@vitocock_yt7 ай бұрын
Making props float is not that hard. When you compile a prop with physics, the QC file (the code that tells how a model should work) asks you for the prop's mass. For example: "$mass 40" means the prop has a mass of 40 kg or 88.18 lb. So, in the end, half of the work is already done by the 3D artist who made that prop.

@@Meetric1 no wayy multicolor removed??! other than the prop interaction multi colored particles was by far the coolest. i think you should add a rainbow/multicolor option as an experimental feature on the side which automatically disables other incompatible features if enabled just purely for fun and testing but ultimately the decision is up to you of course!
@Meetric17 ай бұрын
The issue with multicolor is you need absorption code which adequately combines and absorbs colors, and eventually you'd need code which can mix those colors together, which is a notoriously difficult problem. The particle engine also only supports 1 fluid type per simulation (meaning you cant have water and slime interacting together). Having multiple colors kind of goes against that idea I feel like its kind of a waste of time to add and support multi-color. I think I should instead focus on other more fun and important features before release.

This almost reminds me of a scrapped feature from the HL2 beta that had maps adjusting water levels and even terrain in real time. Obviously in the early 2000's something like this would've have been way scaled back or just used some coding magic for optimizing but this is almost 1 for 1 for what they would have loved to have achieved. I was blown away when you threw the box into the stairs and thousands of droplets just scattered all around you. A feature like this could legitimately add some amazing atmosphere to environments. A small broken water pipe just spilling out from the ceiling above would be so cool. Filling up buckets to add weight ect. It could have legitimate gameplay purposes too. Bravo on this one. I remember messing around with a Nuke mod packs back in the late 2000's in Gmod and thinking that was the coolest thing i'd ever seen as it blew away all the props on top of doing burning damage to wood props. Think you just topped it with this. I'd love to see more demos of this with thinner props with gaps in them. Can't imagine it'd be possible on the older props but finding stuff for these particles to actually try and go through would be insane. Sorry for the long winded post but i sincerly hope you keep at it.I feel theres more you could tune with this, perhaps a way to have the droplets eventually fade out (evaporate) to give you back more particles before hitting that 100k limit. Stellar work!

Wonder if an octree-like system could be possible for GWater3. basically after a certain depth is reached (probably scaled off of viscosity), the deeper the water, the lower the resolution of the simulation becomes. I came up with a great idea for the Water 2 plugin: adding a floating water effect with props in gwater2.
@MrHeliMan7 ай бұрын
Finally we're getting to the foam! IMO it needs to be way more prominent and way easier to generate. Does it even appear once you spawn the liquid? Once you filled the room with water and threw stuff in it, even at high speeds it wouldn't make any foam, which I think needs changing. And also rather than big splashes, I feel like foam should be more subtle. Small enough to show the shape of the waves and formation of all sorts of motion in the water, but at the same time, it shouldn't really be see-through at all. One last thing, can you please make a video where you make different sizes waterfalls? Just like taking a big hill / rock map, where there is a flat side over which a lot of water will be falling down. Like natural ones. Trying to make it bigger and bigger. The foam should really shine there and I would love it! Other than that that, your water now finally looks like water. I think you might have changed the reflections or something, but whatever it is, it finally looks like real water. Also the color isn't as blue as it used to be. I really didn't like how your water was blue. That was just too unrealistic, but here it works really well!. I think that if you can upgrade the foam, that would be great and then the last step would be just somehow magically generate water sounds based off the movements. Which I don't even know whether is possible in real time. Even if you don't do it that sophisticated, adding sounds to it will sell the thing completely. After that I'd just wish for more and more optimization or just being able to spawn more particles. No need for anything else... Great job dude, what a massive difference from when you started with this project. You're really skilled and Valve should finally freakin' notice. I sent an email to Gaben about you a while back, but never got an answer. Great job!
@Meetric17 ай бұрын
1. I'm still tweaking the diffuse particle parameters, hopefully the big splashes will have more prominent bubble creation 2. Yes, I did change the reflection code and tweaked the color. I felt it didn't need to be as blue because of the improved visuals 3. As for sound, I probably can do calculations based on the number and speed of diffuse particles, though I haven't thought too far into it quite yet. 4. You can spawn more particles by changing the particle limit in the menu, but I can't run it very well so it hasn't been showcased. (I'm currently running on a GTX 970 which is nearly a 10 year old GPU)

Now I've got a proper desktop with rtx 3090 made for running VR, so I wanna try how many particles it could handle. I should download Gmod again and buy your mod for it. It could also be fun in VR, if any of the Gmod VR mods are any good. Still I'm guessing I won't get to much higher numbers with decent fps. I'll try to find out. And ye, the water behaved like water for a while now, now it finally looks like water too. I can't wait for the dynamic water sounds... Don't think I've ever seen that. Gwater 2 is so good at this point, that it would deserve to be used some kind of a proper game. Tho I guess it would also need to be able to have stuff floating in it and such... Also, you should take a video in one of the oversized maps... Was it toy maps or something? If that's still a thing... Just make yourself a giant, have the map giant and you'll have amazing realistic water in a giant sink xD Unless you can change the particle size and I missed it...
