I was reading Vikram Vetaal and revisiting childhood days. In that there was one story where a Princess had to chose for herself a suitor. And anyone who was able to defeat her in sword fight would be her husband was what she declared. Many people came but no one was able to defeat her. But one particular Prince would watch her every move and understand her fighting style. Then he will go practice and come prepared to compete with her. And he will also defeat her. But she will not accept him as her suitor. And Vetaal will ask why she refused him. And King Vikram will reply that the Prince was taking combat lessons from the Princess and in the process taken her as a Guru. Much like the story of Ekalavya. And it is wrong for a Guru to marry her student! That story simply amazed me. What great moral conduct they had for society. And look at the degeneracy now.

The subject is very relevant as we loosely use the word Guru in modern day to anyone who teaches in any sphere of life like School, Work or displays any expertise. The "Guru" in my understanding is that person who has definitely realised the self and also has the power to show the way to others. Examples could be Ramana Maharshi, Ramakrishna Parmhansa etc.

God has given you eyesight, Guru gives you vision. Vision comes from lateral thinking. Lateral thinking is mapping from one domain to to another. Eklavya might not have asked any questions like Arjun. Eklavya type thinking is skill without morals. Precisely for this reason his Thumb was taken as Guru Dakshina,
@VivekKumarvrk194094 жыл бұрын
@Vidhya Dhara Eklavya came to Dronacharya's ashram to learn archery but he didnt accept him as his disciple due to being Nishadputra. Disappointed with Dronacharya's refusal, Eklavya created Dronacharya's idol and started practicing archery by considering the idol as a guru and continued to become extremely accomplished in archery within a short period of time with spiritual practice. Coincidentally one day Dronacharya have been shocked to see a hunting dog silenced by having his mouth filled with arrows which hadn't hurt the dog. It can only be done with true mastery of the bow and arrow by a true genius. But Dronacharya had promised to Arjuna to make him greatest archer, thats why he called for his gurudakshina, which Ekalavya lost his thumb to pay.

Through the grace of the Guru, wisdom is initiated and the pupil gets knowledge through EXPERIENCE, SELF-REALISATION. The information provided by the teacher helps in developing logic, rational thinking and intellect. The guru enables dismantling of logic, rational thinking and intellect. The teacher advices how to overcome hurdles. The guru advices how to accept hurdles.

In the Indian Education System of the day, a student must pay the fees / Dakshina first and then acquire the education unlike the traditional way of things when the Dakshina was given later and it amounted as per the quality of education received by the student. In the modern way of education, education received may be sub-par and not to the satisfaction of the student. Is radical change needed in this process? Please let me know your thoughts.

The role of Guru is similar to a person to whom you ask while searching for an address. He may not be more intelligent but he had traveled that path earlier and knows where it heads to. It is like a child starts walking holding finger of father / mother / any elderly person with more strength than you. One day you start on your own. It saves time and efforts. Guru acts as a critic for your improvement. You learn to walk and speak naturally, but you can not learn to read and write naturally. This needs a Guru. ################ Original by V.Y. My question to both: What is your view on current populations of South Asia using the word "dharma" to mean "religion" as opposed to its original meaning which comes closer to mean "duty"? For example original usage seems to be "Raj dharma", "putra dharma" etc which now have "Hindu dharma, Esai dharma" etc. Do you agree that this deviation in meaning even by the educated and governments (for example while asking for religion in forms etc) harms the civilizational heritage of India and south asia ?
@ni30703 жыл бұрын
Dharma means Righteousness to the best of my knowledge......so Raj Dharma is what is righteous for a King.....so, South Asians suffer with the word Religion, because we don't understand it.....we get spirituality, but with Religion we struggle, so we somehow have started equating Righteousness as Religion cause people keep telling that Religion shows path to be Right😅

Guru is a shakti. It is not a body, but requires a body. #dhyanfoundation A guru is adept in past life visitations, spiritual healing, yagyas, havans, mantra, art of mace and vedic martial arts. Only a mantra siddha has the ability to invoke the devs and devis. A guru doesn't charge any money for imparting this wisdom. Our scriptures has given Guru the highest position -- "Gururbrahma gururvishnuh gururdevo maheshwarah |Guruhsakshat parabrahma tasmai shrigurave namah ||" -How can Guru be Brahma, Vishna, Mahadev and beyond Parabrahm? Because we cannot reach God - only through guru, so that is why Guru is highest to us. You cannot determine a guru by how they look, what they speak, what they wear, how many followers they have -- only by your own experience.

I don't agree with Guru not being paid anything in return for services, which he has to do 24x7. Then how Guru is supposed to take care of himself. So, Gurus needs to be paid for their services like any other services. That's why there is a concept of Guru Dakshina. Nothing comes for free. For everything you have to pay something. That expectation of getting everything for free is the main reason for degradation of quality of Guru and taking them for granted while leaching everthing out of them.

280 GURU on GIRI Story of the guru on the giri is just an attempt to discover how both words evolved their present day meaning. We will go across language barriers hunting for the meaning of the component sounds. Guru, the teacher, lives on a giri, a mountain. When students approach him he sits on an elevated stone and talks to them, similar to the orator delivering a speech from the podium. The guru is able cast his eyes on each one of the audience and adjusts the speech to meet the pulse of the audience. The landscape of giri is the most apt choice of guru, with listeners sitting all around ensuring natural visibility and audibility. Guru. If we split and analyse the elemental sounds we would arrive at very revealing idea about the idea of guru. Guru = ഗുരു = ഗ് + ഉ + ര് + ഉ The sound components " ga " and " ra " were discussed many times earlier. "GA" of English go, Indian ഗമയ (gamaya), ഗചാമീ (gachhami), ഗതി (gathi, speed) are in words relating to movement. " Ra " (ര) sound represents repetition. " U " , ( " ഉ " / "oo" ) , the vowel sound is present in words representing vertically above in position or direction in various languages. Eg. Indian languages ooper, ഉയരെ, english up, upper, utopia. Connecting together we may surmise guru is a person ( teacher)who lifts up the listener ( students) unfailingly, always. " Giri ", the Indian word for mountain evolves by the additional input of the meaning of the sound " I " ( " ഇ " / "ee" ). For finding the meaning of " I " let's scan through words involving the sound "ഇ". English word this ( in contrast to that) represents something in the proximity of the SA, the self. Malayalam word ഇത് (in contrast to അത്) represents something in the neighborhood of self. The English word " in " ( in contrast to the word out ) reveals about position within the limits of the entity of discussion. The sound " i " / " ee " represents the position vertically down below the self. " Giri " is the Indian word representing a hill / mountain from where ga (movement) downward happens inevitably ( " ra " / ര ). A misstep would inevitably lead to the fatal fall. A word which cautions the possibility of fall is the product of Indian intellect. Guru (ഗുരു) on the giri (ഗിരി) positions himself visible and audible to the one who has ear to hear. When Guru says " blessed are the poor " on the Giri most of the listeners leave him. Guru's talk on the Giri is described in Bible Mathews 5,6 & 7. Guru ( teacher ) continues the discussion sitting on giri ( mountain ), which is closer to sky/ heaven. Guru offers Kingdom of Heaven and Kingdom of God to the blessed poor.
