I had to put my dog down, couldn’t stop crying. Vet staff took my keys until I could drive. I had to then go pick up my daughter from school, so I prayed for strength and something else to think about. Got in my car, and this song immediately came on the radio. God has a sense of humor.

I read in an artical about 20 years ago that the song is actually about his dog that was dying of illness and was in pain. He put the dog down himself. The lyrics were written that way to mask it was about his dog.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for the One In A Million reaction. I don't see it happening. The funny element around that song is an interview with Slash, whose mother of course is black. The interviewer asked what he thought when the N line came in and Slash replied "yeah, it was disconcerting". I found it hilarious that he was so collegial about it and chose "disconcerting". Slash is a classy guy.

Listen to the Live Era 87-93 album on which Axl explains clearly before they perform this song that it is the only song they wrote out of fantasy and a joke and goes on to say about when you've had enough of your boyfriend or girlfriend and just wanna cut their fkn head off, stuff it in a bag and stick it in the back yard. The line in the song "and I can still hear her complain" is obviously about a person & not about Axls dog which was said in jest by Slash.
