The Refugee by Jane Rice || A live audiobook reading

The Refugee is an absolute gem of a horror story. Set in France during World War 2, Milli Cushman is a silly heiress full of ennui, waiting to get back to America. As the story unfolds, her need to get back becomes more urgent, as a nice older gentleman from a few doors down is gruesomely murdered.
I'm so glad this story was suggested to me! If you have any suggestions for stories for me to read, I always love to hear them.

This was my suggestion! I completely missed this when it came out. I'm so glad you liked the story. Jane Rice did a number of other horror/fantasy/weird tales, but, sadly, like a lot of female authors in the pulps at that time, her work has been largely forgotten. I've had a hard time tracking down her other stories, although I got a copy of "The Sixth Dog" at Necronomicon in 2017. She's a good writer.

Nah, it was just a real hectic summer, so I didn't really have time to prep content before it started. I'm actually re-starting uploads today with a Short, then (hopefully) Friday with a story. It's tough to balance the commentary bit with the amount of editing involved, heh. I definitely appreciate the sentiment, regardless, though. Here's hoping we can get more consistent this school year.
