If you dont understand something rewind and watch again until you do. Dont go to the next lesson or video. This concepts will take a while to sink in under fingers. I sure am glad that KZbin keeps the content posted. I just went over this again. And your breakdown of the maj 7 minor 7 minor 3rd is so helpful. I know all of the arpeggios all over the neck so with this info now I can work on the root position, 1st inversion and 2nd inversion. Understanding where they are with ease. Guthrie you say you're not a music professor but you sure know how to breakdown and understand the whole layout of the guitar.

You are the best man. So down to earth and humble. I got serious about guitar about four yrs ago diving into scales and such. I recently finally devoted myself to triads and my guitar life has changed completely. I don’t read music or anything, but it’s so true to say how triads open everything up and essentially result in a closer intimacy with the notes on the neck and all the connections to chords and scales. Progressions and leads just wash over you. Triads triads triads!

That triad change for the dominant 7th and major 7th, from major. Is priceless for me today. I’ve hit a wall with the guitar, wanted to be a blues man. So like every one else learnt all the pentatonic scales and shapes. And wasn’t ever playing the changes. I could hear the notes in the pentatonic, but never played the change. So have recently resolved myself to learn the triads. Have only been doing major and minors trying to sing them and play them and trying to call out the thirds and fifths. To get my ears more able to hear the inversions. All feels clunky, but understand as you mention in the vid. You have to put the work in. But that one little trick a turned a light on. On;y just found you and Tom, from the Brad pappa footage of that gig you did for in stereo. I’m 52 and the only music I’ve ever heard that moved me before was from the 70s. You two are the only two musicians I can think of that put me in that space. Who are current and best of all open and transparent about their craft. And share like you do. Been a rough three years been a black dog on my tail. But you two made see. The guitar is a place you can put that negativity and learn to smile again. Thank you both.

I made it 20 years with no lessons teaching myself out of guitar world tabs. Needless to say all I really knew how to do was a couple positions of minor pentatonic and that’s really it. Was interested in jazz after seeing a guy perform solo in a bar and started taking lessons from him. We started with the major scale and worked our way up from there. What Guthrie’s saying really works. Focusing on the chord shapes, triad inversions and intervals has totally changed my ability to play melodically and navigate the fretboard. I was surprised how quickly I improved when I started studying this method after seeing Guthrie talk about it in his first Brett Papa interview appearance. Joey Landreth also references learning the neck in triad inversions and intervals in his interviews. It’s the missing piece if you’re stuck in the pentatonic boxes like I was. Thank you Guthrie for changing my musical life and sharing your knowledge. You’re an amazing player and a good human being.

We're with you man, keep it coming. You are changing player's lives by explaining all this stuff the way you understand it. One thing that kind of hit me the other day is that your basic E, A and D shapes are structurally the same with 5, 1, 3 from top to bottom. That's pretty useful to keep in mind because you always move the lower string for major to minor change. The middle string always controls Maj7 or Dominant. Pretty cool when you sit there and think about it.

Great stuff! The way you break down the cords opens up the fretboard. Thank you, keep up the good work.

I'm actually starting to understand how to sound good when I play, instead of guessing, I've been playing for over 30 yrs but now I'm progressing, thanks for the lesson
