My mom died a year ago, and she was the BEST cook! One of my greatest regrets is that I didn't learn to make roti from her.....your recipe seems direct and easy to follow so I will give it a try. Thank you so much for sharing. Making it will help me feel closer to her as well as her Guyanese heritage. ❤❤❤❤

All is not lost ...I'm sure you saw her mak makIng it many times. So now try to remember it and along with a recipe that's close to that of your mom try it. You may not succeed the first time...try again. It's what I did for a.m.e of the recipes I wasn't to sure of ..all the best😉

@@rosamundakajessiejulien8994 I’m now seeing your comment. Thank you for the encouragement. I made it for the first time last year, and can honestly say I mastered it the 4th time. It is a LOT of work! 😩 But I’m thankful I finally learned. 🙏🏾💎🇬🇾

This is great ! I am East Indian Guyanese and this is exactly how we make it except we don't use shortening. You can also use a bit of ghee(clarified butter) instead of the shortening. It makes it super soft and buttery, and it's healthier. keep up the great videos!!! 💗

Thank you so very, very much for this wonderful tutorial!!! I just made my very first batch of roti tonight and the family raved about it! I'm Guyanese, but had never bothered to really learn to make roti from my parents as I was growing up. I remember helping my folks make roti, but I never really did the whole process myself, you know. Now that my own kids are 5 and 9, I'm trying to teach them about my heritage and we've been trying out a few Guyanese recipes. Thank you again for posting this. Please, please do continue to make more videos! p.s. I love your natural hair as well. I've been natural since 2004.

We in Malaysia also hv paratha bread, but the technic is much more messy, with oil all over the utensils & hands & more kneading work...when i came across this guyanese recipe, i got so excited to try & eager to find out the taste whether its similar to ours, so that i can enjoy it with less work. Yeah...im super excited now..it came out so good, as what i imagined..tq so much jehan, for showing it so clear. I watched yr video & read yr blog to make sure i got it right (but i cooked it more brown bcoz thats d way we used to have our paratha here )..thanx again, i love yr work

Indo Trinis I think still use ghee in their roti. I heard it taste great though. You can mix the oil with butter. Guyanese don't like their roti falling apart in pieces and I think that's what ghee and butter does, that why most people use oil. I wouldn't use shortening, even though it will make the roti soft.
@karenf1079
@karenf1079 7 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ. Ghee does not make the roti fall apart. However it gives the roti an outstanding flavor. Oil/butter/margarine are typically used for convenience. The texture and thickness of a roti depends on kneading and how much water is used in the dough, which then affects the elasticity
