A true journalist would have asked all the controversial questions! This is so biased! Way to address how Gustav’s brother “didn’t” know about Colin!

Such a professional interviewer! So good!! I’m still not 100% sure why Gustav doesn’t stick with long course. I get he likes the challenge of short course and is good at it but he is just so special at long course and can really become the GOAT of this and progress Ironman to another stratosphere esp. with the Norwegian scientific method and fueling strategy. My advice would be to have one more go at Olympics then blow the Ironman world apart forever!

It's a long shot but I hope he does it! He will never be a front pack swimmer , which then means he needs to kill it on the bike to close the gaps, and then somehow outrun the likes of Yee and Wilde. A tall order

here is my amateur take: gustav is probably one strongest even bike+run athlete ever. Problem with olympic distance is that basically due to drafting swim and bike are just a warm up... and my view not an honest race. Most of the olympic races you have 50 athletes arrived at the same time at the bike transition. So then you have olympic distance specialist like yee or mola that if they arrive in T2 with everyone they just outrun, but I doubt they would a good at ironman or 1/2 ironman

Gustav must know something we don't regarding Olympic distance... He must know that he can outbike and outrun the likes of Yee, Wilde etc... That means also that he can produce a 29 min 10 K after the bike. If not, it's unrealistic. But I would love to see him win 100%

He can absolutely outbike them (Gustav is one of the better cyclists in triathlon) and Kristian outran both of them big time at the Olympics so it's fair to say Gustav can too. It's just the swim he needs to close a lot.

I think using the phase "short distance" to refer to the Olympic distance seems to attempt to diminish it. Chrissy Wellington was very dominate at the Ironman distance, but she said that she would not be as effective at the Olympic distance because the 10k run is much faster than the marathon run distance in an Ironman race. The two distances, Olympic and Ironman, require different athletic abilities in the same since that the 100-meter dash is different than the 400 meter high hurdles and the marathon.

There's big challenges to both but I see what you mean. That's why what Kristian is doing shows he's a complete triathlete. Any distance, any time.

Gustav backs it up. If he didn't back it up then sure have a problem with it. But he's a 2x 70.WC and IM WC KONA champ having set the overall record on the latter. He beat Frodeno's best time at Kona by 11 mins on his 2nd ever Ironman.

@@nelson_alexander Kona 22 had the coldest and less windy conditions since what...6-7 years? I agree, winning Kona is winning Kona, but I don't recognize the time record. Swim and Bike is no new level...maybe the run is, but this didn't start with Gustav but several years ago with Patrick Lange. Two 70.3 titles while corona don't count as much as they did in 2017 oder 2018. Sorry, I don't like him, don't like his attitude and for me personally he has to proof himself more for having this attitude

There is likely a level of obligation associated with media/sponsor commitments. The guy would much rather be training, I can guarantee that. If you listen to other athletes, the life he and Kristian live are almost untenable for anyone else. There monk like in their obsession of training which involves a lot of isolation. I think there great ambassadors of the sport. 👍
