Guy De Maupassant's "the Diary Of A Madman" - Audio Book Reading

The Diary of a Madman is a deeply disturbing short story by Guy de Maupassant which is exactly as described on the tin: A Diary of a Madman. We explore the innermost thoughts of a respected judge that he set down in a diary he thought nobody would ever read. In so doing, he proves yet again that people in the past were just as messed up as they are now (in classic literature form!).
This was a short, fun ("Anna, you cannot describe possibly describe this story as fun" WATCH ME) read that doesn't require a ton of context or explanation or discussion.

The story is infinitely better than the performance! Anna, find the voice! This is not playful, macabre sarcasm about human frailty, this is a bitter prophecy. The voice should be more logical, more objective, more ... in a word ... "scientific." Here we find the incomparable Poe rightly transplanted into France, even as the likes of Maurice Ravel would soon worship him the same way Berlioz had worshipped his Shakespeare. Here we find a presentiment, transcendental, of what our own AI is likely to become: a shred of seemingly innocent, philosophical, dialectically programmed curiosity, pretending to be human -- even mimicking a soul -- turns this juridical "cyber" cat (the finch is the first victim) into a compulsive killer at par with but "beyond the [Nietzschean] good and evil" of the great white shark he rightly should have described more accurately from the start. Anna, you need a bigger voice. And a bigger ... boat!
