I use both size cans for storing tow chains. Your standard 20' tow chain stays clean, stores nicely in the truck. The Fat 50 can hold a 20' tow rope and a couple of medium snatch blocks.

I also use the tall thin rocket ammo cans for MRE’s I can fit two boxes in one can laid flat under my bed.

If you are going to bug out, have enough large empty cans to transfer important papers from your fireproof box/safe to the water tight ammo cans. You can double up on water proofing by using freezer (stronger) ziplok bags, or even use your food sealer ( you can always cut and reseal) instead of relying on the ziplok bag seals.

Solder a bare metal contact point (for a detachable solid bolt - for bugging out) to the largest can you can get. Attach a heavy gauge copper wire to the contact point (bolt to the can). Run the other end of the wire to a permanent copper ground rod or pipe going straight down into the ground.The longer, and deeper, the better (2 to 3 feet long?). Be very careful not to penetrate water, sewage, or electrical lines. Now you have a Faraday Box for an extra phone, a small laptop computer, or electronic medical devices, etc., that would survive an E.M.P.! Line the inside with cardboard. Nothing should touch the inside metal surface. Another option is to use a large metal garbage can, using aluminum tape for A/C duct work to seal the lid. Be sure to waterproof all the contents, individually.

I do agree that a lot of military contracts are based on cost however if you read the studies regarding magazine durability tests it just might surprise you how well the plastic magazines perform.
@spoke11833 жыл бұрын
@@GunsandTactics I just do not see it that way. They function, Im ok with that. But do they out perform in anyway that they should be considered in a kit. Hell NO. They have much greater failure points. Absolutely zero way to repair them too. You can repair a bent or dinged alloy mag. You can NOT repair a chipped feed lips or cracked body of a plastic mag. Besides for the price of plastic you are paying for some quality manufacturer. You can literally buy two high quality alloy mags like for an example surefeed or GI mags. Not only that your sacrificing quality but your overpaying too. The whole military uses them is a complete joke media and youtube ninjas dont understand and promote milspec like is something to worship. Like is said military is contracted by lowest bidder. Someone some where, out there decided to lowered a 10 cents per a mag over someone else and won a plastic mag billion dollar contract.
@GunsandTactics3 жыл бұрын
I get what you’re saying but the reality is magazines are a disposable consumable item. I have gone through numerous metal magazines as well so it is just one of those things that you have to keep up on. For what it’s worth I have had far less issues with pmags then I have with US G.I. metal mags. We have a couple hundred of each that we would issue at classes, pool mags etc I know my data size sample is only a couple hundred of each but we replaced the USGI mags more often and had less and less issues with PMags so we started using those more and more.
