That is a pretty big hole. Any wooden cover would eventually rot and be an eventual trap to someone or something crossing it and falling through. At least the hero put a log down there so many animals or humans can climb out.

animals sometimes get trapped and perish unfortunately, their bodies nurture the soil which goes back to the ecosystem. It sounds grim but "safety" in nature is not inherently something we should strive for

Don't want to burst your bubble but most "animal rescue" is by people that put the animals in danger in the first place after it blew up on the internet how popular such videos are. So basically animal abuse has became bigger than ever thanks to people needing these good emotions.

The guy who found the dog is a true angel! The dog is so fortunate. I wonder how the dog ended up in that hole. That’s a huge huge hole, so dangerous for anyone who fall into, not to mention a dog or a small cat walking by. Thank you all for coming together to save that poor puppy! ❤👍🙏😘🐶

My guess looking at the collars and being from the south where there's a lot of hunting. That's a typical collar for a hunting dog. She probably got to tracking a deer and fell in. They can get away from their owners pretty easy, but they usually come back to the area where they started. That's why a hunter will leave a piece of clothing so they know to stay there if it gets late and the hunter has to leave. Getting away from the hunter is common falling in a whole obviously is not. But I've seen that same type of collar combination on every hunting dog I've ever known. Most hunters really love their dogs and I'm sure he was very upset and probably went back every day looking for her. I'm glad they found her and I wouldn't be surprised if he made sure the whole was taken care of.
