You have Crohn's. You're a surgeon. You're a surgeon and you have Crohn's. You were diagnosed before being a surgeon. It is therefore physically possible ( in this scenario , you're in the states and shifts are a maximum of 24 hours? But since it's surgery and one can't control that they can turn into 32 hour shifts right?) To be a patient and a doctor and become a surgeon. YOU are the reason I am 100% sure I can cope with a few more years of harshness during the regular Mexican 36 hr shifts with 2-3 hrs sleep and a 85-90ish hour a week at the hospital plus studying at home. Dude you went thru PREMED and MEDschool AND the residency. We don't even do premed here, we spare those years. You achieved what I doubted could be achieved. There is NOTHING , nothing that could make me calmer, more confident and happier than knowing that regardless, with or without flares and aches and medications, you've achieved SO FREAKING MUCH, and I cannot thank you enough for being an inspiration. Every time I doubt myself , every time I'm aching a bit, I think hey he did it, he set the example, I'll do it too, no excuses. My disease STOPPED being an excuse because of you. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Gracias muchas gracias Kevin

Offensive jokes in the OR sounds like one of the many ways surgery maintains cultural barriers that keep bipoc and women feeling alienated in the field. and im saying this as a woc interested in plastic surgery who has spoken to woc residents and attendings in plastics. what you dismiss as a small minority being mad on social media is actually a bigger issue than you may realize. :/

There were women of color in my residency program. They were just surgeons too and had a similar mindset
@sandychan93674 жыл бұрын
They had to pretend to have a similar mindset to try to fit in. As a woc who switched from ENT to Derm (best decision ever - thank goodness for ivies and top gpa/MCAT/USMLEs), I remember how male residents would try to outdo each other in those infamous jokes. I know how much effort it took to get those high scores and for me, it would have made no sense to walk away from medicine. To each his or her own!

I think the issue with praising incredibly wealthy people is that we don’t actually know what’s behind their wealth. Elon Musk comes from a wealthy family, I think that’s hugely responsible for his continued wealth. Take trump, trump came from a wealthy family and had a lot of propaganda(books and media coverage) conveyed about his brilliance as a business person. Rich people have the ability to get propaganda stories about their rise and how it was all caused by their individual brilliance and dedication to hard work and belief in themselves. Then their wealth is used as justification for promoting this propaganda, and justification for the bad behavior as it gets excused as no one is perfect and everyone has flaws.
