Lyrically, Breakdown is a masterpiece! Axl Rose was/is more than just a hard rocker.

What a great song. They released two albums on the same day and they were #1 and #2 on the Billboard charts. I remember standing in line waiting for the record store to open the door to let the crowd in. Great memories. Agree a bit about the chorus but “funny how everything was Roses when we held on to the Guns” is such a great line too.

I only had enough money to buy one on the day it came out, so I chose UYI II, mainly because I already knew Civil War and You Could Be Mine.

Another great song. UUI albums were great if a bit bloated. A single disc would have been an all-time classic. I'd have gone with: Right Next Door To Hell - November Rain - You Could Be Mine - Live and Let Die - Locomotive - Civil War - Don't Cry - Don't Damn Me - Breakdown - Perfect Crime - Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Estranged - Garden Of Eden - Coma (With The Garden just missing out to Live and Let Die, not because it's weaker, but because the other is more catchy)

You know what I love about guns? I've been a fan since before welcome to the jungle was even on MTV and so many songs have been my go-to song and different periods in my life.. breakdown have been out for over 20 years before it took its turn... Seriously there have been so many songs that have been my favorite guns and roses song at the moment. That said Estranged has never fell out of the top five so it is my favorite song of all time

I like how your reacting to the songs in between albums and not all the typical songs which are still great! Your right this song has gotten me and many of my friends through many a parties! That was one of them that started my guns journey for life. Does Jr. even know about locomotive? Right next door to hell? Or even Velvet Revolver? I wish more people would react to some Velvet Revolver album tunes. Some songs of theirs are better heard on album version rather than concert. Saying that there is many kick ass live tunes as well. Sometimes no matter how much you love the band album versions over live versions unfortunately is the way to go. Im sure its like that for any band sometimes album trumps live! Shit! don't get me wrong concerts are fucking amazing! Double talkin jive live in Tokyo!

He doesnt know most of their stuff, other than the Chinese Democracy album, because it came out when he was young and I had it on constant repeat. I have video of him playing Shacklers Revenge on Rock Band and singing along to Better somewhere. We're scratching the UYI surface right now, but we'll get to all the good ones and Appetite as well. And we will definitely get to Velvet Revolver, though he likely knows Slither as my band covers it. -RG

I always looked at this song as the band breaking up. This lyric makes it sound like something you would simply say or think of an ex lover: “if I call you out of habit, I’m out of love and I gotta have it. Would you give it to me if I fit your needs, like when we both knew we had it?” But the part where he goes “funny how everything was roses when we held onto the guns” makes me think of the band after they broke up and Slash is the ex lover so to speak. I know that isn’t what Axl was thinking then, but I like to interpret it that way now.

im7 chanel Chinese Democracy was an Axl Rose album with him as the ONLY original member. No Slash. No Duff. No Izzy. No Adler. Not even any of the Illusion Album guys like Clarke and Sorum. Dizzy Reed (Piano) the only guy from that Use your Illusion Tour. So as a Die Hard GNR fan that isn’t considered a GNR album. Just an Axl Rose solo album while using the name Guns N Roses Bc he owns the rights to the name.
