Welcome to episode #5 of the A Quirky Journey podcast!
For most people, it’s a bit scary to think of moving away from your usual way of eating to a gut-healing diet like GAPS, and one of the scariest things is the thought of the de-toxing and die-off symptoms that you’ll go through.
So how does it feel to go through the die-off phase of GAPS? What kinds of foods were we eating before we started GAPS, and what happened when we switched to gut-healing foods? What happens when your body begins to change over from feeding on sugars, to using fats for fuel?
In this episode, Leah’s husband Mark joins the show to share his experiences of the first couple of weeks of GAPS, and explains from a scientific viewpoint what the body is going through during this time of change.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, I am at day 3, can't eat anymore, just throwing up and feeling nauseous and can only lay down. Just the thought about the soup makes me almost puke. On the other hand, thinking about fries is fine... Terrible. I got hope that I will feel better soon. Been suffering from candidiasis for so long, that mushroom doesn't want to give up easily.

I thought I could drive a car until I passed out from lack of sleep ( M- Sibo beating me like I owe it my first born). And I crashed. It was really a morale boosting experience. 🤢

Thanks for this, this is helpful! I’ve started introducing bone broths, soups with local grass fed meat bones, probiotic supplement, limiting sugar, and fermenting vegetables into my diet. I’m not doing gaps intro and have cheated a couple times with bread, but all of a sudden a week in, my skin has flared up with a feeling of itchiness and eczema on my neck and chest. I’m not sure if this is a die off symptom or a reaction to the gluten? It’s hard to tell because I haven’t been strictly following it.. let me know if you have any thoughts or advice!

Good on you, you are on the right track!! You will find that when you begin to give your body the foods it needs to heal, it will become more sensitive to non-healing foods for a while. This is only temporary, but if you can just really keep getting those healing foods in as much as possible you'll see changes. You could also be having die-off, but I'd avoid gluten while healing in case that was the cause. If you need help with this, we have a coaching program here: www.elysecomerford.com/the-gut-health-formula xx
