Great content and great points. I've done some counter ambush drills with my police unit overseas. The best and really only survivable options were, drive through or drive back. We then did some shoot your way out drills and after being peppered with MMR repeatedly in both the driver and passenger seat it became painfully obvious why we didn't spend the rest of the week practicing the drill. Blind luck and adversaries not pressing their advantage were exactly the only reasons we ever came out on top. Great content gents

I teach vehicle defense and I teach the same stuff. Don’t fight inside the vehicle. Because of the curve of the glass, the windshield will alter the flight path of your round. Shooting from inside out, there is a very likely chance a few rounds will be sent upward. So now your just sending rounds up into the abyss. A prosecutor will have a field day of one of those rounds comes down and hits someone.

Yeah Mike summarized this great, if anything your first reaction should be drive away if that option is still open. Like Mike said you have the mobility then and also you can pick maybe where the fight happens then. If you don’t have an available escape route like an open shoulder or lane then yeah you probably need to get out of the vehicle and use your angles and cover. Really good video though!!!!

Awwww bro!!! Finally someone who tactfully calls B.S on the super cool blazing away from a stationary platform. He says luck gets you through Probabilities vs possibilities. You possibly win. Probability is you reside in the forever box. Thanks Mike! The Sicario analogy sums it up. Running the scenario through my head tells me without any doubt I want my ass mobile sending little bites of hate into the dude stuck inside the vehicle. I've had vcqb and always thought the fight from a stationary platform in a dynamic fight was bad juju. Some of the stuff about using the vehicle as cover/concealment was new to me and useful. Force on force w a vehicle minus glass would help put this nonsense to sleep.

To your point (seated in a vehicle you’re in a box and you’re screwed): notice how cops tend to park away from incidents in-progress, then walk up on foot? Yes, partly to not broadcast their arrival in a marked patrol car, but also to get out of that box and get mobile, spread out, improve situational awareness, utilize additional points of cover and concealment, etc. Good stuff 👍
@joshroten39972 жыл бұрын
And, in your demo - in that 1.5-2 seconds it takes to get your first shot off at the bad guy - that’s assuming his first 6+ rounds fired at you (in this example) don’t disable you and prevent you from even getting your first shot off. Plus, once you start exiting the vehicle you become a moving target which (hopefully) makes you a little harder to hit.

Interesting thought process. The best fight is the one you can avoid all together that being said ambush implies you have no previous idea it's coming so. So returning fire in order to force the aggressor to break contact shouldn't be attempted while moving to a position to engage or evade?
@cjtucker49442 жыл бұрын
I always thought of this but was never taught any different. Like I was taught, a vehicle is a bullet magnet, but yet I'm supposed to stay in a seated position, remaining stationary and shooting through glass. Just because something requires luck to be successful doesn’t mean it’s not worth training. One-man CQB requires a lot of luck to be successful, but I want to know how to do it in case I’m forced to use it in my own home. I feel the same with a car. Just because my odds are slim, doesn’t mean I don’t want to know how to maximize my admittedly small chances. Edit: having finished the video, I understand that the idea is that getting out of the car will almost invariably be better than fighting from the front seat.

Alright, I wan to make sure I am understanding this idea correctly. I need to get off the "X" as fast as I can so if I cant just gun the gas pedal I need to click the seat belt with my right hand and flick away from the belt. Left hand at the same time opens up my driver door and I dive to the rear of the vehicle. As I am exiting my right hand draws my pistol and start working angles keeping low to the threat. If they are on the same side of the vehicle I need to try to make distance and put the corner of the vehicle or another vehicle between me and the threat. If I just try to stand and fight I need to assume I will be taking about 1/3 to half their mag before I get off a single round and I would of already taken at least one round.

That IS the reality. When civilians get attacked while sitting in cars they are usually "ambushes". Same for knife attacks (usually when they are close enough already to reach out and touch us...too late to react offensively). "Tactical vehicle EVAC seninar weekends"---are essentially "fun GUNDAY's designed obviously for civilians so that it's FUN and "real enough (i.e. exciting)" so they can go home and brag to their non-gun friends at the weekend BBQ's what they did....when they want to "one up" .... Why would actual ex-Special Forces guy or SWAT bother to teach civilians the same tactics they were taught? THINK. Do they actually think Joe Civilian will actually stand a chance ALONE in a real life/death situation they've NEVER been in?? No "situational awareness" and distracted by everyday life (e.g. GF, kdis, car stereo with VOL up to the max...xoffee in one hand...etc.)... Naivete drives firearms sales and gets civilians into "weekend tactical training courses". LOL! :) GET REAL11 And the likely car EVAC scenario will be---civilian parallel parkd on busy street sandwiched between 2 vehicles, people walking up and down sidewalk...cars whizzing by driver's side. Driver's going nowhere...only by the "Grace of God" will it play out to the driver's favour. :)

Applying this to immediately taking rounds with no warning, absolutely he is correct. What I think is a more pressing situation for civilians is attempted carjackings or road rage where you are being ambushed but more a threat is approaching than randomly taking rounds. Obviously the best answer is to drive away but that is not always possible. So I think more people are concerned with making the threat disengage versus having to eliminate the threat as in a military or LEO situation. Everything is situational. I in no way say that shooting through glass from the seat should be your go to response, but if winning a gunfight for a civilian is not going to prison of the forever box, it may be something you have to fall back to. Just my very novice 2 cents
