Friends, this is the materialization of my childhood dreams. As a kid, I was always fascinated by shipwrecks, probably because of Jules Verne. I imagined beautiful, well-preserved ships at the bottom of the sea. When I was older, I realized that most of the wrecks on the bottom no longer resembled ships. But there are exceptions. But this is just beautiful. All that's missing is an open chest of gold next to the ship :) It's a very beautiful ship, and I urge divers to be humble and respectful of the site :) Thank you very much.

From this fascinating dive footage, One thing is patently obvious, The decay of vessels in salt water, is far quicker than in fresh water.

Absolutely spectacular probably the best wreck in the world ! To think it has been in the water as long as Titanic .. just goes to show the difference salt water and fresh water have on the vessel The teak and other hard English oak have been preserved in lovely cold temperatures it’s as if she sank yesterday ! The brass door knobs and the glass still in the lights . British shipbuilding can never be recreated it simply was outstanding .

Is it prohibited to touch objects like chair? I have seen every of them at place throughout time.

It wasn't a case of who found it. The location was easily known as it foundered as they tried to pull it off the reef and it slid down the reef face to the bottom. Classic case of more money than brains on the part of the owner. Beautiful ship that went before her time, BUT- she is preserved "as is" from 1911, instead of being run around for a decade and then scrapped. Thanks for the video!

I Can't Help But Mirror An Earlier Comment In That This Is Possibly The Best Wreck Of It's Age I've Ever Seen And I've Seen Quite a Few. As Beautifully Preserved As Gunilda Is And In That Regard She'll Probably Stay That Way For Another 100 Years, I Can't Help But Wonder If It Would Be Feasible To Lift Her And Make Her a Museum Piece With a Viewing Room All Of Her Own ? Seeing Her Preserved Coupled With Footage Like This After 100 Years Would Make Her Unique And a Great Draw For The Public. She's a Stunning Time Capsule And Worthy Of Greater Admiration.

Oddly enough, though the ships sinking seems like an awful waste, there's a good chance that nothing would be left of it today if it ran out the usual course in life. Probably would have made it to the 40s or 50s where possible conversion to an internal combustion engine of sorts would've been fitted. I'm guessing by the 70's it would've wound up rotting in a ship yard somewhere and partially scrapped for what could be salvaged. It seems to be preserved here and could last another 200 years or longer at this rate!

I'm curious, has anyone ever considered salvaging the vessel? Would it even be legal? I am one of those people the believe that if no life was lost, historical vessels should be salvaged and/or restored so as to allow better understanding of them.

i agree with you

Salvage can only be done by special permit from the State/Country where the wreck is. They wreck sites are are well known and are watched very closely. So basically, no, there will be no salvage, and treasure seeks will be subject to arrest and a steep fine.

Almost certainly not worth the expense if even they could. There are historic ships that are NOT underwater wrecks that really should be preserved (see, for instance, the SS United States) but owners are struggling to raise money just to keep up with maintenance costs.

Yes they tried many times mostly in the 70s and a bunch of people died trying. The diving technology wasnt what it is now. Its basically a grave.
@kgthompson58146 ай бұрын
They tried but the first divers down there kept dying. And they did take items off the ship. The original bell was taken and sold to a collector for 5 thousand dollars. And replaced with the bell you see in the video.

Is that an air pocket at 4:55?

I think it is! You wouldn't want to breathe that in though, air pockets can be dangerous.
