Also I only get headache at night and the sunset feature and flux I think is really for people like me. And I will agree that the default on flux is set to 3400K and looks like ass. I have it set to 5000K with normal temp on the monitor. With Flux if you have Cool or Warm color temp it will look really off. Gunners are ok but once set up right Flux works just fine for me.

Jay doesn't use F.lux cause he doesn't give any flux. Okay, seriously though. F.lux was not made to combat eye fatigue. It was made to have better sleep (because the excessive amount of blue light emitted from monitors messes up your Circadian rhythm.) That's why it (by default) only works at night. F.lux does not serve the same purpose as Gunnars.
@nvmffs7 жыл бұрын
That comment made no sense whatsoever... The excessive blue light doesn't just screw up your sleep but your eyesight too when in dark room. What do you think a warmer light means ? It means it's closer to the ambient light in your room which is most likely not a 6500K one. The closer your monitor light is to the ambient light, the better for your eyesight.
@gabe81685 жыл бұрын
@@nvmffs he said it only turns on at night, not that it didn't work. He was saying flux isn't ment for this guys problem because it doesn't block sources of blue light not coming from your computer, because it can't bend the laws of physics obviously

GameMechanic.tv Not trying to argue (hopefully someone reads this and it helps), but the idea behind these is to keep the layer of air in front of your eyes warm and moist, as when you look at a screen you tend to blink less and thus, dry your eyes out. The other thing of course is to reduce glare due to some coating (can't remember what it is exactly) that the outer layer of the lens has. Another review I read said that when given to an optometrist, they likened these to the equivalent of using eye-drops every hour (or maybe it was every half-hour, either way, you get the idea). Anyway, just some more info for you and others :)

8 жыл бұрын
Why is blue light bad?
@paytyler8 жыл бұрын
Biologically, we are designed to sleep in the dark and not in the day. This is controlled by the amount of blue light that out eyes are exposed to. Blue light literally sends your brain the stay awake signals. Certainly not a perfect science, but I would be interested if someone documented this really well and shared their results. I'll be smarter and better in the morning, it's late.

There we talk about colors, not smoothness of animation. This is another thing. Anyways, I agree, G-Sync monitors or 120/144hz helps a lot your eyes. At 60 FPS in some games I have eye strain, but newer games and old ones uses motion blur and this help to smooth out animations and trick your brain the objects in games really move.
@Mythricia198810 жыл бұрын
laurentiu d. I don't think we were suggesting it was the same phenomenon - but flicker-free backlight might at least be related to some degree. Thankfully most screens now are starting to implement that. Unfortunately I can't actually try Gunnars or anything equivalent - use prescription glasses, and can't really invest in new ones right now, so no way to make use of them...

I've had F.lux installed on my laptop for almost a year now, and I've had the app "Twilight" on my phone, which is basically F.lux for android. I can guarantee you that it hurts my eyes. Still a lot. So I've decided to get a pair of Gunnars and see how that goes. *If I remember,* I'll update this post. Oh, and before you question it: My brightness is at 25%, and F.lux is at 3308K on my laptop and 1666K on my phone. (Still getting eye strain/burns/whateveryouwannacallthem)
@KeshawKishan8 жыл бұрын
updates?
@gunitakon8 жыл бұрын
+Keshaw Kishan yes, here goes: I tried changing my f.lux settings to lower the color settings to 1400K to see if that would help, and it didn't. So I got my pair of Gunnar Microns, after using them for two weeks, I saw a lot of change. My eyelids were constantly moist, as a sign of the design that Gunnars talks about that it keeps it humid so your eyes don't dry out. And that was a very important factor to me, because I forgot to blink. I had no headaches just by being in front of my monitor, however I did start to get headaches when wearing headphones, because the Micron glasses are very tight and pressed against your head. So I decided to return the Micron, and got myself a pair of Vayper, now I don't get any kind of headaches, not from my eyes, or from using headphones and the glasses. I love the inch of magnification it comes with, it makes everything clearer to see as it lowers contrast, and the amber tint really isn't that much of a problem, plus, the tint is even less noticeable than if you had f.lux. Overall, I'm loving it, and I use it not only at my desk, but also in bed when reading, and when using my phone.
@gunitakon8 жыл бұрын
+Keshaw Kishan also, forgot to mention, I don't get bloodshot eyes, nor do my eyes burn. And before, whenever my eyes would burn, I'd squeeze my eyes shut, and tear would come out, but now whenever I squeeze my eyes shut, no tear comes out because it's not dry and it doesn't burn.

Chris Coddington i got a new monitor with blue light reduction and its night and day :) work and game pretty much all day on a monitor so, i wont be skimping on blue light reduction for my next monior :) oh and i told a friend to get lenses with UV protection etc etc and his head aches improved within one week, i dont get why people skimp on eye care tbh :)

I own a pair and I can say that not only do they work for Eye strains, but I usually get migraines and this helps alleviate and makes it all the more comfortable continuing to look at screens (especially in low light settings). They're quite the investment, but worth it if you have multiple screens and staring at them all day.

As a console gamer, I bought a pair of Gunnar's (as I had heard about them a few years back), and they are incredible. The yellow tint fades after a few minutes and they help focus and sit longer for play sessions. I would suggest them to anyone who asks.

Great vid Jay, entertaining and informative. As a Gunnar user for about 3 years I'm like you, can't live without them. I work in graphics & photography so I have the Crystaline series for maintaining color correctness and they without a doubt help reduce the eye strain. Liked them so much I also bought a pair of the MLG series for gaming. Keep up the good work.

I've been using Gunnar Optics for about 6 months and I have 3 different pairs ( RPK, Pro, and Anime versions). I totally agree with Jay, this sht WORKS omg I love them....... The only problem for most people is the price.....yeah it gets kinda ridiculous. But I don't mind spending the money.

Copper, orange, yellow/amber and brown lens tints make an environment appear brighter and are commonly used in low-light conditions. These lens tints block blue light and enhance contrast and depth perception making them helpful for overcast, hazy and foggy conditions. Blue light, with its shorter wavelength, scatters easier than other colors and makes focusing more difficult. Removing blue light therefore improves sharpness and depth perception and reduces fatigue. However, these lens tints do cause some degree of color distortion, though brown/bronze lenses do so considerably less than do yellow/amber or orange lenses. This has been common knowledge among the shooting community for quite some time.

I used f.lux for a long time. And I liked it. I use it only at sunset/night. At sunrise/day my screen is on eco mode and it doesn't hurt my eyes. Anyways, I disable f.lux or set my monitor on normal mode when I play games or when I do color sensitive work like editing a photo or make an animation/video, things like these. But these glasses, hmm, I should try them, but are expensive in my country :( Anyways, Jayz, good video like every video you upload ;) Keep up!

I'M GOING TO TALK WITHOUT WATCHING THE VIDEO!! I tried the clear/crystalline glasses because I didn't want the color change. I did like the little bit of magnification on top of my contacts but there would still be glares. But! I would recommend them because they do hold terrific resale value and I had them sold on eBay in a day.

Gunnars work for me. I always refocus my eyes after a few hours looking at a screen and since I started using them my eyes refocused quicker. They're expensive, but in my opinion worth it.
@Bandersnatch7866 жыл бұрын
To anyone who doubts that these work, I have been using the PPKs since 2013. A $50 purchase has saved me $1400 in new prescription glasses every year because I don't continuously cause damage to my eyes. They have lasted me 5 years and are quite durable if you use them as intended and don't abuse them. The advantage to a pair of glasses vs something like flux is that flux will only affect how you see your computer monitor. Glasses will help with eye strain caused by fluorescent lighting because they cover your eyes. That's where the biggest difference is made.

I also had a huge problem with my eyes and I really struggled of trying to find solutions. After a long time, visiting doctors and eyespecialists and they all came to one conclusion, there is nothing wrong with my eyes. I didn't know what to do then I gave gunnar optics a try. My eye problems vanished! They really worked!

There have been few purchases I have made which have given me the quality of life upgrade that Gunnar glasses did when I got them. My only gripe with them is that I nicked the lenses even though I've only been using microfiber to clean it. It has been a minor thing, but I notice the imperfection in my right eye every now and then. Besides possible weakness in that, the magnesium frame build quality is excellent and I cannot stress enough how instantly it had made my eyes feel better. 18 months of using them and I have absolutely no regrets. My monitors at home, my monitors at work, my tablet on the go, my smartphone so much light strain that I only wish I'd bought a pair sooner in life.
@Player_Review9 жыл бұрын
Alaan Franklin Microfiber can indeed scratch the anti-reflective coating on these glasses. This is why they say to only use the bag the glasses come in to clean the lenses. Sorry to hear about the scratch though, that must be fairly annoying to live with.

@@Ashh9 just odd how literally every review says the exact same thing, they all start the same and end the same. "I'm not paid, my eyes hurt, with these glasses my eyes don't hurt, buy them if you think you want them idk" it's like that's the script. I'm not in any way bashing them, I've tried them on and off and I feel no difference between using them and not. I tried to be a believer for months, and probably will continue to use mine, but honestly probably should have thrown that money into dogecoin instead.

I am confused, he says that f.lux makes the screen look bad, but doesn't the glasses do precisely the same? Both change the temperature of the light coming to your eyes. I get the reason he doesn't use f.lux of course, but i just don't understand that argument about the color change, am i missing something?
@itsWagZ988 жыл бұрын
+Fjärilsmannen f.lux has a orangier/annoying type yellow where the gunnars kind of just blend in IMO. Ive used both
