@@elgenfranord1651 A lot of the usual intro stuff (but not all) is business. Doing sponsorships that are likely required to be at the start of the video by the advertiser, giving patreon shoutouts for the big spenders, sub reminder so the algorithm won't bury their channel, etc. are all ways they make money. Especially with weapon/firearm content, they don't really make enough from ad revenue alone to run their channel on. So yes, annoying, but unfortunately necessary, since it pays for the video afterward.

@@MikyBounty There's one crucial difference. Old black powder burns slower, meaning it doesn't propel the bullet anywhere near as fast. The reason the first two self contained charges, the .45 ACP and .45 LC, didn't pen the helmet is that they were lead headed. You can even see in the slow mo, the bullets just deformed because pure lead heads are meant for unarmored targets, where saving the weight for better muzzle velocity matter more than having a denser round. The Battle of Visby was unusual in that dead were often buried in their armour, with no attempt to remove it. Normally armour was removed from the dead, and often entire clothing, by the winning side or by local civilians prowling after the battle was over. Armour did become less and less popular with armies as firearms made wearing these relatively expensive items less worthwhile.

Depending on the style of helmet it can definitely be better than nothing. They did not do to badly against pistol rounds, and while they beat them to hell and would not hold up well to multiple shots, that still beats the hell out of taken that same round to the unprotected head. Hell even going against people with rifles those helmets still offer some protection. Sure there is no hope for stopping a direct hit, but against ricochets or bullets that pass through a barrier first it may stop them form killing you. Of course if your helmet has a large face shield, limiting your field of view that might be worst for you over all.

Actually, most heavier armor could stop bullets, or at least deflect them. Armor was made irrelevant because the vast majority of soldiers couldn't afford armor good enough to stop a bullet, so it was better to wear no armor at all. It still offer protection if its on heavy cavalry troops. Of course, it is not used to charged at a properly lined muskets. Wingged hussar, a heavy cav with heavy spear swords n pistols, was still a thing up to late 18th century. Slower reload of musket weapon can still be countered with cavalry. And you can still put armor on them so that they dont get stab to death. Of course, with faster reload, it then becomes obsolete.

@Jet Max Just because I feel like it, I'll clog this thread from a few of my posts that are way too long about this topic: Even if we were to assume that JSDF forces had 2000 people and a total of one million rounds of ammunition(or killing potential when we include artillery, missiles etc.), there's some serious supply problems! An average soldier usually carries 300 rounds, but using my numbers, soldiers carry 500 bullets each. If we assume an awesome hit rate of 25%, and 10% of soldiers willing to butcher their fellow humans(usually 25% or less of soldiers are willing to shoot to kill, rather using suppressing fire even when they have an opportunity to score a headshot!) when you consider they're JSDF and HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED FRONT LINE COMBAT!= 1000000 (rounds of ammunition) x 0.10(percentage of people willing to kill) x 0.25 (% of hitrate) = *25000 casualties. Keep in mind casualties means wounded, injured or otherwise out of service, NOT OUTRIGHT DEATH! If I use a statistic from WW1 that like 75% of casualties were caused by artillery, and just handwave that onto the choppers and whatnot, that's 100 000 casualties. If we use Roman numbers alone, they had an army of at least 250 000 people. Keep in mind the Empire in GATE is very militaristic, and could have a much higher population than the Roman Empire had at it's peak! The Empire in GATE could conscript an army of perhaps 1 420 000 people or triple that amount! Even if we said the JSDF or whoever got 300 000 or even 500 000 casualties, they just couldn't possibly have enough firepower to win purely on their own. The first few battles would be a complete massacre for the Classical Era Empire. Like, they'd probably be totally obliterated. But after the tenth of twelfth battle, the modern army might be exhausted of munitions, but who knows how well they could live off the land? However, the enemy will have adapted and devised tactics and counter-tactics to nullify and twist advantages into disadvantages.* If the JSDF or some other modern force of a few thousand were truly trapped in the past (or an alternate universe set in the past so we don't have to alter our history and had no GATE or easy method to return to the present), it'd be nasty! *Imagine the morale plummeting realizing you'll never taste Coke again. You'll never experience the internet and playing with your cat or dog on the weekend ever again. The country you fight for is non-existent, or at least thousands of kilometers away and is thousands of years in the past. Family and friends that were left behind are lost forever, you'll never see them again! You've bombed these Imperial cities, you've killed countless in fields of fire and acrid plumes of smoke and putrid toxins that melt lungs and shrapnel shredding your body into mulch and explosions incinerating you into charred steak and rubble crushing your bones and have had brothers see their family's heads explode into paste by an enemy they could hardly see. Imagine the horror! It'd be a stress bomb an order of magnitude higher than most soldiers would ever face!* The modern army would have to keep moving, lest they be cut off from supplies by a large blockade/encirclement. Maps wouldn't help as much because the topography and river placement would be very different than what it is today. An average unit of Marines is not likely to be able to make an oil refinery, start generating electricity, or create machine tools to make spare parts for equipment. And even if they could figure it out, it would take a few months or even years. So, as soon as the Marines ran out of gas, their tanks would become little more than hunks of metal. The upside is that helicopters can run off of things like biofuels, you'd be forced to use helicopters sparingly, as your helicopter would run out of it's own ammunition quickly and good luck manufacturing bullets, specifically the primer. In the short term and in the open, modern infantry could massacre any ancient soldiers at little risk to themselves, but you could not support modern infantry. So all of these weapons and vehicles could make a brief, dramatic, and even devastating appearance, but would very quickly become nearly useless. Probably in a matter of days or perhaps weeks. Imagine if in the show we saw a guy make a brilliant golden statue of their Emperor that has given his citizens "peace" and "prosperity." He spends over 2 decades constructing the glorious monument, only for it to be completely obliterated by bombing runs as civilians and the artists and engineers get crushed and blasted into pieces. *JSDF soldiers begin to feel horrible as it seems less like a war and more like a genocide they're enacting. JSDF marches in the streets, gunning down all Imperial supporters of this "evil" Empire, including melting civilians running in the streets with flamethrowers and a flurry of bullets.* Imagine scenes of us learning about a proud Imperial citizen who bathes with his family. His brother who leads a cohort of troops gets shot to pieces by someone. There's flashbacks of tens of thousands of Imperial soldiers and civilians dying. This fills the demoralized Imperial Army with resolve and they begin to devise counter-stratagems using the magic, troops, terrain, and tactics at their disposal. Imagine scenes of JSDF soldiers scared and severely traumatized and panicking as scores of them charge forward in a mix of blind rage and defecting from JSDF just so they might be treated well as prisoners of war. *The Imperial tactician shatters a fleeing Private-First-Class's arm. Both of them are crying in agony, staring into the others eyes, both pleading for mercy. The general then hoists the PFC and his friend onto his horse, and escorts them behind Imperial lines and assures them they will be treated with respect. That's way more tense and interesting, and really humanizes both sides.* We see the overconfident JSDF begin to shatter, and they actually, lose a battle because most of them are psychiatric casualties of war. *We also see how the "evil Imperials" are people fighting for the survival of their very world. They're paranoid that if the JSDF secures a solid foothold in Falmart, that it'd be like what happened with Natives in the Americas and Africa, except most of the casualties are from being murdered.* You could have miscommunication leading to some guy killing a merchant just trying to trade to the JSDF. Or they run low on MREs (portable rations/meals), and raid farms owned by civilians to use the food to feed themselves as well as biofuel for their helicopters. This also raises ethical questions as well? Does the Empire actually have an argument as to why the JSDF should leave their fantasy world alone? Our protagonist now goes from idealistically support the Japanese army to seriously questioning their actions! Imagine during mid-battle, when it seems the overconfident JSDF has yet again slaughtered thousands of Imperial troops and sent the Imperial army group running like lightning, a "civil war/mutiny" breaks out in the JSDF! Each side tries to assassinate the other commander and take control of the army! Both sides have differing ideals regarding Japanese expansion into the GATE, what to do with PRISONERS OF WAR(POWs are such a huge issue, they could be the focus of entire episodes!), how should civilians be treated, and how much political interference should the outside world be allowed to have, just to name a few sources of potential conflict. This would also be a great reasons as to why some Western nations, or at least America because they're close allies, should have came with military forces with Japan into the GATE. American doctrine dictates a covert assassination/infiltration, while the Japanese doctrines dictate a pitched battle using psychological tactics to skyrocket the morale of the troops. You could also have a few dozen diplomats and personal bodyguards come in from a colourful cast of other nations to provide all sorts of drama and humanization of both sides! What if a few troops/diplomats of these other nations and ethnicities happened to have experienced genocide in their pasts? What if there was a call for peace with these fantasy nations? Or further war? See if we can bring their fantasy magic into our world? *GATE MANGA AND NOVELS>GATE ANIME, DESPITE THE OBSCENELY DUMB SHIT LIKE THE HAKONE INCIDENT AND THE TUKA AND YAO ARC! NATIONALISM DESTROYS THE POTENTIAL FOR WHAT COULD'VE BEEN AN AMAZINGLY DEEP STORY IN ALL VERSIONS!* *If you read all that, awesome man! Great to see someone hopefully enjoy my post as much as I did making them!*

@Whoever else read my shitty posts: Imagine if the "Zulus and Indians" had access to magic, vast amounts of cavalry, archers (that the Empire actually uses because arrows are still very effective, unless you were wearing ceramic [that shatters eventually]/steel plates), and Oni, just to name a few. Why doesn't the Empire get a dozen Oni/Ogres etc. Here's some examples of how to make some of the battles interesting: 1 - Imperial Commander wising up and trying something other than the mostly wooden shields they've been using for defense. Switching to full metal, thicker shields which would prove problematic for the kinds of weapons the JSDF has been shown to be using. "Nyah! But most bullets could probably pierce straight through metal shields!" Well then use some durability enchantment or something on your shields to counteract that. You could try durability enhanced full plate armour to really toughen up your soldiers. But it'd take a fair bit of time to create plate suits then mass produce them. However, if that doesn't work you could improvise even further and using essentially thick metal slabs pushed by non-humans or human teams (essentially moving versions of the old archer's defenses) to force the JSDF to use vehicle munitions or explosives to take them on head-on. 2: The non-humans. Something like Tio. They've shown catgirls, orcs, kitsune etc. Its not too hard a stretch to imagine that there are Oni and Ogres as well. And in most myth and anime/games Oni and Ogres are depicted as being massively strong - strong even to wear basically what amounts to an MBT or LAV as armor while still moving, aside from being incredibly durable. So you get a bunch of them decked out in full, heavy iron/steel armor and let loose in the Capital against the JSDF and suddenly that easy as shit raid turns into a fuckfest as you can't shoot them to death (it'd be like trying to use an M16 to kill a Bradley IFV), forcing you to use explosives in tight quarters (bad) or try to get air support that doesn't also frag YOU. All while being chased by something that can pick up and throw chunks of building and road at you (and potentially any light vehicles it happens to catch). The morale of your squadron will plummet as many would probably just run away, scared shitless and perhaps psychologically traumatized for some time. Also keep in mind civilian casualties are a thing as well. The JSDF might be forced to choose between rapidly killing these giants with explosives, but in the process kill droves of Imperial civilians that are just trying to hide amidst the chaos. Ooh! Ethical choices! Drama! What if a fuckshit crazy overconfident commander says "Fuck it!" and bombs dozens of innocent civilians? 3: The really easy one - remember that little wind magic trick the bandits pulled vs. the town? So...what happens when the Imperial Mages realize that the JSDF weapons still use projectiles, and that their aircraft are just as vulnerable to poor weather as wyverns and dragons are? Guns and aircraft don't work so well in near-hurricane force winds - you don't even have to get that far. Get it up to "severe thunderstorm" levels and most aircraft would be grounded and your effective engagement range with ballistic weapons drops to almost nothing - not even counting your ability to effectively aim in that kind of situation. What if the Empire's magic wasn't as powerful as I think it is, but they could still assassinate commanders and cause a lot of havoc/equipment failures. Use torrential rain to fuck with guns, jam their signals, or just lightning strike an ammunition or munitions storage unit for a huge kaboom! Strap a super powerful fantasy version of Greek Fire and bombard the enemy with Scorpion/Ballista shots that have a 5x5 metre blast radius when they land, and the fire continues to spread. Or just drop vases of the incendiary fluids on the JSDF IF YOU HAVE THE HIGH GROUND OBI-WAN! There are a lot of things they could do besides "Empire tries the same thing over and over, getting its ass kicked repeatedly in the same way". Also, you could try stuff like what I mentioned in my first of 3 large posts, and just humanize both factions and have staunchly Imperial characters that we actually care about and so on. *If anyone read all that, thank you very much!*

It depends on the caliber. 9mm and .45 cal do not have big penetrating power hence why are they used primarily by civilians and the police while more heavier rounds are being mostly used by military.
@mcalsip
@mcalsip 8 жыл бұрын
Not even remotely true. 9mm is the primary round used in military sidearms. .45acp was developed for military use and fell out of fashion when the US adopted the M9 as the standard military sidearm in 1985. Both rounds are regularly used by military and civilians today and there isn't such a thing as a military caliber when it comes to small arms. The real reason the older firearms were doing so much damage is because the rounds were very heavy and slow moving objects. Many muskets are between .50-.70 caliber and feature a very heavy bullets traveling at slow speeds. This infers a strike that creates a big dent or hole in a metal surface that is relatively thin such as a helmet. Handguns are meant for self defense only and are therefore generally under powered, especially semi autos, because they often compromise power in order to have a round small enough to fit in the grip of the frame. If you are going to war then you are going to use a rifle. Modern military rifles use the same round as the AR15 they were shooting, 5.56x45(NATO) or 7.62x39(AK). These rounds are often lighter or the similar weight as their handgun cousins but travel at extremely higher velocities due to a much larger casing, thus a greater amount of propellant, and longer barrel to infer that energy into the bullet when fired. Even though the damage would seem greater from the older firearms, this damage is mainly cosmetic to the helmet. The lighter rifle rounds were penetrating at a higher velocity. Had there been a person wearing that helmet, the damage would have been substantially more lethal and also more reliably consistent. It just creates the illusion of less damage because it so effortlessly punches through.
@dmdizzy
@dmdizzy 8 жыл бұрын
You know an AR-15 fires a round that's smaller than a 9mm, right? It's conical and higher velocity, which is why it goes straight through.
@2SSSR2
@2SSSR2 8 жыл бұрын
I am not judging it by psychical size but by penetrating capability and also by their official designations. 9mm are small caliber weapons, while 5.56 ( or 7.62 here ) are considered medium size weapons.
@majormassenspektrometer

Rifles will always be more powerful than pistols or revolvers. The helmet could stop the old Colt .45 and the new .45ACP. Which it couldn't stop was 9mm, 7,62 Tokarev. Speed kills armor. And smaller projectiles are generally faster and are superiour when it comes to armor penetration.

People should look up the story about the Australian bushranger (bandit) Ned Kelly. He lived from 1854 to 1880 and he wore a suit of armour when going into combat with the authorities who where hunting him down. He killed many o police and took plenty o hostages before his last stand. At the time legend had it at the time he could withstand 20 police by himself and emerged uninjured and unhindered after many of his encounters with police. However he did not have any protection on his legs though and that is how the police finally captured him. He is now revered as an Australian hero and a is he is always there to remind Australian of their penal colonial past.

Yeah, but according to legend that armour was made from ploughs. I don't know what kind of metal that was, but I would say pretty substantial compared to the kind of thing these helmets are made of. www.slv.vic.gov.au/view-discuss/ned-kelly’s-armour 45 kg metal armour made of plough metal. www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/62iag9/how_thick_was_ned_kellys_armour/ Typically this is apparently only 3/16th inch mild steel. But it doesn't look as though the police had weapons that were all that impressive. And as you saw in the helmet demonstration shown here, there were a handful of shots that did not penetrate the helmets, notably, many of the pistol rounds. Anyway... Ned Kelly. Don't know anyone in Australia who is unfamiliar with that story... But outside of Australia it's a bit more of a surprise to people it seems... XD

He was captured at Glenrowan while he and the rest of the gang (Dan Kelly, Joe Bryne and Steve Hart) were wearing armour. No police died in the Glenrowan shootout. Ned had something like 28 wounds to his arms and legs. The other gang members died in the shootout when police set fire the the inn. The armour was only worn at Glenrowan.
