@@TeslaPlaidChannel And you have direct drive with no losses. So for one of them (ICE) to develop the same power, they would need to dyno at the wheels the same number as your car. Conversely, the engine HP number would have to be, depending on the drivetrain losses, 1100-1200HP. At that point, many cars can be in the 9's, with prepped surface, without needing an extraordinary coincidence of perfect weather and track state. At that point, you would need to have a very good charge state too. Once both your car and the ICE car would dyno the same wheel number, of course you'd have the instant torque, but the ICE would have the torque multiplication provided by the gearbox, certainly more than your instant 905 ftlb, by probably one factor of magnitude. Tesla are visionaries and have revolutionized electric cars perception via performance over and again, mainly because the Automotive Engine Manufacturing had been without challenge performance-wise for many decades. Advances offered to customers in terms of engine power output were barely even seen or researched, the industry was telling customers "you have enough power output, we are not giving you more" for many decades. There is no good reason for which after so many years ICE would not be able to develop at this time 1000HP for a Honda Civic, except that there was no challenge on this level to the product. 4 cylinder turbocharged engines of small displacement were putting out in racing 1000 HP a long time ago. The technology transfer never took place. That NOBODY is making a consumer-grade offering vehicle in the $150,000 range with 1200HP on board and that people don't expect this out of the industry, is what can be surprising when you think about it. Now, with Tesla's challenge, the ICE industry is not even mobilizing to meet the challenge and better their product, but immediately folding and adopting electric technology. Except for ICE visionaries like Konigsegg, which work to redefine internal combustion engines.

It is often the case that little things go wrong, or simply not optimally, and a little edge can make the difference. Of course big things can go wrong as well (sorry for Doug). I have seen a great many race prepped performance cars break drivetrain bits under a hard launch, and it is very common to see the halfshafts (actually mosty the u-joints) fail when running tons of power on slicks. But as long as nothing else major was damaged, he should just be able to swap out the parts. As opposed to if the clutch or transmission blew up. @@TeslaPlaidChannel, I was referring to topping off the charge at the track. It looks from the video like the track provides a fuel truck but not a charger station, since I recall you driving elsewhere to top off the charge one day, then driving back to the track to run. That really needs to change if the track wants to still be in business in another 5 years. BTW, I used to pit crew for a fueler. I have no use for IC vehicles. I bought my first electric vehicle in 1989. I drove one with lead-acid batteries to the top of Pikes Peak in 1991 before the road was fully paved and there was a race up the hill for EV's.

FYI at Napierville Dragway Plaid went 5.67 1/8 mile, 8.77 @162.55 in 1/4 mile. Video on KZbin!.... Here is the story! Last month we told you about a Tesla Model S Plaid in Napierville, Quebec that set the new record for the fastest quarter-mile time for the electric sedan at 8.83 seconds and 161mph. The Model S had a stripped out interior for weight savings, as well as SV104 wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear and Michelin PS4 tires on the front. Not content with the blistering fast time, the same Model S Plaid has set a new record this week. At the same track in Napierville the Model S crossed the line in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h). Unlike last time, there is a video of the record run which you can see below. As for what changed that allowed the car to go faster this time the owner, TMC user mulot30th, said there was an additional 60lb weight saving over the previous attempt due to someone else being behind the wheel on the run. Additionally he said there a slight change to the suspension. “Main change is suspension geometry change (slight) which reduce “tire drag” a little bit at least that is what I intended to do with that and have worked,” he said. Interestingly, the top speed at the end of his quarter mile run of 162.55mph is inches away from the electronically limited top speed (when not in Track Mode) of 163mph. As we first told you about earlier this week, Quebec-based Ingenext was able to hack their way past that limiter and reached a top speed of 216mph (347km/h). As for this Model S Plaid, the owner says that while the car does not feel like it is slowing down when crossing the line, he feels there is not much room to improve beyond 8.77s with the current setup. You can check out the record run below. The post Tesla Model S Plaid breaks quarter-mile record again: 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph [Video] appeared first on Drive Tesla.

I think that it's a big difference between an all wheel drive than a rear only drive, the rwd needs to be pushing all the time plus gas engines gets their HP by RPM, EVs give all the HP to the wheels soon as you step on the power plus has the power on all wheels and those electric motors are only limited by the voltage applied they're brushless while gas engines can be easily blown up due to the so many parts

…and this AWD GT-R last month confirmed your points: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5WyioakjMqBmac (See the DRAG race after the roll race)
@miguellopez33922 жыл бұрын
With drag radials and 800HP demon can launch faster than a AWD plaid, the plaid also builds it power slowly to not spin out its tires, so it takes it over 2 seconds to apply the full 1020HP, electric motors are limited by heat and RPMs just like gas engines, if you go full power and full speed to long its going to damage/destroy itself. If electric cars where cooled by liquid nitrogen the plaid could squeeze out 1500HP from its battery to its motors.

EV's saving grace are they're flat out fast. Otherwise, there's range anxiety (although gap is closing), no lovely exhaust note, no gear shifts, and styling is not exactly muscle car for affordable EV's. All that said, there's still plenty to like with the Tesla, but I would still choose the Dodge for an everyday car

@@TeslaPlaidChannel no, I’m not talking about dodge fan boys I’m talking about ev people thinking gas enthusiasts care about electric cars being faster. Dude, no offense but this needs to be said…. Cars are not a toy. Neither is racing. It is a serious sport where people can be killed or seriously injured. You need to focus and stop talking when when you get lined up. The moment before you and/or the person you’re racing against needs to warm up your tires is when you need to stop talking until your car comes back down under greater control, at lower speeds, past the finish line. You endanger yourself, the track staff and even the audience by not paying attention and focusing. You could potentially make a mistake and accidentally kill a kid who wonders on to the track one day. Stop talking, pay attention and focus. Other than that great video

Safety remains paramount for us. Hence all the SFI-rated gear that some viewers call "excessive". And after 1500 Tesla time slip, never once left our lane. Never even came close. Meanwhile, how many ICE cars driven by “experienced” racers have crossed over into OUR lane during a race? THREE: 1) Nitrous Chevy S-10 drag truck: Hit me then totaled into wall. My spit-second decision prevented further disaster. 2) Monte Carlo: Did the “G Body Shuffle” into my lane in Bradenton. Wiped out his oil pan on the curb and and closed the track for hours. 3) Mercury Cougar: Driver had over 50 years of racing experience (he’s 68). None of these 3 drivers were shooting a video during these races (but I was). I’ll put my safety record up against anyone. I’m the only Tesla guy I’ve seen with head-to-toe SFI gear, neck collar and even fire rated shoes. I hold an NHRA Level 6 license to run as fast as 7.50ETs. But most of all, I take safety VERY seriously, and never race on the street like most of the bozos here on KZbin. For those that can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, your advice holds👍. But some of us know what we are doing more than the others 😃
