I recommend that you watch my video on how to treat your yard with a hose end sprayer. Treat your yard every 60 days when it is not freezing weather. This will kill off the vast majority of ants that are in your yard, and it will keep them away, as long as you continue to do the treatments. The Bifen XTS that is shown in the video may seem very expensive, but keep in mind that you mix it 1/3 oz per gallon of water, so it goes a long way. I also recommend that you treat the inside of your house with Temprid FX. Just mix it at 16 milliliters per gallon of water, and apply it wherever you are seeing the ants. You can apply it with a pump-up garden sprayer. Do not apply the product on surfaces where food is prepared or eaten. Just spray it on the ant trails. It may take a few days for the problem to go away. If you keep up with the outside treatment, then you should only need to treat the inside of the house one time. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. Video like how to treat your yard with a hose end sprayer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZrJoIeLasmgppI Temprid FX: www.domyown.com/temprid-fx-insecticide-p-17130.html

Hey Guy, GREAT STUFF. I just noticed that I have termites on my back porch (patio post) because of some water damage I should have taken care of a couple of years back. I exposed the bottom of the post and used a fan to thoroughly dry the area out. Additionally, I added BioAdvanced Termite Killer Granules that you had suggested. But before all this I added the BioAdvanced Termite Killer Granules about 6-months ago around my entire house. I also had termites in the expansion joint beside the post. After exposing and adding the granules, I see no activity. What do you think? Also, I had a big name termite company come out and quote me for termite control/prevention. The guy didn't seem too concerned by the post damage. BTW, huge expense! Question: What do I do about the potential infestation of termites through the bathroom/kitchen/toilets, etc within the house? Thanks!

I'm sorry for the delay in responding. I am on vacation at the moment, and I am on a cruise, so I don't always have internet and often I am doing vacation stuff. My wife and I have not had a vacation in over 13 years, so it was time. I will be home on June 11, so I can answer any additional questions you may have at that time. If you purchased the correct granules and if you passed the perk test, then you should be in good shape and the termites should be gone, if they are subterranean. This includes all areas of the building. Keep in mind that the granules do not work for drywood termites or Formosan termites. You need the granules that have imidacloprid as the active ingredient. A lot of the Home Depot and Lowes stores no longer sell the correct granules, but you can get them from Amazon. I will give you a link to them. If the granules you purchased did not use imidacloprid, then purchase the correct granules and retreat. To do the perk test, just dig a small hole next to the house that is about 4 inches deep, 8 inches long, and just the width of the shovel. Fill the hole with water and watch to see how fast it drains down into the ground. If it seeps into the ground fairly quickly, then the granules should work just fine. However, if it just kind of sits there, then the granules would not be a good choice, and you should consider trenching. If it turns out that you need to trench, then please watch my video on how to do that correctly. Trenching is a lot more work, but it only costs about $100 to do an average size home, and it lasts 5 to 10 years. Most people can trench an entire house in one day, but you can take up to a month to get it done, and you can literally do just 10 feet at a time. Please let me know where you live, so that I can rule out a species that would not be consistent with the granules. My guess is that you are okay with this, but let's make sure. I hope that helps. We live near the coast in southern California. We have 2 side yard fences we just painted with a dark stain this week on just ONE (our) SIDE. One side fence is top of the line redwood about 5 years old. The other is 25 year old cedar. After staining we noticed the termite damage on the old cedar fence. Its about 80 feet long. We're trying to milk as many remaining years as we can from the cedar fence since replacing it will be expensive. Calling DoMyOwn I was told that since we painted the fence you can call the coroner, there is no further treatment. What do you think? Thank you in advance.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Жыл бұрын
That's funny that they told you to call the coroner. Thanks. I needed a good laugh this morning. The truth is that it's never too late to treat any sort of pest problem. It is true that it would have been far better to treat that wood with Bora-Care before you stained it, but there is more than one way to go after termites. How you handle that will depend on the species. You have three different species of termites where you live and they each get treated differently. So, you need to start by determining the species. Figuring out the species is actually pretty easy and I have a video on how to do that. I will provide you with a link below. After watching this video, you should be able to identify the species. Just get back to me after you watch it and let me know what you found out. At that point, I can tell you exactly what you need to do. Is Termidor FOAM better then the Spray? I used to spray twice in the walls in the spring and i wasvgood for years in Central Florida
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Жыл бұрын
It is not a question of the foam being better. The foam just works differently. We use it to get into cracks and crevices or to inject it into holes that we drill into galleries or tunnels, because it expands to several times its size, and it will get into places that liquids cannot reach. The bottom line is that you cannot effectively treat inside a piece of wood with a liquid or dust, and that is the reason we use the foam. It is the only way to do an effective spot treatment. Please let me know if you would like the procedure for how to correctly spot treat for termites. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

what about motor oil and diesel ? It soaks into the wood and posts have been in the ground for ninety years,
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 9 ай бұрын
That may work for posts, but today most of those things are already treated at the factory and are rated for ground contact. I don't suppose it could hurt, but I have found that my fence posts usually rot just at ground level and then they fail. No termites or anything. I now set them in concrete that is at ground level, so the posts do not contact the ground at the surface. This allows water to run off and not sit on the posts. So, I solved that problem. My fence posts are never attacked by any wood destroying pests though. So, I think the wood that is rated for ground contact works pretty well. Treating wood yourself with motor oil or diesel may work too. I have never tried it. Be well my friend.

@GuysPestSolutions Does the Temprid FX (indoor) treatment work for Indoor small beige ants (similar to or are sugar ants)? Currently my Husband uses a granular pesticide with a broadcast spreader on mowed St. Augustine grass & then waters it in. For the inside, I use Terro Ant liquid, which currently works in S. Florida. Thanks!
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Жыл бұрын
Yes. If you spray Temprid FX, mixed at 16 ml per gallon of water, you can spray it on ant trails. That will end the problem inside. If you are still getting ants inside, then the outside treatment isn't working. Please try using my method for treating the yard every 60 days and see what happens. @@GuysPestSolutions I scouted the outside, but no ants! I see their inside trail & it diverts to a corner of the bathroom adjacent to the outside wall, BUT they are not outside.....they go into the upper corner between the bathtub tile & top of wall. Could they be under the house foundation?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Жыл бұрын
Ants can be hard to find outside. They can be under the house, but there are probably thousands of them that need to eat. If they are not eating your food, then they are going outside to eat. If you treat the yard, then you will kill their food source and they will starve to death. Also, they will die if they go on the lawn. So, treat the lawn. Give it a try. I think you will like the results. Use the Temprid FX inside too. This combination will work great. Be well my friend.

Need advice for not harming my beehive. Also, Thank you so much for the great information. I keep a couple bee hives in my yard and don't want to harm them with all the various treatments discussed in your many videos. Can you give some tips for us bee keepers?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 10 ай бұрын
Actually, you probably know a lot more about bees than I do. I can tell you that pesticides do not discriminate against bugs. So, the pesticides will kill bees. However, the pesticides will only kill bees if they land on the treated surfaces. Therefore, I recommend that you pay attention to where the bees are landing. Bees do not pollinate everything, so it is safe to apply pesticides in areas with a bees do not land. For example, grass is pollinated by the wind. So, if you mow your lawn before treatment, which is always a good idea, then it is probably unlikely that the bees are going to land on the lawn. They are probably not going to land on your concrete, the side of your house, and that sort of thing. Naturally, you would not go into want to spray any of them with this stuff, but if you were careful, you should be able to do a fairly effective treatment without harming any of them. So, I would observe their behavior and just avoid treating any areas where you see them landing. Also, I would not treat too closely to the hives themselves. I think it is possible to treat without harming the hives, but you need to be careful. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

@GuysPestSolutions

Keep in mind that there are two kinds of stations. They are monitoring stations and bait stations. Monitoring stations are used to notify you if termites are in the area. Bait stations are only used to treat an active infestation and should not be placed in the ground unless you know exactly where the termites are located. So, when a monitoring station goes off, we install a bait station right next to it. The reason for this is because bait stations contain cardboard and cardboard does not last long underground. The monitoring stations contain wood that lasts a lot longer. I will give you links to my videos on how to make both monitoring stations and bait stations. Hey Gary I have been seeing centipedes in my basement red ones more frequently.. What do u use to get rid of them?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Жыл бұрын
Centipedes are coming in from the outside of your house, so the first thing you need to do is treat your yard. These guys love water, so make sure you do not have standing water or wet areas on your property. Clean up the yard by raking leaves and removing other debris that centipedes will find appealing. Next, you need to apply a pesticide on your entire yard and up the side of the building about 36 inches. This treatment should be done every 60 to 90 days, but it does not need to be done in freezing weather. I have a video on how to do that and I will give you a link to it. Now that your yard is treated, you need to get rid of the ones inside the house. Apply Talstar P on baseboards where you are seeing activity. In the basement, apply it where the floor meets the wall. This can be applied with a pump-up garden sprayer. Next, apply D-Fense dust under baseboards and in cracks and crevices wherever you see activity. You should also apply it around pipe penetrations under sinks and other plumbing fixtures. Finally, place glue boards in areas where you have activity to monitor the progress. Just place the glue boards up against the wall where you are seeing activity. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. Can you use the growth regulator and bait together?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 4 ай бұрын
The bait inside the Spectracide Termite Stakes actually is an insect growth regulator. The problem with all of the bait stations I have ever seen is that they all use an IGR. All that does is prevent the termites from breeding, and it doesn't actually kill them. A termite worker can live up to 2 years, so using an IGR can take that long to kill off a colony. The Spectracide Termite Stakes do not contain much bait, so you would need a lot of them to get the job done. So, I don't usually recommend baiting for an active infestation, and if you are going to bait, then Spectracide Termite Stakes would not be the way to go. There are way better baiting systems available. If you have an active infestation, then I suggest termite granules or trenching. For the granules to work you need to have dirt around most of the house and that dirt needs to be porous enough to allow water to seep into the ground fairly quickly. To find out if the dirt around your house is porous enough, just dig a small hole next to the house that is about 4 inches deep, 8 inches long, and just the width of the shovel. Fill the hole with water and watch to see how fast it drains down into the ground. If it seeps into the ground fairly quickly, then the granules should work just fine. However, if it just kind of sits there, then the granules would not be a good choice, and you should consider trenching, if you have an active infestation. If it turns out that you need to trench, then please watch my video on how to do that correctly. Trenching is a lot more work, but it only costs about $100 to do an average size home, and it lasts 5 to 10 years. I use both the granules and the monitoring stations. I will give you a link to my video on how to make them for under 50 cents each. I put them around my entire house for less than $25. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. Will termites travel up metal mobile home jack stands from the ground and up into the wooden mobile home??? I was told they really don’t like making “tubes” up steel surfaces.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 4 ай бұрын
Termites would probably prefer a different route than metal surfaces, but that does not mean they will not build mud tubes up steel jack stands. If they are close by, and there is no easier route to the food source, then I would not rule out that they will build a mud tube up a jack stand. So, if you do not have an existing infestation, then I would recommend some sort of preventive measures. Termite granules are often a good choice. For the granules to work you need to have ground that is porous enough to allow water to seep into the ground fairly quickly. To find out if the dirt around your home is porous enough, just dig a small hole next to one of the jack stands that is about 4 inches deep, 8 inches long, and just the width of the shovel. Most people can trench an entire house in one day, but you can take up to a month to get it done, and you can literally do just 10 feet at a time. For a mobile home, you need to apply the granules around each pier/jack stand. If you cannot access all of them, then I can explain alternatives. Make sure that you buy the correct granules. You need the ones that have imidacloprid as the active ingredient. A lot of the Home Depot and Lowes stores no longer sell the correct granules, but you can get them from Amazon. I have several boxes of Spectracide Terminate and i plan on deploying both boxes in several areas i believe has termites. Can i use other ways to help my chances of being termite free along with the Spectracide? I was thinking Boric Acid (Borax) in and around the perimeter of the foundation of my house? If not Borax, what else would you suggest? Thanks, any help is appreciated.

I'm sorry for the delay. I had to be away for the last 3 days and I was not able to answer any questions. As you can see from the video. The Spectrcide Termite Stakes do not work, so it's pretty much a waste of time installing them. Please tell me where you live and if you have an active infestation. Also, please tell me if you are seeing mud tubes and where you are seeing them. If you are seeing termite damage or other signs of termites, then please tell me what you are seeing. I am back now, but I have about 300 questions waiting to be answered. So, please allow a couple of days while I get all the questions answered. Don't worry. Most species of termites are slow eaters, so you most likely have some time to sort this out. I will work with you until you have it resolved. Be well my friend.

HELP!!! My front yard (Bermuda) is infested with Burrowing Crickets (The Tawny Cricket type). So far... 1. I have put down soapy water with bleach, on the ground around, and in, the holes. This drove the adults to to surface. I killed them with my gloved hands. 2. But... How do I get rid of the nymphs and eggs? 3. What inexpensive insecticide can I use? I would be deeply appreciative for your response. Tom in Dallas

Nice to hear from you. Snakes are always a challenge. Before you get rid of them though, make sure that you have a type of snake it is venomous. Non-venomous snakes can actually be a good thing. You see, one of the reasons they may be coming into your yard is that you have a food supply there. By that I mean you may have mice, rats, frogs, or other small critters that the snakes want to feed on. While the frogs may not be so bad, you certainly don't want the mice and rats running around. So, the snakes can help you out by getting rid of some of these pests. Now, if you are thinking, “Yeah, but these things really freak me out,” then you are not alone. Personally, I cannot stand these things. Nevertheless, if they are non-venomous, I summon up my courage and I leave them alone. That being said, if you want to get rid of them, then the very first thing that you need to do is make sure that you remove any food supply that exists in your yard. That means you need to remove any food that may attract critters like rats and mice. Make sure that all trash cans are tightly sealed and do not leave any food out for dogs and cats. Always feed your pets indoors. You may also be offering them a food supply without realizing it. For example, if you have any standing water laying around the yard, like a small pond where you keep koi fish or something, then those areas can also breed things like frogs. Finally, you can break the food chain. If you ever watched The Lion King, then you've heard about the circle of life. Big critters eat little critters and that includes bugs. So, in order to break the food chain, a good place to start is by getting rid of the bugs. You can treat your lawn every couple of months with Bifen XTS. I will give you a link to my video on how to treat your yard with a hose end sprayer. Just treat up to the tree line and spray the trees as well. This is going to kill all the bugs on your lawn, and it has a residual of around 60 days. It actually does not last 60 days, but it takes a while before the bugs can get reestablished. If there are no bugs, then no food supply for small critters and small snakes as well. If you have no bugs and no small critters, then no food for the snakes. It takes a while for this to be effective, but the snakes will eventually realize that your property is not a good hunting ground, and they will probably hunt elsewhere. That doesn't mean that one will not occasionally come on the property, but it will reduce the likelihood over time. Video on how to treat your yard with a garden sprayer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZrJoIeLasmgppI Bifen XTS: www.domyown.com/bifen-xts-p-1236.html Garden hose sprayer: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UER1S64/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Snakes also like to find hiding places, so make sure that you do not offer them any. This doesn't just mean places they can go under, like firewood, turned over trash cans, piles of leaves, and so forth, but also they like to blend in with the environment. That is why it is common to find them in a garden. They didn't go in your garden necessarily to eat, but to blend in with the environment. Of course, a garden could offer them a food supply if other critters are eating some of those vegetables that you planted. At night they like to hide in places that are particularly dark. Cover is a snake's best friend. They do not like you anymore than you like them and so you will often find them in tall grass where they are not easily seen. So, be sure to keep your lawn mowed. Finally, make sure that you don't have any ditches or holes in the ground that they can get into easily. In other words, do not allow the snakes any place where they can seek cover. So yes, you should rake up all the leaves. If these prevention methods fail, then you need to start bringing out the big guns. Probably the most effective way to keep snakes out of your yard is to exclude them by installing snake proof fencing. You can purchase these products on Amazon and I will give you a link to just one such product as an example. Feel free to look around Amazon or other suppliers to find the fencing that would be best suited for your property and needs. This type of fencing makes it difficult for snakes to go under or climb over them. Snake proof fencing: www.amazon.com/MTB-Black-Coated-Hardware-Cloth/dp/B07ZPWRMMQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=GW5G5RUFTUF6&keywords=snake%2Bfence%2Bbarrier%2B1%2F4&qid=1681307868&s=lawn-garden&sprefix=snake%2B%2Clawngarden%2C136&sr=1-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc&th=1 You can also try some snake repellents. There are any number of them on the market. They typically use environmentally friendly materials that irritate the snakes so that they don't come around. You can experiment with different products to see what works best for you, but I will give you a link to just one of them. Snake repellent: www.domyown.com/snake-out-snake-repellent-p-1096.html There are also snake traps available, but I am reluctant to use them because of the possibility of killing other critters that you may not be interested in getting rid of. So, if you're going to use traps, then try to stick with the ones that are designed to catch snakes alive. I will give you a link to just one of these types of traps. Snake trap: www.amazon.com/Amazing-Humane-Snake-Trap-Small/dp/B0BB11VY49/ref=sr_1_5?crid=Z4Y8Q6WY2R8Z&keywords=snake+trap&qid=1683646779&s=lawn-garden&sprefix=snake+trap%2Clawngarden%2C183&sr=1-5 I hope that helps. Thank you so much for reaching out to me. I'm so sorry that you are having this problem, but I think I can help you out. The first thing I would like you to do is to calm down and relax. The truth is that you only have one species of termites in Tennessee that is of any serious concern. That particular species happens to be very slow eaters, and it takes them a long time to do significant damage. So, this is not quite as bad as you may imagine it to be. It would have been a good idea to let them go on eating that box because, if you take their food supply away, then they are simply going to find another one, which is most likely going to be your house. You would have been better off just letting the box stay where it was. Also, we could have turned that box into a bait station that would help kill off the termites. No matter though, because this species is very easy to treat. The important thing to understand about subterranean termites is that they do not colonize in your home. They always colonize in the ground. Your house just happens to be their favorite restaurant. So, they must return home to the colony fairly often to feed the other termites and to obtain the moisture they need to survive. Therefore, all you need to do to treat them is to treat the perimeter of your house on the outside. The only exception to this would be if you have mud tubes in direct contact with the ground in the crawl space. So, someone needs to go under there and have a look. If there are no mud tubes in contact with the ground under the house, then this is a very easy problem to solve. You may be able to do this with termite granules. The granules cost about $50, and it takes about an hour to apply them. Make sure that you buy the correct granules. You need the ones that have imidacloprid as the active ingredient. A lot of the Home Depot and Lowes stores no longer sell the correct granules, but you can get them from Amazon. I will give you a link to them. If you use the granules, keep in mind that you should apply them every year to maintain protection against termites. That's what I do with my house. Please get back to me if you have mud tubes under the house that are in direct contact with the ground, and I will explain how to do the treatment. If the crawl space has a dirt floor, then you need to cover it with polyethene plastic and you need to seal it to the foundation. This will prevent termites from starting a colony under the house. So, if there are no mud tubes under the house, you can solve this problem yourself for under $100. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. Can you tell me what I can do with a Tungus penetrans aka(sand fleas) home infestation? A rodent brought them in and infested my beds and couch and I happen to be one of the people they love.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Жыл бұрын
To rid your home of sand fleas, the first thing you need to do is to vacuum all the upholstered furniture and pet bedding, paying particular attention two places where fleas can hide, like behind cushions. Next, vacuum the floor throughout the house. If you have a vacuum with a disposable bag, then discard the bag outside in the trash. If you have a vacuum with a reusable canister, empty it outside in the trash and then wash it out with the garden hose before bringing it back in the house. Wash all bed linens and pet bedding in your washing machine and dry on high heat. Next, spray a pesticide that is labeled for fleas, on all the floors and on areas of upholstered furniture that does not come in contact with people or pets. To treat floors, hold the can at arm’s length and make sweeping motions across the floor to cover all surfaces. For upholstered furniture, you should spray under the cushions and then any folds that there are. The product that I like best is called PT Ultracide. I will give you a link for it. Fleas can be hard to kill, so you may need to do this treatment every two weeks until the problem is solved. If you have pets, then you should treat them as recommended by your vet. The reason fleas got into the house in the first place is because they are outside. If you have a flea problem outside, then there is a good chance you will end up with a flea problem inside. Even if you don't have pets, the fleas will still jump on you when you are outside, and so you can carry them in. Therefore, you need to treat the outside as well. I do this with a hose end sprayer. I will give you a link to my video on how to do that. I find that treating the yard every 60 days seems to do the trick. I hope that helps. Be well Marilyn. Guy in fact is it any DIY carpenter ant monitoring station. I treated house with Bifen XTS and 3 month was enough and now just in a bit more then 2 month I got another Spectracide stick popped up. And I made Termite monitoring stations per you "recepie". But just to be sure if I keep Carpenter ants under control (going to treat every 2 months now, especially as it gets warmer) but will be nervous if that will be enough in summer. I don't want to buy Spectracide any more (too expensive and seems that there weren't termites, which caused them to pop up). May be can do with carton inside instead of cellulose as for termites? Thanks
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 4 ай бұрын
The reason the ants eat the bait in the Spectracide Termite Stakes is because it is a bait and that attracts ants. The monitoring stations use wood and ants do not eat wood, so only termites will trigger them. Carpenter ants do not eat wood either. They only tunnel through it. The stations do not contain enough wood to interest carpenter ants, so it is unlikely that they will trigger one of the stations. Still, it is always best to pull up a station if it goes off to make sure that it didn't just malfunction. Sometimes the stick in not in tight enough and it may slip out of place giving you a false indication. If there are termites in the station, then put it back in the ground and then install a bait station next to it. It is a good idea to put a couple of live termites in the new bait station to kind of let the termites know there is a nice meal there. I don't use cardboard in monitoring stations because it does not hold up well. Termites do eat cardboard though and that is why I use it to make homemade bait stations. Bait stations are not in the ground that long, so cardboard is okay and it absorbs the pesticide way better than wood. I have a video on how to make bait stations as well, but they should only be used to treat termites after a monitoring station goes off. The Bifen XTS should prevent carpenter ants from attacking your home if you use it every 90 days. However, the last 30 days of that 90 day period of time is somewhat questionable for me. They claim it's good for 90 days, but I don't think the last 30 days works as good as the first 30 days. So, I do it every 60 days. It's very fast to do with a hose end sprayer and Bifen XTS is great for that. So, I don't take chances. The manufacturer says 90 days but I suggest 60 days. The period of effectiveness is actually going to depend upon factors such as weather conditions, which is an unknown. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. A lot of people confuse drain flies with fruit flies because they look very similar to the naked eye. So, I am going to talk about both of them, because the treatment is very similar. As the name implies, fruit flies like to hang out on fruits and vegetables and they like to breed in moist, decaying matter. Obviously, if you see these flies around your fruits and vegetables, then they are most likely fruit flies, but you can also get them in your sink drains as well. I will talk about that in just a bit. The best way to prevent fruit flies is not to eat fruit or vegetables, and never have that stuff in the house. While that is a solution that your kids are going to love, it may not be one that you get terribly excited about. So, short of banishing all fresh fruits and vegetables from the house, a more reasonable option would be to make sure that you put fruits and vegetables in sealed containers. If you open one of those containers to find fruit flies, then it is a good idea to remove those items from the container, place them in a sealed bag, and throw them in the trash. I don't think that any of this is rocket science, but what if these guys get into your trash, or worse yet, your drains. Obviously, if you see these little flies in or around your trash can, you should remove the trash and wash the trash can, but what about the drains? Here is where the behavior of fruit flies and drain fly becomes very similar. Both species will take up residence in your drains and become a real nuisance. There are all sorts of solutions that you see on the Internet that include everything from putting ice down the drain to pouring vinegar down the drain. Personally, I do not think these things are particularly helpful. I have no idea how you would even get ice down your drain anyway, given that there is usually a plug in a lot of the drains, that is not easily removed. Therefore, I have a much simpler solution. Get a can of Raid Ant and Roach Killer. This is a wonderful product that can treat a variety of pests. I always tell people that the only thing it is not good for are ants and roaches. You never want to use this on ants and roaches, but that's a discussion for another time. As it happens, this is a great product to eliminate drain flies and fruit flies. Just simply spray all the drains in the entire house with this stuff before you go to bed and let it work overnight. You should spray it into the drain for about 3 seconds. In the morning your drain flies will all be dead. It's pretty much that simple. Now, if spraying any pesticides down the drain is too controversial for you, I'm about to get even more controversial. You see, it is also possible for drain and fruit flies to take up residence in your toilet. If they are under your toilet, where it meets the floor, then you can just spray the Raid into the space between the floor and the toilet. However, it is also possible that these guys are going to find their way into the inner workings of the toilet itself. There are water channels inside the bowl that allow the water to pass through the sides of the bowl when you flush the toilet. I have seen cases where the flies actually got into these channels and people could not figure out where they were coming from. So, if you have flies like this in the bathroom, and you already treated the sink and shower drains, but they are still coming, then they are probably in the toilet. Treating this is pretty easy, but it is going to be somewhat controversial. If you remove the lid on the toilet, you will see where the water level is on the tank. Most of the time, there is some buildup right around the water line so you will know where that is when you empty the tank. However, if you do not see a natural line there, then make a mark about 1/4 of an inch above the water with a magic marker or sharpie. Next, shut the valve off that supplies water to the toilet tank and then flush the toilet. Hold the flush handle down until the tank is drained completely. There will still be a little bit of water in the bottom of the tank, but that's okay. Get a gallon jug or bucket, so you know what a gallon looks like. Fill that container to the one-gallon mark and pour it into the toilet tank. Continue to do this until the tank is filled to the water line. By counting the number of times you do this, you will now know how many gallons the tank holds. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy any brand of concentrated pesticide. You do not want the premixed, ready to use kind. You want the kind that you have to mix with water. Read the label and determine the maximum allowable dose per gallon. For example, if you use Ortho Home Defense, it gets mixed at 1.5 oz per gallon. Just add the recommended amount for each gallon that the toilet tank holds. Mix it a little with a paint mixing stick. Flush the toilet, holding the handle down until the tank is empty. Let it sit overnight, then open up the fill valve again, and flush the toilet two or three times to clear out all the pesticide. That will kill any flies that are in the toilet. That’s all there is to it. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.
