Hi. Does the oil filler plug have a thread on it? I have one of these compressors but it has no plug and I can’t find a replacement online. I’m considering making a replacement but the compressor looks like it has a plain bore. Thanks
@gwenyngruffydd3 жыл бұрын
Hi from memory its a plain boar but I cant remember 100% best to drop the manufacturer an email to confirm.

@@gwenyngruffydd Thanks. I tried contacting the manufacturer but the have gone through a few owners and are now owned by an Indian company and I have reached a dead end.

That would be great if you could. Could you also look if it has a breather hole? I did make a one on a lathe but it was tight to go in and has now disappeared. I’m not sure if it has shot out as I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks again

Hi, I’m experimenting with linseed oil and a specific decking oil that’s designed for cedar that apparently is non toxic once dry!

It used to be called cedar treat 22 company called rye oil sells it. But I’m not in a position to recommend it yet.

I see by coincidence Kamon Reynolds is preparing to wax dip his hives kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZSymKZ8paekp5Y which I've seen done in North America whereas in the UK we generally paint. Interesting you use oil rather than paint and the compressor looks to be a smart tool for the job. What oil do you use considering the chemicals in many commercially available wood oils ?
@gwenyngruffydd4 жыл бұрын
Yes I like the idea of wax dipping too. I know sone beefarmers that dip with beeswax but you need a lot of wax! I’m trying to treat some of my hives with a clear treatment. Very hard to find a clear paint. Varnished a lot of hives last year and they look terrible after 1 winter. Been experimenting with linseed oil and a decking oil designed for cedar. Apparently non toxic once dry. I like that oil is absorbed by the wood where paint sticks to the surface and tends to peel off. There will be a video going up about it all 😊

@@gwenyngruffydd Thanks. Anything bee friendly; efficient to apply & cost effective is interesting. With the wax I understand once the initial outlay is made to fill up a suitable vessel, the incremental cost is reasonable (would be interesting to know if £ 100 spent on wax rather than say a compressor was sufficient - might not be too far off)..... of course you'd still need gas to melt the wax and a tank for the work whereas a compressor can do several things and wax only is worth while on a large number of boxes. Looking forward to your follow up video.
