What i like the most, is that she build this all from the stories and dreams of her childhood. Against all dificulties, or maybe because, in her country. I think with her latest lines she is still in progress. I Love the fact, that she is still the girl listning and dreaming.

I noticed those construction issues when I visited the Bowers museum as well. There were also spots where you could CLEARLY see hot glue. In a lot of ways I really appreciated it, because it made me see the dresses as an attainable goal. Like, these were made by humans, not some flawless entity that makes perfect pieces every single time. It also made me chuckle a bit like "lol, I've done that too"

Dear Tr. Zoe, I would like to learn and know about Balenciaga brand and its design house. I've known that Cristóbal Balenciaga was a master of shape and form in couture world and even Christian Dior referred him, "the master of us all'. But why this famous couture house changed into the influential and sophisticated street-wears brand. I hope you will do a deep dive video about Balenciaga. Warmest regards, Winny.

Loved this video! I would never have thought to check things like zippers and hems when it comes to haute couture....it would be like questioning an artist like Michelangelo (something to that effect), just because of what it takes to be considered a couturier. I like though, how you show that we're all just people. We're not always perfect. And maybe that's what's most appealing about these constructions and designs, our humanity 😊👍🏻💘

This is a super video, Zoe. I love that Guo Pei's fashions are works of art and not about creations for models that look like the living dead. I have the book with the yellow dress on the back cover on an inspiration display shelf in our apparel design and sewing studio.

Excellent video. I could look at her creations all day. Sometimes i pause and enlarge to examine details. Wish i could see a collection in person. It becomes very meditative, for me, to examine the colors, shapes, textures. Also thank you for offering criticism as well as praise. You weren't dismissive or cruel, just observant. It actually made her even more human to me! I am going to look for more of her work so anyone with suggestions, please reply. You have a new subscriber, thank you again for the obvious care you put into this video
@coreartalex67085 жыл бұрын
I understand from where the comparison with McQueen comes from BUT her designs are clearly designed by a woman I know that sounds like a mambo jambo thing to say, but yeah there's an "aura" on her dresses that shows that. Also agree on the little zippers & details critique because, its Couture .... by essence should be 10000% perfect on every way.
@zoehongteaches5 жыл бұрын
No, I get you, I think that too, and also about CWK's Givenchy and Iris VH, they look like a woman designed them and it's hard to articulate exactly why across the board. I occasionally will see something and think, "10 bucks says a dude designed that."

Zoë, you are as timely and relevant as you are talented and skilled! Thank you for all your tutorials and for your back door, backstage explorations into fashion. I love being a member of the community you are creating! 🤗 As a couture designer, I too, have mixed feelings regarding, not Guo Pei’s designs, but her construction. Design is an aesthetic...construction is a discipline. Haute couture deserves and demands a commitment to technique as much - if not more than - a commitment to design, if for no better reason than design is subjective, while construction is objective and measurable. Many thanks for your thoughtful insight! - Roxie

Great video as always! Really love how in-depth you went in this vid - very informative! Have you listening to fashion history podcast it reminded me just of that! Despite of everything mentioned in such a big fan of Guo Pei! She brings such an elegant perspective to the western ideal of dress and I hope more doors are open in the future for other international designers in the couture world in hopes of changing the very nature of what couture means in a global world. Now don’t get me wrong I love and respect the history of couture but I feel like there’s this exclusivity and lack of appreciation for other techniques of dress making from various parts of the world. West Africa has a rich tradition that I feel is on par with couture practice, Mexico and the making of the traditional flowing dresses-I could go on an on but hey maybe this could be a good video idea? Idk 🤷🏾♀️

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for your video. I had never heard of her and I definitely should have. Like you mentioned, I never knew this level of construction existed. I was surprised to hear she's compared to Alexander McQueen, her designs just seem way more opulent, although both are/were masters of asymmetrical balance. It's amazing the difference in our goals before and after we have knowledge, I love sculptural/wearable fashion but I do want to design a bit more of a "day wear" level. I learned so much! Thank you

She left me puzzled, I mean how on earth does she come up with her mood boards lol, when I want to create a design through any fashion houses identity I need to know more about the designer or the person behind the collection.. You know how it is to live in such country's, rights? There is no way to express yourself and be different (I was born in CCCP I know ). I am happy for her! Her designs looks very breathtaking (from far away) not on that close taking pic . It's not a CHANEL PERFECTION but her design are great, rich and very interesting to explore , just need more work on improving quality.
