This place has some amazing fried chicken and sides, @Meg & Greg! Their fried okra was so great with the light cornmeal batter. Jennifer and Henry really enjoy pickled okra too….especially, the dill flavored. It has a nice crunch as well. We really enjoyed everything we tried at Gus’s. We hope that y’all are doing well also! The chicken here is some of the best ever! We couldn't find a parking spot on the day that we went, so we had to drive around the block to wait for a spot to open up. It was a really hopping place and that was at 2:00 in the afternoon on a Monday. Definitely a Joey B fan. I was born in Wilmington, where the Bengals used to have their training camps back in the 90s. I used to spend part of my summer break watching the Bengals play on a small field at Wilmington college and got to meet Boomer Esiason one summer. While I mainly root for the Titans now, I'll forever be a Bengals fan. We hope that you guys had a great weekend.

I (Jennifer) like cornmeal battered okra the best. It adds just the right crunch and flavor to compliment the okra. Chess pie and chess squares are so delicious too. We had a very honest waitress who (when asked) informed us the mildest chicken was still quite spicy and might cause irritation for mild taste buds. She was right. (The side items were quite good.)

@vafunseekers, we think y’all will definitely, love Gus’s fried chicken. Their bone-in chicken is their hot and spicy recipe, and their tenders have less of a kick. Gentry didn’t say anything about the tenders being too spicy. In our opinion, the bone-in had the perfect amount of spice and seasonings. Everything that we tried there was delicious. I buy turnip greens in the can…a great brand is Glory Foods seasoned turnip greens. If we are ever in Knoxville, will certainly try this place. Fried chicken is my favorite.

Our former favorites were at The Wooden Spoon in Hillsboro, Ohio and Sunset in Lebanon, TN. Both of them were bought out and turned into different businesses. Our new favorite is Mama's Chicken Kitchen in Gatlinburg - if you enjoy fried chicken, y'all will love Mama's Chicken Kitchen. It's amazing.
