Read aloud together through the final cantos -- Canto 32, Canto 33, and Canto 34 -- of Dante's epic poem The Inferno, Longfellow's translation, including his line-by-line annotations, and classic fine art spanning centuries illustrating the manuscript.
Canto 32 - The final circle. Dante and Virgil stand atop the river Cocytus, frozen solid, with the traitors embedded in the ice.
Canto 33 - We hear the story of Ugolino, traitor to Pisa. Then, we learn that certain people do things that are irredeemable in life, and are then immediately sent to hell, a demon inhabiting their body until it dies.
Canto 34 - We meet Lucifer at last. Dante and Virgil leave Hell, and begin their ascent toward Purgatory.
In this read aloud version of one of the pillars of all literature, we journey with Dante through the punishments of the underworld, as told over 700 years ago. In addition to the audiobook, we'll be including as many of Longfellow's footnotes as possible, plus a few notes by the narrator (Longfellow doesn't always explain who all the namedropped ancient philosophers are). The video features artworks spanning the centuries, from ancient Greek sculpture through modern day video games.
