thankfully I'm 6ft3 240lbs so most guys back off right away lol. Also, my personal opinion, ALWAYS try to make a joke out of it, the chance that the dude will respond in an aggressive way is low. If you were to say something like "wtf are you doing bro, she's my girl fuck off" or get up in his face, chances are, he will be become aggressive unless you are twice the size of him. But regardless of his size, just coming and saying, "hey bro, sorry man but she's with me...don't blame you though she's a looker isn't she" and smile or laugh and put your fist out to pound him or handshake...and simply walk away and ignore anything he says. Or you offer him to come inside the bar/pub and you will hook him up with a girl,(just to distract him/ get him on your side) but he will be too embarrassed to take you up on that offer. If you take this approach, he will say "oh yea man she is, I'm sorry! I didn't know". If he becomes aggressive, then just fucking pop him. But in my experience, acting like a bro is always the best option...you may even make a friend. There's no need to come up and be a dick to a guy hitting on your girl when he never knew she had a boyfriend. Words are powerful, people should use them first instead of testing someone. I've never locked horns with anyone using this technique. either it's this, or that I am a big guy, or a mixture of both. Some guy's need to leave their ego at the door when they go out. Because once they get stabbed, or hit in the face with brass knuckles, they will realized they should have defused the situation when they had the chance to.

That's nice that you live in a soft neighborhood where no one is doing this that's great for you, but yes this is very relevant for somewhere like oh say LAs nightlife. Happens all the time where drunk obnoxious assholes are just looking for problems.
@GeneG0dhand
@GeneG0dhand 11 жыл бұрын
Who the fuck takes their GFs out to neighborhoods with high criminal activity? If you did take someone out during nightlife, then you'd understand that there's security/bouncers getting paid for this type of work. I'd understand living in a neighborhood with high criminal activity and requiring some sort of self-defense measure, but this is just whiteknight bullshit.

The man should have just taken his girlfriend by the hand and promptly marched off with her. What's with having a conversation at 3 am with a stranger outside a nightclub? The longer that man spent explaining to a no one about his girlfriend, increased the chance of the no one having other no one's come to his aid. The man increased the risk of others ganging up on him and therefore also his girlfriend. The methodology is as flawed as the scenario. Never leave your friend to exit a hell hole on their own. Safety in numbers. Sorry.

This is ridiculous for securities sake. I am a Security Officer with a major strip hotel in Vegas and a 30 year Martial Artist who still trains and carries concealed. (But not on the job.) You are asking for this, going to a club or so many bars. The first priority is to avoid a place where you might have to fight over something like this. I realize a confrontation can occur anywhere but you lessen the odds of it happening by avoiding places where you know this kind of shit takes place. We have several bars and there is always fighting there. Add idiots and alcohol and all this machismo bullshit and you have a recipe for sure conflict and maybe someone dying. We had a guy punch another guy years ago on the strip and the guy was essentially dead before he hit the ground. Play it safe and go to a nice quiet restaurant or drink at home. Or you can get ready to defend your girls honor and then so many things can go wrong. I have walked away from so many fights as a citizen...but have mixed it up just as many times as a City Park Ranger and Security Officer. Including cuffing people who don't want to be cuffed. There is a saying in Special Operations and I live by it...All plans remain intact until the first shot is fired. Nuf said....Conflict avoidance is the best measure, so you never have to rely on your skill set.

I live in a safe area of Tokyo but if you're in the inner city, beware. places like Roppongi hills, Kabukicho, and Ueno can be dangerous. Also, don't go to the parks at night, that's when "tough guys" meet and I have had the honor of being thrown by street kids that do Judo and boxing. Any advice for a budding martial artist? I'm almost 19 and I've been looking into Chen style Taijiquan and Xingyiquan.

You're the one thats being ridiculous, telling people that its not safe to go to bars or clubs on the strip and that they should just stay home scared. LOL. I've lived in Las Vegas for the past 6 years and go to the strip almost every weekend. Compared to the shitholes I grew up in LA and Oxnard, the strip is disneyland. I mean yeah, you do get a lot of stupid, sloppy drunks but they're easy to deal with, much easier than the gang members and criminals I had to deal with in LA. In 6 years of going to the strip , I've only seen maybe 4 fights, and they were all drunk idiots who could barely fight. The only serious incident I saw, was the shooting at the Planet Hollywood on Aug 2016 but that wasnt that big of a deal. Most of the clubs, pool parties , lounges etc are very safe and fun and telling people not to come is stupid. The only clubs or events I avoid are the Rap/Hip Hop events because those the gangs and thugs show up, but seriously the lounges and the clubs on the strip are totally safe and I'm actually one of those guys who always gets called paranoid by people. I also have my ccw out here, train in mma and I'm a little bit of a prepper. You're beyond paranoid though. As far as your "special operations" quote LOL, how many shootings have we had on the strip???? There are very few .You act like we have shootings on the strip every week. I dont think being a security guard is for you. You sound traumautized from being a security guard. I think you should just work at the fashion show mall at one of the stores or somewhere , wher you dont have to be so scared all the time LOL.

I am sorry for the late reply. Do you live in Japan now? I train in Traditional Shotokan and Eishin Ryu Iaijutsu. (Japanese Swordsmanship) I am of the mind that if you find a good school and a very competent teacher, any art might serve you well. I much prefer the Traditional Arts and they teach a way of life as opposed to just a fighting system. Many state that the traditional arts are useless. That is entirely up to the practitioner. I know many Karate-ka who would challenge that idea. Karate teaches us an indomitable fighting spirit and to deliver one strike that can end the fight. Lyoto Machida is a 4th Dan in Shotokan and there are many more who fight professionally that have backgrounds in Karate. So many miss the point...the true art is to avoid conflict. But train very hard so as if you ever have to fight. I trained for many years under an 8th Dan. At the time he died, he had 60 years of training and teaching and also being the most Senior Japanese instructor in the Western world.

I've thought about this a lot. I don't hang out at clubs so I wouldn't find myself in this situation as much (if ever), but if it did happen my first action would be to tell my wife "Go to the car right now." Once she's away from the situation there would be no reason for the guy to keep going, but he will. At that point I can deal with it without worrying about her. I like to think I would be able to talk the guy down, but you never know when there's alcohol or drugs involved (that's why I stay away from both). Great vids, keep'em coming!

First mistake in this video is not keeping enough distance between yourself and the other guy that is being aggressive. Should never let him be that close since the first to strike at that distance will generally win it. You must use hands to keep the distance in a non aggressive manner and as soon as that safe perimeter is breached is the time to strike the aggressor immediately.
@Totentanz23

STEJTHEGREATEST - I have a rule for anyone...particularly when they are already aggressive. I have a buffer zone which is the zone in which I could be punched without an additional movement of the feet required. If the extent of that zone is approached I will back away in a non confrontational manner but with confidence to show I am not afraid. If it continues and is breached, I will be the first to strike as soon as it is breached...as soon as there is a target in reach. Once they are in the zone, then the first to strike is likely to win, so you must catch them while entering your world. Thats just my opinion on how to help ensure you are able to defend yourself and your loved ones and not left on the ground getting kicked or stomped.

This was funny. Unfortunately guys that hit on girls like that will usually have their buddies around with them. So not being confrontational in a situation like that and just grabbing your girl and getting out of there would be a better course of action. If your girl is hot then you're better off not taking her to a sausage fest in the first place.

Superb advice and great timing (and judgement) for applying the preemptive strike. This is a clear cut case of opting for a preemptive strike before he could reach for a weapon that could prove to be deadly. If the guy insists on hitting on the girl, after she informed him that she was not interested, followed by the boyfriend telling him the same thing and trying to defuse the situation by talking and he still refused to get the hint and tried instead to reach for a weapon, then he is obviously hellbent on harming someone and a devastating preemptive strike is the only option left.

Never take a girlfriend to a nightclub in the first place. Very common. He drinks too much. She gets bored, starts to look around at other guys. She's dressed way too provocatively. Surprise surprise she gets hit on and the boyfriend now feels he's got to prove himself to her. Very common. Always ends badly. The other guy will be out with his mates and they will get the boyfriend even if he strikes first. Avoid at all costs.

zupinu2000 nothing wrong with Haitians. You just don't want to piss them off because they don't joke around if they've been disrespected. It wasn't meant to be a diss, more if a heads up to those that don't know.

This situation is one of my worst fears that I wouldn't want to happen, but if it did I would want to be ready! I come from a folk style wrestling background so idk how well that would work in a street fight lol! I'll be sure to keep working on your techniques and tips, once again great videos and I'm definitely subscribing!

if someone reaches for their back pocket during an altercation- if you make the first strike against that person would that be considered assault?

monsterstereo I think the point is, would you rather wait until the knife is in your face or make the first move? If he's armed you were justified and more, if he wasn't you could have used his action as a reason for your reaction. Your girlfriend or someone else may be able to back you up in court.

Look careful guys, striking with open hands can save your day. Not only that it makes the opponent closing his eyes more reliably then fist punches and protecting your hands, it also shows everyone around that you are the defending guy.
@nobodyrissole1921

Firstly, the best form of self defence is increasing your body weight. This is because you can just move people out the way and close a door. In contrast, if your light weight you must strike the opponent and you can not move them away from you. This is a problem because it is more illegal and you can end up in trouble with the pigs as well. Therefore, it is a huge defensive advantage to be the heaviest guy in the room.

You have to be very careful with those hits, because the neck and head area are really fragile. I've been in that situation, but waited for his hit, but once my left elbow got it, my natural reaction was a single elbow to the neck right under the early and jaw. The guy was hospitalized, and almost died. I'll say, if you know what you're capable off, just really walk away.

I think if a guy approached me at a club and wouldn't leave me alone, I would roar out to the nearest guy to get the guy away from me, I have honestly never been in a club that didn't have other people both inside and outside... otherwise if nobody is around i'd scream and or claw his eyes if he grabs me.

Great video! I don't think many instructors cover this scenario. I would have thought it would be the boyfriend who would start the fight. Never heard of many instances of some guy who is trying to hit on your girlfriend starting the fight.I recall a time when in a pub over misunderstanding an older gentleman got pretty abusive with my female friends. To my shame I just sat there frozen and able to do anything! If I could have done anything it would have been to try to calm him down and explain.

To be honest, I usually just wrapped my key chain around my fist and the keys on it between my fingers, when walking trough dangerous neighborhoods. Best is to just avoid the risk and try to be far away from trouble, in most cases the attacker will probably have the weapon ready but concealed, as do I when I perceive that there could be trouble. The difference is, I do not know if there is going to be trouble for sure, that advantage goes to the attacker.

It would be pretty difficult to get away with a premptive attack like that here in the UK, they expect you to try hug & kiss them first before being able to defend yourself against physical aggression. lol Been close to acting in this manner a couple of times before though. Have you ever taught any classes over here in the UK before, Nick? As always, great stuff and stay safe!
