Hell yea, congrats on the 1cc! To answer some questions : Rene Hellwig is the main artist for both this and Ghost Blade, so you can say that GV is like a spiritual sequel If you get an extra life at max lives you get a shield, so that's probably what you were noticing The [SAFE] thing is just a way to more clearly telegraph s Also the musician EXEMIA actually did some tracks for Blue Revolver's arranged OST, all his stuff is on bandcamp so def check it out since you're so into Gunvein's OST! Hope you enjoy Intense!

Thanks BH - this is super insightful! The shield definitely encourages playing more no-miss than not to ensure that shield is up as much as possible, so I'll see how things go in Intense mode. Thanks again!!

Nice run, Dace! What makes this game unique imo is the way it constantly makes you move. It's hard to explain, I've played a lot of different shmups the last couple of years but none felt like this. Like the game is screaming "Go! Go! Go!"" all the time. Good thing I'm not a critic. 😃 Plus the music, man it's so good. Might try and stick my toes into intense and see how that goes...

Hey, Martin - thanks for checking this out! Intense mode will take some sorting out for sure but so far, I'm enjoying the little bit I've sampled. All the best with your runs!

Awesome stuff, Dace! GV instantly reminded me of Ghost Blade HD! It’s a cool look for sure. And the music is sick! Love the Stage 2 boss music. In terms of difficulty, coming from Mushi 1.5, GV throws a lot of „new“ stuff at me. Especially the S3 boss. Looking out for bullets from behind, moving around the complete stage and bosses that sponge a lot of hits threw me off a bit. But it’s very fun! Looking forward to new Coffee&Shmups and Meet the player episodes.
@Shmuptopia Жыл бұрын
Hey, Timo! Thanks so much for checking this out! Yeah, Mushi is essentially a more classical experience compared to this so don't worry if you're only making it so far because you're being bombarded by way more mechanics and much more abstract bullet patterns and attacks in this game. But you'll adjust before you know it! As always, if it helps and you'd like a short private video, I can certainly put something together for the stage 3 boss. Thanks for being here man!

Lock on mechanics like Crimson Clover's fatigue my hand and fingers quickly, but that foot pedal idea is crazy enough it just might work!
@Shmuptopia Жыл бұрын
Ha, it's been a long time (20-ish years) since I heard someone use the "is crazy enough it just might work" line but I often think about how golden that phrase is. Thanks for checking this out. Yeah, there's something awkward about certain lock-on mechanics when mixed with other things and I find it can often take away from the enjoyment of tackling a game depending on how it is handled. There's a part of me that would like to jump into Crimzon Clover Unlimited but whenever I do, the amount of lock-on is absurdly excessive, so at this point it's hardly a priority. I like when games are designed in such a way that you can still play how you want without feeling forced to rely on mechanics you're not into so much but with that mode in particular, lock-on feels essential. Still, there's room to explore without using it so maybe I'll zero in on that next time and see how things go.

I am finding the tutorial very useful so far. Only completed the first 2 basic sections and that took me well over an hour. I knew about bullet herding but never thought about going from slow to fast to create a gap in bullet patterns. As a casual player with only an hour or 2 a week to spend on video games, I'm still only just getting to the 2nd level before a continue and could do with a super easy mode but this may be the type of game that will increase my skills on all shmups.
@Shmuptopia Жыл бұрын
Hey there, Pete! Glad to hear you're enjoying this so far! Yeah, creating gaps is an essential maneuver. There is certainly a lot going on in this game so if this is one of the only arcade shooters you're playing, it'll certainly dish out a well-rounded batch of things to learn. Would it help if I put together a private video for you where I go over the first couple of stages so you have a verbal rundown of things to keep in mind or what to prioritize? If so, let me know as I'd be more than happy to help you gain a better handle on the game - especially since you have such limited time. I would just need to know which difficulty mode you're playing on and what ship you prefer. Thanks for watching and all the best!
@petewatson8074 Жыл бұрын
@@Shmuptopia Wow, Thanks so much. Any help would be massively appreciated. I was playing on the middle character with low speed and power but a big circular range as I thought that may be easiest. The Last couple of runs have been with the left character who has a triangular but smaller lock on range. Haven't even tried the third one. Your point about "if this is the only shooter I'm playing, I'll make gains" hits home. I am guilty of buying just about every single shmup on switch and never getting passed the first few levels. Maybe I should stick with Gunvein before buying anymore. Thanks again
@Shmuptopia Жыл бұрын
@@petewatson8074 No worries, I'll put something together this afternoon and reply with a fresh comment here. Are you on Mild or the difficulty before that (I don't recall what the named it) ? The red ship (triangle lock-on) is well balanced, so I'll use that for the video and explain why as well but if you end up being totally set on another one, let me know. Thanks again!
@petewatson8074 Жыл бұрын
@@Shmuptopia Mild difficulty and yes I think the more well balanced ship is sensible. The game seems to encourage fairly aggressive play rather than sitting at the back relying on a larger lock on range. Thanks

I limited myself to 1 shmup this month - have spent too much on other games - I ended up getting Castle of Shukigami 2 instead and I'm really dissapointed with it! Will be getting Gunvein next week as really liked it on PC, I'd agree with most reviews of the game - it's very good but not quite top in class.

I concur with you regarding Gunvein's music, it's banging, off the top of my head I'd say only Gunlord has a better soundtrack also on Switch. How is it possible to access arcade mode and online leaderboards on Switch?
@Shmuptopia Жыл бұрын
It’s been some time since I jumped in but if Arcade mode is locked, I think you need to beat whatever mode comes before arcade mode. Once that’s done, you should be good.

@@Shmuptopia I don't even see a locked arcade mode. It's just not there. Same for online leaderboards ...
@Shmuptopia Жыл бұрын
@@RetrofanboyI just checked and I think what happened was I called it an Arcade mode clear because Normal mode is essentially the Arcade mode of the game - which helps to differentiate between this and extra modes such as the arrange mode and mission(s).
