I watched it and I do agree that gunner works. But I still use flux. It works for me I use just two machines all day. Also I only get headache at night and the sunset feature and flux I think is really for people like me. And I will agree that the default on flux is set to 3400K and looks like ass. I have it set to 5000K with normal temp on the monitor. With Flux if you have Cool or Warm color temp it will look really off. Gunners are ok but once set up right Flux works just fine for me.

Here is a tip, you can walk into any vision center (optometrist) and order any pair of glasses (frames) with 'gun yellow' lenses. You can get them with or without prescription lenses, so no need to be limited to Gunners style or sizes.

Jay doesn't use F.lux cause he doesn't give any flux. Okay, seriously though. F.lux was not made to combat eye fatigue. It was made to have better sleep (because the excessive amount of blue light emitted from monitors messes up your Circadian rhythm.) That's why it (by default) only works at night. F.lux does not serve the same purpose as Gunnars.
@nvmffs
@nvmffs 6 жыл бұрын
That comment made no sense whatsoever... The excessive blue light doesn't just screw up your sleep but your eyesight too when in dark room. What do you think a warmer light means ? It means it's closer to the ambient light in your room which is most likely not a 6500K one. The closer your monitor light is to the ambient light, the better for your eyesight.
@gabe8168
@gabe8168 4 жыл бұрын
@@nvmffs he said it only turns on at night, not that it didn't work. He was saying flux isn't ment for this guys problem because it doesn't block sources of blue light not coming from your computer, because it can't bend the laws of physics obviously

@@gabe8168 You can set it up any way you want. It can be on 24/7 if you like. What different sources of blue light do you mean exactly? Keep in mind we do need some blue light in the daytime to function properly.

There we talk about colors, not smoothness of animation. This is another thing. Anyways, I agree, G-Sync monitors or 120/144hz helps a lot your eyes. At 60 FPS in some games I have eye strain, but newer games and old ones uses motion blur and this help to smooth out animations and trick your brain the objects in games really move.
@Mythricia1988
@Mythricia1988 9 жыл бұрын
laurentiu d. I don't think we were suggesting it was the same phenomenon - but flicker-free backlight might at least be related to some degree. Thankfully most screens now are starting to implement that. Unfortunately I can't actually try Gunnars or anything equivalent - use prescription glasses, and can't really invest in new ones right now, so no way to make use of them...

GameMechanic.tv Not trying to argue (hopefully someone reads this and it helps), but the idea behind these is to keep the layer of air in front of your eyes warm and moist, as when you look at a screen you tend to blink less and thus, dry your eyes out. The other thing of course is to reduce glare due to some coating (can't remember what it is exactly) that the outer layer of the lens has. Another review I read said that when given to an optometrist, they likened these to the equivalent of using eye-drops every hour (or maybe it was every half-hour, either way, you get the idea). Anyway, just some more info for you and others :)

people saying just to download flux and i will give my OPINION 1) after 1 week of not using a computer and my eyes not strained at all i used my computer for a day, eyes didnt hurt, got a little sick (not because of computer), my head hurt, and then my eyes started to hurt because i started to use my computer so i got flux and it made it 10 times worse. 2) flux has a way different color to it. 3) gunnars have a small magnification to them and other very small things only noticeable in the long run. 4) i game for long periods of time in fullscreen to get 144hz (if its not fullscreen it doesnt work) and flux doesnt work in fullscreen

I read/heard that these glasses help with sleep as they filter out blue light. Anybody have a good method of testing this?
@paytyler
@paytyler 7 жыл бұрын
Biologically, we are designed to sleep in the dark and not in the day. This is controlled by the amount of blue light that out eyes are exposed to. Blue light literally sends your brain the stay awake signals. Certainly not a perfect science, but I would be interested if someone documented this really well and shared their results. I'll be smarter and better in the morning, it's late.

I own a pair and I can say that not only do they work for Eye strains, but I usually get migraines and this helps alleviate and makes it all the more comfortable continuing to look at screens (especially in low light settings). They're quite the investment, but worth it if you have multiple screens and staring at them all day.

I've had F.lux installed on my laptop for almost a year now, and I've had the app "Twilight" on my phone, which is basically F.lux for android. I can guarantee you that it hurts my eyes. Still a lot. So I've decided to get a pair of Gunnars and see how that goes. *If I remember,* I'll update this post. Oh, and before you question it: My brightness is at 25%, and F.lux is at 3308K on my laptop and 1666K on my phone. (Still getting eye strain/burns/whateveryouwannacallthem)
@KeshawKishan

@gunitakon
@gunitakon 8 жыл бұрын
+Keshaw Kishan yes, here goes: I tried changing my f.lux settings to lower the color settings to 1400K to see if that would help, and it didn't. So I got my pair of Gunnar Microns, after using them for two weeks, I saw a lot of change. My eyelids were constantly moist, as a sign of the design that Gunnars talks about that it keeps it humid so your eyes don't dry out. And that was a very important factor to me, because I forgot to blink. I had no headaches just by being in front of my monitor, however I did start to get headaches when wearing headphones, because the Micron glasses are very tight and pressed against your head. So I decided to return the Micron, and got myself a pair of Vayper, now I don't get any kind of headaches, not from my eyes, or from using headphones and the glasses. I love the inch of magnification it comes with, it makes everything clearer to see as it lowers contrast, and the amber tint really isn't that much of a problem, plus, the tint is even less noticeable than if you had f.lux. Overall, I'm loving it, and I use it not only at my desk, but also in bed when reading, and when using my phone.
@gunitakon
@gunitakon 8 жыл бұрын
+Keshaw Kishan also, forgot to mention, I don't get bloodshot eyes, nor do my eyes burn. And before, whenever my eyes would burn, I'd squeeze my eyes shut, and tear would come out, but now whenever I squeeze my eyes shut, no tear comes out because it's not dry and it doesn't burn.

For every color sensitive work, just don't use any glasses or filtres like f.lux. Photoshop and in general editing software have a black interface and it don't hurt your eyes.

@Vaan1984
@Vaan1984 7 жыл бұрын
Alinutz Alin it took about half an hour. the hardest time comes after the operation, where youve to keep your eyes closed for about 6 hours without sleeping for the healing process ^^ there are different types of laser-operations. i used lasik. its pretty impressive how good i can see now. never expected it to be so good. the only problem is a sometimes small corona of light around lightsources at night - called halos. but need to go to the followup examination next year first to see if something can be done about it. but if they cant do something about it its just a tiny error i think. im pretty happy :)

fwiw, I did buy a pair. I used them for about two weeks. After two weeks I found I still had some issues. I got my eyes checked to find that one eye is weaker than the other. I ended up getting a prescription and got lenses with blue light filters.

Everyone realizes these are just 'blue-blockers,' i.e., lenses that block the blue part of the visible spectrum, right? Hunters and competitive shooters of weapons have been using these for many years.
@Mythricia1988

If people can read, they would realize that. Gunnar says it right on their site. doesn't change the fact they work though, and seem cheaper than hunting/competition equipent, which is usually massively overpriced.

Got a pair for working on watches. They're the crystalline version so they don't filter out nearly as much cool light but they hold my loupe and the optical properties of the lenses make it so my eyes aren't screwed up by the end of the day from looking at things up close. Highly recommended for watchmakers ^^

SirTerning Blue blockers have been around since the 70s! Why sell them as a computer exclusive product and a novelty? That's my point. The same happens with chairs. We got gaming chairs nowadays. Why? Have our confort needs increased now that we game? I've been sitting in front of computers for hours for 3 decades now and all I've ever needed for that is normal confortable chairs. That's what I was saying. What's next, computer oriented shoes?

palonazo Oh sorry, I must have misread you. I don't know though, maybe there is a market for it? and some people feel like 'exploiting' it with stupid gamer marketing? Gunnar is not so extreme in the way they market the glasses and actually have a fair bit of useful information on their site to.

SirTerning Well, he should have said: Here, here are some glasses which aren't a new thing. They cost more than when sold as what they are and have been for the last 40 years. They work just as well as they did when the first Indiana Jones movie was being filmed.

Gunnars are not the best option when it comes to eye protection from computer screens... There is a company called MLG,they are based in California and they make the so called "Noscope" glasses.They are quite a bit more stylish with their wider range of designs,they offer a 1337 days warranty which is alot more than what Gunnars offer and they also cost less*Just a single picture of your mother*. I think this makes them a better choice in general !

Nakahish I think perhaps it heavily relies on running the program properly (haven't tried it as yet) but he is correct that in his situation a software solution simply isn't practical, seeing as it is his livelihood, $100 or so would have to be considered a worthwhile investment.

I bought a pair or gunner optics a few weeks ago, when I would play games on my pc I would be inches away from my monitor, now with these glasses I actually sit back away from it. I was suprise how well they work and how much clearer everything is! I got the gunner carbon snipers, got them at best buy only because the guy said if they don't work for you, you have 14 days to return them. well I won't be returning them ever! I won't use my pc or my ps4 without them. I'm extremely impressed and pleased.
