The other day I went on Omegle as your typical gringo, then surprised latinos with perfect Spanish! It's always funny to prank people by making them think that I'm Mexican or that I lived in Mexico for awhile. I learned Spanish in high school and it"s been 7 incredible years of mastering the language. Often times people will confuse me to be Mexican due to my accent and use of certain words. It's actually one of the biggest compliments I can get and it's very humbling when a native speaker genuinely thinks that I'm Mexican. Thank you for watching, you're awesome :) If you liked the video please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment telling me your favorite part! New videos every Monday.

It's the same for me when I hear French spoken very well by translators and others who have learned "classroom" or "textbook" French. It still sounds like a foreigner speaking excellent French (usually with hints of an accent or an overly rigid style of speech). Learning to speak in a casual, relaxed manner like a native a whole different thing and given that both French and Spanish are related, I'm sure it's quite similar for Spanish. I suspect Nate had a chance to practice with (or perhaps immerse among) some native speakers and picked up his accent from them.

My problem is that my school started us on spanish around age 6. But the classes only taught what i refer to as "emergency spanish" as in no verbs besides a few basic phrases and a lot of vocab (for emergency use only). We didn't start to get serious with it until high school and i continued classes into college. So i have been "speaking" spanish my whole life so my accent is pretty good but i really struggle with grammar in the moment (if i am practicing talking by myself or writing it is a lot better) and i know almost no slang. So its a weird combo of almost flawless accent and broken spanish. I really have no idea how "fluent" i am because i think whenever people tell me that my spanish is great they are saying great for a gringa and i want to know how good my spanish is overall. These videos inspired me to use omegle to improve my spanish and i built a snowman for some Columbians.

@@SpanishWithNate.. Thank you too. We are all aware that some in the US place stereotypes on the LatinX community, especially the people of Mexico. Your videos are a great example of how similar we all are. And the music is infectious, you mention liking Rancheros, I would also recommend some of the newer Vallenatos of Colombia.
