Unlike Seed, Age is a product of mismanagement and people who didn't know what they were doing. One reason why it was rushed was it's writer, Akihiro Hiro, was more used to writing Video Games instead of Anime, so he paced the scenes as if they were Video Game cutscenes. With Memory of Eden, he learned that writing Game cutscenes is different from writing Anime and the results show.

Also Level-5 is predominantly about making stuff like Professor Layton and Yokai Watch. Their last attempt at a more serious narrative before Gundam AGE was White Knight Chronicles. You know, the games where the main character becomes the final boss because he forgets how to count and is generally a bigger dumbass than Kio.

Cosmic era is also a product of mismanagement as well, especially SEED Destiny because it involves jealousy inolving the director and his wife and of course, budget issues.

Bit of trivia about the PSP Age games: The director of the anime, Akihiro Hino is also the head of Level-5 (Yo-kai Watch games), and was initially brought on to make a Gundam game. The script he drafted is what became Age while the games were then being produced. The anime did technically come first but the games released before it was over, so it's understandable to see the anime as an adaptation of the games and not the other way around. Which, considering how the game does more to flesh out the lore and setting... yeah it's an understandable view to have. Almost kinda sad the only way to play these games is via Emulator, since they're not poor PSP RPGs.

Level-5 recently did something similar with the release of Megaton Musashi, though with a shorter release turn around of a month. But ye, game released by the time of the end of the third arc. That said, game likely was in internal beta when the anime started. I have a whole redstring corkboard web of AGE management & marketing fuckups to bring up when we get to a lull point in these episodes, don't worry lol. -Smug

Gundam Age has good suit designs, the model kits paved the way a bit for modern 1/144 HG kits from Bandai. Liked the learning computer or Age system creating another variant to use against the new grunt bad guy. I really liked Asemu Asuno not being Age’s Newtype, just a really good ace pilot. Age 2 Gundam is an amazing design and redesign when it appears later in the series is good too.

The AGE series had a potential but was ruined due to being cramped into a 50 episode series. Instead, it should have 25 episodes each for each generation of the protagonist. Such a wasted potential.

Ages first part was bland, but servicable. Part 2 was what the whole series should've been about, it is the best written part of Age. 3 starts out strong, but they chicken out on every ballsy decision they seemed to build up. Part 4 is a dissapointing mess beyond believe. If the finale needs you make extra homework on side-stuff material to understand new characters and items suddenly entering the picture, you screwed up as an author. also: The Gundam Age-3 is one of my favorite main-line Gundams of all time. This is a beauty of a mobil-suit. I still want the Mastergrade for it Bandai

AGE-1 4/10. Points for the grunt suits that had the possibility of highly customizable options and a carrier with sideways catapults. None of which utilized. AGE-2. 8/10. A much better plot with a normal human striving to outpace the not-newtypes and prove himself to his father with sheer determination and grit. AGE-3. 2/10. Flatter than week old soda. At least the animation was competent. Ebony mobile suits were stupid. AGE-4. X/10. Did not watch. 3 killed my interest. I do have a Gunpla of the main suit though.

Kio (from AGE generation 3) was far worse than Kira & Shinn. Unlike Kira, he complained to his allies to not kill enemies *mid-battle* making them confused. At least Kira never forced his allies to not kill during battles. He even let Athrun & co. kill enemies left & right when necessary coz it's a freakin' war.

So there's actually something more important that you kinda missed, the overall setting and world building, and I'm only gonna list a few of the problems here The UE has not only not lost a single battle, but implied to not even had any casualties until Ep1, for 14 years, yet they have not conquered the entire Earth and colonies by now Flit is 14, and he got his Age device when he was 7 when his mom died, which means his family did nothing with it for a whole 7 years while there was an invasion happening There are definitely more problems but that will make this comment too long, so I'm just gonna stop here

I am so mixed on Gundam AGE The Flit Asuno arc was good The Assemu arc was actually pretty compelling The Kio arc was good but got better towards the end The final 10 episodes were pretty great, excluding Kio's unrealistic way of thinking Assemu during the Kio arc was EASILY the best character with EASILY the best Gundam in the show I just can't get fully invested in the Vagan mobile suits in terms of design. I was hoping to like them as much as the Titans MS, but they're all so meh The only vagan mobile suits that I like above the others are Gundam Legillis Vagan Gear Zedas R Zeydra Farsia

The thing about the games vs anime is weird cause the games were developed first but the show came out a year before the games and the games never finished the age story while the anime did. the games at least added more context and story to the parts of age they covered
