I saw you guys out there working hard and have to say it feels good to see. Lived here 20+ years and have never seen anyone touch that building. Then having one of my automotive heroes come to save it and make it the VGG shop is like childhood level excitement. If you ever need more hands on deck, my buddy and I are right up the road. Welcome to town and Merry Christmas to you and the family.

As a feeler in a wheelchair, I can tell ya that being welcomed in the front door of a business like all the other regular fellas means a lot. Haveing to go around the side and use a separate entrance just kinda weighs on a guys brain a little bit. So you’re doing a good thing there my friend, thank you. Hope I can come visit someday.
@adamfrbs92596 сағат бұрын
It weighs on a fellas spirit, not brain, I'll say it for ya. Remember you can still do wheelies in a wheelchair, but you have to choose to. That's a metaphor I personally made, I hope you can use it in your life, If that's possible. Don't let anything break ya down. ;-)
@warrenmichael9185 сағат бұрын
Im not in a wheelchair but i can see where a nice inviting front door would make you feel a little better about a place. I can also see where some old buildings just dont have the space or availability to make such a nice front ADA compliant entrance so even if they had to use a side door to make it work, at least they have an option for you as well.

@@warrenmichael918 I'm in a wheelchair and have found that there are a good many stores that are not ADA compliant. Now, most of those are older stores that were built before the law came into effect so I really don't blame them but it's still a drag to not be able to visit quite a few places that I wouldn't have given any thoughts about a 6 inch step. I certainly don't expect a store to spend a ridiculous amount to remedy that only to serve a very very small portion of the populous.

I'm a Mason up in maine, definitely get the damaging vines off the building and maybe repoint and repair the masonry, then waterproof the exterior to stop the moisture from rotting the mortar.

@joecolosi17953 сағат бұрын
I personally, would take and brace up the ceiling in that corner, then use a hammer drill and remove every brick from the corner of the building, all the way back to the edge of the lentil seat. Replace the lentil, (which should be an I-beam, with the inner and outer facade being brick work faces). And hire the local mason to come and re-lay the brickwork.. Don’t patch something that could come loose and hurt someone … It’s in a high traffic area, you don’t know if the original mason used wall anchors or not. And especially that crack that goes straight up on the corner, it is telling you, at some point the weight of the brick being supported by the lentil has already compromised the existing lentil. If you’re gonna do it, do it right the first time.

They used to load the milk trucks from the side door on the cooler box. They didn't need to back to that dock as they could just pull up beside it and get loaded. Looking good, keep at it and you'll get there. Glad to see you save something that no one else saw value in. Kinda your MO in life.

That rusted metal plate at the top of the window frame is called a lentil and is vital to the proper support of the structure. You probably want to build a header beam out of a couple of 2x10's with some plywood sandwiched in between. The windows will be a little smaller but it won't go anywhere.

I Love it! My wife loves it! She doesn't watch VGG with me, but wanted to watch this video of your progress on the new HQ. We've remodeled i dunno...6 or 7 houses ranging from cosmetic stuff to complete tear down and re-fit of a 120 yr old house here in Wheatland, WY. We love the idea, and the building. We'd also like to take a trip back east and help a guy out for a week or so. We've got vision and skills and the time!(I've been recently medically retired and need one more surgery to be mobile again) But once I'm healed up, we'd love to make the trip. I've been a fan since you started making videos in your garage in Minn. ( I think that's where you were) and feel like I know you. It's been awesome watching your channel grow and watching your sons grow with it. SO glad you involve your family. Got some ideas for future projects...how does restoring the world's only 8 person backwards trike sound? I've got it right here on the property. It is the vision of Andy Anderson who played bass guitar for Dr' Hook back in the day. He built it as a tool to raise money for charity. Unfortunately, he's stuck in Britain fighting money and health issues, but he's trying to get back here to do charity runs for fallen firefighters and police. It's a heck of a back story. ANyway, I'll let you get back to work. Take Care, Brother!
