheer hard work, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to his 'FON' (ART) ! How right was someone in his assessment in saying-- " It's always better to live one's own life imperfectly than to become a perfect copy of someone else !" Thankful to Mesmerizing Melodies for having provided this opportunity ! -- Amarendra Borah, Former Commissioner and Secretary, Finance Department, Govt of Assam (India).
