It means alot more when it's coming from the guy who Was attacked and sold for sex by his father figure, Was betrayed by his best friend, Watched all his other friends die, Lost his arm and his eye, Had his lovers mind mentally deteriorate, Was cursed to be hunted by spirits and apostles for as long as he lives, Has no chance of getting revenge since his enemies are actual gods And still chooses to struggle and keep moving forward with everything that's happened to him instead of just giving up. He may not be real but there's still something to learn from his character.

I don't think berserk really has a message. Like it's just two men following ambition it's pretty basic. It's just they each have their own circumstances and follow their own path as a result. No one is really good or bad. They are both monsters. Wish we could've seen how he'd end it though.
@hansnase364
@hansnase364 3 жыл бұрын
This is tangential to the central message of Berserk, but this is mostly poetic irony. Guts is convinced in the truth in these words as far as Guts is concerned, but we as the reader/watcher know or atleast suspect that Griffith was talking out of his ass when philosophizing to the princess about needing a friend who is "equal" to him. Guts thinks (or tries to convince himself) that to Griffith, losing Guts is just stumbling on the road, when in actuality losing Guts, to Griffith, means losing everything.

One of the most iconic and mesmering scenes in the show. Guts saying his goodbye words to his friend along with Guts's song playing was perfectly executed. Guts knew Griffith would achieve his dream even without him, knowing his character and skills, but he could've never imagined that his absence would cost him much more than he expected. Ironically Griffith was the one who contributed to Guts's decision with his monologue in episode 10

It's heartbreaking that such tragedy and slaughter was all caused by miscommunication and misunderstanding. Had Griffith and Guts been upfront with each other with Guts wanting to be viewed as a true friend by him and Griffith admitting he already does. So much sorrow could've been avoided.

@@THENemesisXX99 In addition to what you wrote, another worth mentioning part is that until Guts's decision to leave the Hawks almost everything went perfectly. Many wins in the battlefield and strong bonds that were created between Guts, Griffith and Casca.

Sometimes we forget the value of being sad. When we're sad we tend to run away from it. Griffith had his own way of escaping it, and often times it leads into bad outcomes. Just like Guts said we just stumbled upon a rock, we will stand again maybe not now but, we will. Edit: Thank you Miura.
